About

State Park

The Clear Bay Recreation Area Trail System, located on the south side of Lake Thunderbird in Norman, offers 18.5 miles of hiking trails for hikers and mountain bikers of all skill levels. Each of the five trails is interconnecting, and they can also be hiked on their own as a loop. Beginners are best suited to the 1.5 mile Green Loop and the 1 mile Yellow Loop, while intermediate hikers will be comfortable on the 1.25 mile Red Loop and 4.75 mile Blue Loop. The Gold Loop, which consists of 10 miles of switchbacks, should be left to expert-level hikers only.

Good view. That's all

Showers and toilets were under construction so a car ride was required to reach the next closest. Tent sites were overgrown with grass and ticks were abundant. Signage was not good. Good luck finding your site if you arrive after dark. Lots of traffic once it got dark with people circling to look for their sites. Boat traffic in the lake plays loud music late into the evening. Voices carry throughout the campground. Be aware that the park address might be far from your camp site....check your area before plotting your course.

Thieves

There is a bunch of smash and grab break ins here. Just happened to me yesterday. Was only on a hike literally 20 minutes came back and my passenger side window was busted out luckily I had my credit cards and cash on me .

Party lake and bathroom of horror

We had the entire campground to ourselves, which we love, and since we were only passing through didnt pick a picturesque site. There are shelter areas and a bathroom with showers. The sites have fire rings, concrete tables, some have grills and bars to hang stuff on. Since we showed up on a Sunday, trash was everywhere, so this campsite is lacking in cleanliness and there is not a park host. Bathrooms were terrifying. They are not maintained beyond replacing toilette paper, which may be a once a month thing. Stalls were missing doors, the showers didn't turn off completely, it smelled of mildew, and the spiders. The spiders were territorial, guarded the toilets and entryways, and probably ate small birds and kittens. If you have an issue with spiders, I recommend dehydration and starvation. Just kidding...but not totally. Overall, its beautiful here. Could have been a lot cleaner.
