Come for a picnic, afternoon swim, fishing trip or a weekend campout on the banks of the spring-fed Blanco River. We’re just an hour from Austin and San Antonio.

Blanco State Park Campground

Blanco State Park is kind of an interesting park. It is located within the city of Blanco, Texas. It is a small park with the main attraction being that it is located on the Blanco River, thus there is river access. 

  

If you need any supplies there are two grocery store in the town of Blanco. There is also a cute little town square with a couple of nice restaurants. We ate at the Redbud Cafe and it was great.

  

We arrived at the park after the sun had set. We entered the park, crossed over a bridge  and found our campsite on a loop road. I would say that most of the other campsites were filled with RVs. I suppose that if you have an RV and like having the conveniences of a town nearby this might be the campground for you. 

  

Our group was camping in tents and hammocks so we found the campground a bit unusual. There were tent pads to set up tents and plenty of trees to hang some hammocks. In addition, there was a parking spot, water, electricity, open space, picnic table, sun awning and grill. There were restrooms nearby our campsite. I would say that the restrooms could stand an update.

  

The main attraction of this park is that it is located on the banks of the Blanco River. We were able to hike, swim and explore the river downstream from the main park. 

  

I'd say if you were looking for peace and quiet in a natural setting, this may not be the best option. If you're looking for an RV campground with access to a river and a town, then this might be perfect for you.

Small but nice

We visited the Blanco State Park in February of 2017. This is a small park, but the river is gorgeous. There were two hiking trails, they were both easy enough for us to bring our 2 year old. One of the trails we were even able to bring her stroller. There is a small park with some swings and a slide over looking the river. There are several places to fish, but we didn't catch anything. It was too cold to swim, but this park would be perfect for summer swimming.

Great swimming. Shaded campsites. Walking distance into Blanco. On future visits I would choose campsites on the #20 side of the campground for less traffic noise.

Nice cool river that you can swim or fish in.  Boat rentals are available.  It is a small campground that has full hookups.  It has sheltered and a pavillion you can rent.  I know I'll be back.

Love this place!

This is smaller state park but it has everything you need.  Larger sites, lots of shade and a cool river to swim in.  There aren’t much in the way of hiking trails but to soothe your ills just walk down to the Blanco river and hang out in a tube or just swim.  The sites all have a covered table which is really nice during the summer.  There is a rock walled area that is the “kiddie pool” area that is really nice to relax in.  I would also recommend heading into town and checking out the town square.  There are lots of fun little shops.  

The river is the place to be

Beautiful little park with all the fixings of a larger campground. Large nice camping spaces, but leaves much to be desired in the hiking category. We heard about this park from friends and decided to make a weekend trip and check it out. If you’re looking for a place to just kick back and relax, this place isn’t to shabby. The only real issue was the highway noise from the road that runs right next to the park. Great little swimming areas though. 

Nice but small  

We love to visit this small park several times a year.  It’s beautiful with views of the Blanco River.  My husband hasn’t had any luck catching fish but he still enjoys trying.  I love that we can just reserve a site and be there in less than an hour.  No need to pack groceries as the park is right off the Main Street.  We’ve enjoyed most of their restaurants around their courthouse. It’s great because we don’t have to cook.  

Our Favorite Park 

Blanco State Park is just beautiful. It sits right on the shores of the Blanco River and we had a gorgeous view of the water. The restrooms were in top shape and our site had a covered picnic table.  In our trip around Texas, this was one of our favorite state parks.  Easy to book online and very inexpensive with our Texas State Parks pass.  We were even able to walk into the cute town of Blanco and enjoy some fantastic BBQ at Old 300!  Would love to return.

Love Love Love This Park

Tent camped 5JUL20, 1 night. 

This is a great park, right on the banks of the Blanco and right on the edge of downtown Blanco, Tx.

Site 6 had decent trees but we were right in between 2 giant motor coaches, so quiet and rustic it was not, but it was beautiful and we made ample use of the river and swimming areas. Enjoyed the roof over the picnic table. 

Restrooms were clean but a little older. No real hiking to speak of but we enjoyed every minute of it.  Afterwards we went to town and had some great BBQ. 

Not too much to say about this park except that we loved it and will definitely be back, oh and MURDER HORNETS! (Maybe, but prolly not) 

Tiny Park That Lives Large

Our third camping stay at one of our favorite Hill Country state parks alongside the beautiful Blanco River. Reservations for a FHU site made 88 days prior to arriving and with a Texas State Park Pass, it cost us$17.25/nightly. Nice and shady campground with a shelter over the campsite picnic table. Level gravel site. Campsites are packed in closely without any privacy from neighbors. Due to this, sadly we witnessed some crazy camper behavior…tent campers cutting tree branches from their campsite for a campfire and another campsite permitting their toddler to run naked most of the daylight hours who defecated throughout their campsite repeatedly. One lane bridge across the Blanco River to the campground. There is no controlled access after hours. Some road noise from US Highway 281. We never saw a camp host or ranger in the campground during our stay. One toilet/shower facility serves 29 campsites PLUS day users swimming at the dam. Facilities were in fairly clean condition. Upon check-in, we were issued a code to the shower stall. It took up to a dozen attempts with the code to gain access. Toilet paper in the women’s toilet was scarce this weekend, so much so, women were going into the men’s toilet and taking it from there. We took advantage of the no-fee entrance and toured both Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site and the LBJ Ranch in Stonewall, approximately 22 miles from Blanco State Park. Even with COVID19 closures of some buildings and displays, we took over 3 hours for this experience. Great shady picnic areas at LBJ State Park.

Small Tight Campground Along Blanco River

This is a great little park right in the town of Blanco. Sitting right on the river it gives you the feel of being in the country. Nice for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. There is one loop that has FHU’s

Nice small park, a few sites have full hookup

While small, this state park has a nice amount of river front along the Blanco river. The river is dammed creating some really nice sections of water to kayak on. 
The sites are nice with covered picnic tables and some have sewer hookups. You can walk into Blanco's downtown square without crossing the highway if you cross the river from the campsites and walk towards the highway bridge. You'll find a back entrance into the little park on the square! If you're into road cycling, there is nice riding out of Blanco.

**💜 Highlights of this trip:**

• Short drive to Johnson City to look at Christmas lights

• Proof and Cooper at The Lumberyard, Johnson City- we got in quickly, but they were busy and it was a long wait to order and get the food. Good though!

• Camping with a former Boondocker at my site

• Breakfast muffins from the InstaPot with air fryer lid- gonna have to get one of these!
