North Cascades National Park

Just to the east of the pass, the Sahale Arm Trail veers steeply north towards Sahale Peak. The views from Sahale Arm are breathtaking as the trail ascends through sublpine meadows and over steep rock scree, before ending at the toe of the Sahale Glacier and a designated campsite.

From Cascade Pass, you can also head east and downward towards campsites at Pelton Basin and a popular side-trip to Horseshoe Basin-a spectacular steep walled cirque with waterfalls, wildflowers, and an historic mining site.

Beautiful

Great spot in the valley of mountains. Lots of bears in this area but they keep to themselves.

Very snowy

Beautiful area, but no trail markers if there is snow on the ground. Once over cascade pass the trail is hard to find. Snow stays deep in Pelton Basin late into the summer.

Great views, great group cooking area

Beautiful backcountry campground, complete with composting toilet (with a view!). Water is easy access from the creek, just down the hill. This campground is just about .5 miles downhill from Cascade Pass and a great stop before or after visiting Sahale Glacier. This is the perfect site for a large group, but it also has a few smaller “tucked away” spots for individuals, couples, etc. Group cooking area is well thought out, with bear boxes right next to it. When we visited in August, there were quite a few flies working the day shift, so bring your bug spray. Cost=free! Permit required from NOCA Wilderness Information Center in Marblemount.
