Great place in Buena Vista

We were looking for a place in Buena Vista and the only place that had a vacancy was snowy peaks. After reading the old reviews, which were mostly negative, we decided to brave it anyway. What a surprise, new owners have taken over. Everything is clean, the laundry room is new and the internet is good. We were escorted to our site, then the young man helped position our motorhome in the most advantageous spot and even offered to help us set up. We spent a couple of days and every time someone moved out, their gravel space was groomed with a rake. Some of the spots are buddy spots(next to each other) but your entry doors are on opposite sides, so you still have some privacy. All of the people who worked there were friendly and seemed to be happy to work there. We were there two nights and the park had live music one night and a pancake breakfast the next day. Would I like to spend two nights there again? Nope, I hope we could spend a week there.

Could be better, but it's not

FYI I was a workamper at Snowy Peaks for 4mon. When we first pulled up to the park I was a little disappointed. It wasn't what I expected. The clubhouse/office was rundown with a front window that looked like it had been broken for years. Most sites are narrow & you have views of the junkyard to the south, the grubby storage area, or trashy mobile homes to the north or your neighbors front door,  as many sites face each other. Lots of year round campers. Many are very nice people & have nice campers, but lots have shabby campers. Several longterm residents should be kicked out, but are allowed to stay. We had one person steal packages, break into vehicles, go into people's sites & tents when they weren't there. I personally took many complaints about this person. We had another who liked to yell & threatened a family one night. The police have been in the park on numerous occasions. The wi-fi is spotty at best. People who have stayed at the park multiple times for several years said this is the first-time it hasn't worked. They also said they won't be returning, as they weren't able to get any work done. Just like everything else the manager did nothing(he live out of state & was never there) The laundry room smells like sewer. The washers don't wash your clothes & only one dryer works. We went to the laundromat to wash our clothes. The sewer in the 30's has backed up on several occasions so the park often smells like sewer. We had electrical issues at several posts. Instead of hiring a real electrician to fix it they had the workampers do it. They do have a loose dog problem. I personally helped breakup a dog fight. My husband & I also took a dog to the local shelter(the campground is on a busy hwy). When we told the manager he told us not to do that again. Turns out he had been watching the dog run around the park for 1 1/2hrs & did nothing about it. This was after the dogfight. The second time we caught a dog running loose & I took it to the shelter. The owners came & thanked me, because there dog was safe. They still have dogs that run loose from the junkyard nextdoor. I know the "manager" or owners(none of which live in the state) will say I'm a disgruntled ex-employee, which I am, but everything I've stated above is factual. It fact what I've stated above is just the tip of the iceberg. I loved my job. I met some wonderful people while working at the park & I truly hope I made there stay better. I will say we are now staying at a much nicer campground just down the road. The new owners of Snowy Peaks should come visit it, to get ideas on how a nice campground runs & looks.

Terrible Experience

The staff ruined a nice weekend with my parents. If you enjoy crotchety old men coming into your campsite at 9am yelling at you then this is the place for you!

My parents had booked an RV site with a tent. I checked in as the tent. This place has rules& fines for everything and they go over the entire page with you at checkin. I was told specifically by two women in the office at checkin that the rule for nothing on the grass did not apply to my tent and they charged me$20 for it. Put up my tent that evening next to my parents RV and went to sleep. Next morning we are enjoying our breakfast and time together and suddenly this guy in a golf cart shows up ready to fight. He approached us aggressively and immediately started demanding I take my tent off the grass. Of course my reaction escalated quickly bc of how I was approached. I told him that his office staff had told me specifically that my tent was allowed on the grass and I had paid to have it there. I told him I would move my tent but wanted a refund. Nope. No refunds. Get your tent off the grass or I’m kicking you out. When I continued to explain what I had been told by his office staff(who ended up being his wife) he looks at my dad and says“you better shut her up”. The brazen rudeness of this guy was unreal! My dad ended up going to the office with him where the woman in the office admitted her mistake and miscommunication. They told me I was not allowed on the grass and could instead put my tent on their gravel driveway only. I ended up just car camping that night bc I’m not going to sleep on straight up gravel.

His behavior really put a damper on our day. If your version of customer service is to approach your guests in a fighting stiff arm manner you should be sweeping the floors& not interacting with customers. He apologized the next day which I appreciated but it still did not make up for the fact that he walked into our family breakfast and ruined it.

There are many great places to stay in Colorado& this is not one of them. My 8& 10 year old said to me on the drive back to Denver“we didn’t like that campsite. It felt dirty& gross”. So that is the honest opinion of kids and they are right. The view of the mountains is lovely but the actual campsite, bathrooms, and grounds were not well maintained and the playground is falling apart. The grass however is beautiful, just don’t put anything on it!!!!
