Eastern Gateway to Sonora Pass

Sonora Bridge is the first campground you come to on the eastern side of beautiful Sonora Pass. There are 23 first come first serve tent and RV sites shades by tall Jeffrey pines. Recreational opportunities include hiking, fishing horseback riding nearby and of course relaxing.

Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest Has No Interest Maintaining Campground

The water situation is bleak at Sonora Bridge. There is NO WATER at this Campground!!! It has been shut off for years and Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest Shows NO INTEREST In Fixing The Problem Because It Is NOT Located In the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest Main Office State!!! The Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest Does Not Find Alternative Solutions To the Problem. The Way I see It is The Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest Office Won't Drop A Dime In A Campground In California!!!

The Campground has been one of the Three favorite spots in the area. One Of the Three Got Washed Away In 1997 called Shingle Mills. The Location Is Now A Picnic Area.  I have seen Sonora Bridge campground in its Best Shape and recently have seen it in a declining effort by the land management of Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest with the main office in an entirely different state. I spoke with through email the head man at the Nevada Office and he referred me to the Bridgeport Office.

I emailed to find out why the water was shut off completely and was told that the levels of cancer causing chemicals in the water were too high. I am not a scientist. The next this I was told was that they had drilled a new well and came up with worse results.

I have searched the USFS websites for detailed information on the findings but not one notices for the concern

I Usually Camp at this location Memorial and Labor Day. I have Stayed I in this campground for a week many times during the summer

NO WATER AT THIS SITE!!!

I was up the week before labor day. The Westrex campground host informed me that the water was shut off to campers or visitors. The reason why was the lead and arsenic levels in the pipe where to high. I Still haven't talked to anyone who can or will confirm this.

With that said, the price of $18, $9 for Vets is too much.

Fishing is Awesome when the flow of the West Walker is slow. Not good after a thaw.
