Great place
I loved it super secluded way off the beaten path. Great camp host and the fishing was incredible
Worth the drive...?
I have been here twice, and it was nearly empty both times. The first time, we were inexperienced and it was our very first camping trip - we didn’t realize how low in elevation this campground is and man was it HOT. Swimming was not great either so that wasn’t much relief. However - we had PLENTY of room for ourselves and our two big dogs, and plenty of privacy. We made it down the road just fine in our truck pulling a 23” popup, but it’s slow going with a few very tight turns. Might be fun during cooler weather if I were with a group and worried about disturbing other groups at a busier campground, but I doubt we will be back.
Remote and quite, if you want to get away from the crowds
It's about 14 miles of dirt road to get to this campground and there were no signs last time I was here. I made the drive in a 2wd cargo van and I saw an 80s Ford Mustang down there at the same time but i don't think I'd recommend doing that. A basic truck or SUV would have an easy time driving down.
The campground is down in the river canyon and there are only a dozen sites or so, many are tucked into the trees along the base of the hill and those are the best sites since they are shaded. The river runs along the edge of the campground with a beautiful trail that leads upstream, lots of great fishing, watch out for poison oak.
There are pit toilets and water faucets.
The campgound is a quite remote campground that is no where as busy as campgrounds like Fraiser Flat or Pinecrest. If you want to get away from people it's the place to be, but with so few sites you might make the drive down there only to find out everything is full. To me it's worth the risk.
