A spring-fed lake, trails through the forest, quiet camp­sites – what more do you need? Get away from hectic city life at Cleburne State Park, just 30 minutes south­west of Fort Worth on the northern edge of the Hill Country.

All campsites have water and elec­tricity; some have sewer hookups as well. You can also reserve a screened shelter or cabin (bathrooms with showers are nearby).

Cleburne State Park Campground

Keyhole camp grounds are great! About 4-6 sites backing up to a creek. Great if you have a big group. Close to bathrooms and trailhead. Great Lake area too. But we went in November.

Great group camp grounds but lovely for weekend getaway 

Not a huge park, but beautiful and quiet.  

Small but beautiful 

Came here with my husband for my birthday for one night. We had a great site on a loop close to the restrooms (which is a plus). We roasted hot dogs, played games, went hiking, and had an all around good time. We've also come here with our big group and rented a couple of the shelters. Unfortunately it rained almost the whole weekend but we still made the best of it. We will be back.

Birthday Trip

If it's been raining, the spillway has several waterfalls and you can swim next to them! The lake is ok to paddle, but it's a little small. Watch out for poison ivy along the trails. It is everywhere! Nice that the trails go around the lake. You can spend the whole day hiking and swimming.

Such a beautiful place to camp. Our campsite was wooded and overlooked the lake. We were able to fish, hike, and kayak. We got two large tents at our campsite and had plenty of room. The trees were also perfect for hanging out hammocks.

An easy drive from the dfw area. This state park was clean and well maintained. Our site was close to the water, and the morning sunrises and evening sunsets were beautiful. 

Clean and quiet 

Nice little State Park close to DFW.  The park was quiet (as in not many campers) when we were there.  Only complaint was the water was extremely dirty, but that could have been attributed to a large amount of rain the day we got there.  

Great get away spot 

Only 1.5 hours outside of the DFW area, Cleburne is a great choice to get away for the weekend. It is quite busy on the weekends being so close to civilization, so make reservations in advance. I picked spot 26 in the Keyhole section of the park. When I got there I found very little level ground. The other camp spaces around had plenty, so it was just bad luck on y part. The park rangers were efficient and helpful as most tend to be. All-in-all, I can recommend camping here.

Close to home, but plenty of outdoors to explore

Once again Cleburne State Park has been such an amazing place to visit. If you get to go please try to get spot (46) it’s a full hook up and tent camping. That’s not the best part of it it it right on the lake with its own beach area. As the wonderful park rangers in the front said, “ the best view and camping spot in the whole park”.

Took the whole family out

Cleburne SP is one of our go to locations south of the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex.  Very nice spring fed lake with lots of hiking trails and fishing spots.   Poplar Point Loop has full hookups with some having lake front access.   North Creek Loop also has full hookups.   Electric and Water only loops are Cedar Grove, Shady Springs and Keyhole.

Great SP close to DFW.

We stayed at Poplar Point loop on the lake. A beautiful view out our bedroom window. It rained hard one night, but the steep grade toward the lake kept the sites from puddling. The Coyote Run hiking trail was moderately difficult and had a great view at the end. I’d give it more stars, except (1) most sites (at least at Poplar Point) are not level, (2) it’s not inexpensive, and (3) there is no cell service except for the occasional partial bar that we could text through. Great if you want to go off-grid, but it makes us very uncomfortable. Luckily the host was right across the way. They have cell booster infrastructure in place, but it was 3G and went down when AT&amp;T stopped supporting it. I hope they upgrade it soon so we can go back.
