About

State Park

To really enjoy the Northwood’s try camping at one of Oconto’s two great campgrounds. You can choose Holtwood Campground, which lies on the banks of the beautiful Oconto River and includes all of your camping amenities or “rough it” as one might say, and try City Park Campground, which is just feet from the stunning Bay of Green Bay. Which ever one you decide, you’ll be sure to get a little R & R (rest and relaxation).

Nestled along the Oconto River, Holtwood Campground is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. Located only 30 minutes north of Green Bay, we offer a variety of attractions for those who want to relax or for the fast-paced adventurer. Take a canoe trip down the river, play some mini golf or simply enjoy a good book next to the campfire. Whatever your pleasure, our rustic and sunny campsites offer a quiet and relaxing atmosphere along the beautiful banks of the Oconto River.

Best at Dawn

I have said for years that nothing beats the sunrise over Lake Michigan. This park has just that. Pristine waterfront over looks the Green Bay with clear views towards Door County. The park has plenty of space for the kids to play and have fun. The campsites are near to the woods and give a good natural feel to the camping space. Very affordable and quiet spot. Definitely recommend it.

Fascinating History

This park is named after the little-understood Copper Culture people; so named because we have little more information about them other than their use of the metal. The park boasts a few varied trails that stretch throughout the area. A few trails go through what is though to be a massive mass burial pit of the Copper Culture that could be older than 5000 years! It was sobering to consider but also fascinating. The trail led to a very nice spot along the river. Unfortunately, I don't believe camping was allowed on site, which is why I removed a star. Definitely a good and interesting spot for the history buff or for a nice day trip.

A Little Hidden Gem

This park is not a campground. It does have a small American Indian Museum that is sometimes open during the summer months. A pavilion you can rent! Can walk down to the Oconto RIver and fish from shore. Short walking trails. Can get on a walking/bicycle trail that connects to the Oconto River Walk that goes through parts of Oconto. Bird houses that you can read about bird species. Parking and cooking grills for your use!
