Beautiful Sites But Prepare for Wind
This area is beautiful and very easy to get to but some of the sites with the best views you will be dealing with lots of wind. We drove a Subaru Forester and had no issues. Arrived after a hike on Saturday and stayed the night, left early Sunday. There are plenty of sites along the road and in the area but it does get crowded even when it's colder at night. Some sites have fire pits but not all, and there was a fire warning while we were there. We loved the site we had but at 10pm another car pulled in and tried setting up a massive tent in the dark and the family was screaming at eachother trying to figure it out. I guess it didn't work out and they ended up leaving in the middle of night leaving a ton of trash behind that we ended up picking up in the morning. Please respect the space!
Easy drive from the springs
We reserved the site ahead of time, right above the reservoir with an easy path down to the water . Garbage and bathrooms available . Spacious sites with a good amount of privacy from neighbors . Definitely would stay here again . A bit of a bumpy dirt road back , made it with my car but would be better suited for AWD/4WD VEHICLES .
Plenty of Dispersed Camping
When camping, having a lagoon, river or a lake close by adds value to your outdoor time. Camping here was a great experience. There are few dispersed areas to camp along 306 Forest Road. We checked all of them and some of them are difficult to access if your car is not high enough. We drove a Subaru Crosstrek. The views from here are great specially sunset and sunrise. This place seems to be used heavily by the amount of cigarette butts we found on the ground. The trash around was noticeable but not annoying. We picked up a few papers and cans to make more enjoyable. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and we found plenty of spaces. I recommend this place as a base to access the reservoir where you can find bathrooms and other amenities like fishing, kayaking, hiking and the Promontory Picnic Area which you won’t be disappointed. You need to buy your access pass to the reservoir ahead of time online or pay for it cash at the entrance. Cellular Service is weak before entering the reservoir area and none inside the recreation area.
