About
State Park
Enjoy a scenic drive along the Molalla River. The Molalla River Recreation Area, located approximately 10 miles southeast of Molalla in Clackamas County, offers easy river access and opportunities for picnicking, swimming, camping, whitewater boating and fishing. The Molalla is one of the few undammed tributaries of the Willamette River and cuts a picturesque gorge on its way to the valley floor. The Molalla River Recreation Area also serves as the gateway to Table Rock Wilderness.

I lived in this area for several years and we made ample use of Molalla River State Park. It’s beautiful (although at the time you had to pass through a less scenic neighborhood west of Salem) and there is all sorts of stuff to do. It never occurred to me to camp here, as I lived too close, but I can see how it would be a fun weekend activity to people from a little farther afield — or even out of towners passing through.
There is a big grassy area good for picnics, a little dog park, the nearby river, tons of bird watching (especially blue herons!), scenic drives and hikes, wineries not too far away, fresh fruit during the summertime.
