Bald Mountain Campground
About
Situated on 160 acres in a peaceful, secluded river valley surrounded by the peaked hills of Southern Vermont, Bald Mountain's setting in any season is unmatched. We offer 190 open and wooded sites, with many located on the beaver pond or the West River. We have a separate tenting area as well as pull-through and seasonal sites and can accommodate group camping with a rates-kitchen and pavilion.
Bald Mountain has been family-owned and operated for over 40 years, and we take pride in operating a clean, quiet, and friendly campground. Our amenities include restrooms, showers, dump station, laundromat, playground, volleyball, basketball, ping pong, horseshoes, picnic tables, and fireplaces.
Spend the day in the campground fishing, swimming, biking, hiking, climbing, playing, or just relaxing. Spring and summer offer slow tubing down the beautiful West River, dropping off at the campground's edge. No matter what the season, the area offers various activities for you and your family.

Love it here
Have been going since a kid!! Love the place hope to one day have a site here with a camper
busy with permanent longterm campers but lovely hearing the river babble by
Tent camped here with my dog for two nights. Was sold absolutely green wood that would not burn (why do campgrounds always do this??). First site I was given was out of view of the river, which was entire reason for visiting. Campground owner was accommodating and found me a spot that overlooked the river (why not do that from the start?). There is no privacy whatsoever to the sites, and sites are one on top of the other (my tent was basically uncomfortably close to neighbor's fire pit, but there was no other option for pitching elsewhere). The nights were very loud with kids screaming and people partying. It's a mishmash of sites too -- my tent was squished in between a permanent trailer and a weekend fifth wheeler. But the river was magnificent and I could hear it babble by all night; very relaxing once the place quieted down. Very close to Townsend State Forest and a beautiful hike up Bald Mountain, which looks to have really nice, spacious and quiet tent sites (already booked for next year).

Friendly Neighborhood of Campers
We have spent lots of time camping here and love every minute of it. The sites are clean, grassy, fairly level, and spacious. River front sites are not usually available for a weekend but you can always access the West River via the 2 beaches set aside for campers. A family favorite campground with lots of folks rafting, tubing, and kayaking. We usually start just below the Townshend Dam by the covered bridge and can float about 20 minutes to the campground or stay floating down river for hours and hours. The river fluctuates in water level so experiences can vary throughout the year. The seasonal folks are incredibly friendly and all of the dogs are so well behaved. They get lots of exercise so they don't get worked up. There's a neat small playground with swings for the kids, a big rec hall for groups to gather and clean rest rooms. I recommend you order a bucket of wood from the office as soon as you check in and they will drive the loader over to your site. This is a family run campground and this year (2018) they are celebrating 50 years. Like to eat out? You'll love the Townshend Dam Diner (north on 30) and Rick's Tavern (south on 30.)
