Decent dispersed camping
There was some decent sites, but you have to drive past the developed campgrounds to find them. Most are just barely off the road however. But if you are willing to brave some deep pot holes and rocks, there are some great views to be found.
Do you like being on the side of a raod?
The Wolf Creek Road Dispersed campsites were nothing worthwhile to me. The road in is fairly narrow and FULL of potholes. There is a lot of traffic the first half mile because of the other campgrounds. Campsites 2 through 7 are all in the switchbacks (watch the video) so they are fairly small, extremely close to the road, and there is a drop off on the other side of the road. (Would strongly advise against this for small children) We did see quite a few RV/trailers in these spots but truthfully I have no idea how they get them out shy of driving all the way to the bottom, turning around in the larger group sites, and then driving back up. If 2 trailers were to meet on the road it would be hard to find a place to pass. We were able to turn our pop up camper around in one of the larger switchbacks between sites 11 and 12.
