Lake Waco Marina

Catered to boats more than camping.

I love Lake Waco Marina! I have so many childhood memories of fishing with my dad at this marina and I enjoyed going back to visit with my son after so many years. First off it can be a little tricky to find because you have to take some country roads to get to it and you think your going nowhere, but at least GPS is accurate. Also watch for potholes in the road, there are a lot.

Now the Marina is located directly next to Speegleville Park which I would definitely recommend if your looking to stay here. The have the same amenities as the marina, but much better views of the lake, plus you would still have access to the Marina.

Let's start with the pro's first. Excellent restaurant on site! The Slippery Minnow/ Smoke on the Water is a floating barge/ restaurant and it has a great atmosphere and bands play on the weekend (mostly country, so get ready to party). They had a decent bar selection (lots of beer), and excellent down home cookin' food! Staff is wonderful and it is always a good time!

There is boat ramp access here and some great fishing spots on the docks. Bathrooms are old and sometimes not the cleanest but the make do. It also looks like they are working on expanding which is nice. I saw they were currently opening up more RV sites on the other site of the cove.

I think the biggest con for campers is that there aren't those lake views you would be hoping for. It is a local marina, so the majority of the water space is docks full of house boats. Also not the fancy house boats over at Ridgewood country club across the street. This is a marina full of rowdy rednecks and fisherman! Great crowd to hang out with and the nicest people you will ever meet, but don't set your standards too high!

The do sell minnows, ice, and gas for your boat here, but they can be out of stock quite often, thankfully there is a gas station about 6 miles down the road you can stock up. Most sites are made for RV's so you have to search for shaded areas. They have some great fishing sites, but this is not a place for swimming or hiking. If you head over to the Twin Bridges Park there is a man made beach and a few trails you can visit. Also there is a Fixer Upper boat (Magnolia- Chip & Joanne) located at the marina that you can walk through!
