Keep hiking
Update for my most recent visit: I would first go check out my video review of this site below since it will help you get an idea of what is available and help you understand how the space is set up. I also have several videos attached that show some of the more confusing trail components so you don’t get lost. This is the closest campground to the trailhead and my least favorite of the options in the park. I would really only stay here if you are in a pinch and need a last minute flat site to pitch a tent.

Primitive Solo Site
If hiking in Cheaha, this is a nice and easy site to get to. Located very close to the parking lot, this small primitive site is right off the loop trail at Cheaha. The biggest downside to this site is that it is small and only large enough for one group. The other downside is that if you are willing to hike a bit more, there are camping options that are closer to the main lookout point. However, I truly feel that any site in the area is great for camping because of the long, but not too challenging hikes and wonderful look out.

Better Campgrounds
This campground lies on one of my favorite backpacking loop hikes in all of Alabama. The campsite lies right off of the trail that connects the Pinhoti and Cave Creek trails. If you park in the Cheaha trailhead parking lot and start heading up the trail and make your first right you will come to this site. It has the basics such as a firepit and space to set up a tent. It is not a huge site though so don't plan on getting more than one tent up. One of the advantages to this site versus others in the area is that it is the closest to the parking lot and also the closest to any water source. To get to the stream nearby hike back the way you came and go down the other trail instead. After a short time you will come across several small streams that you can filter water from.
