Quiet and Peaceful

Overall pretty good experience, however the mosquitoes are annoying. We left with so many mosquito bites that it’s ridiculous. The grounds could be better kept i.e cutting the grass. Very clean bathrooms and competent staff. We originally had parked close to the river but had to relocate due to…

OK in a pinch

If you need a place to stay for a night, it will suffice. Utilities all worked. However...

Parking was in an open area. No trees. VERY close to I-10 so it was noisy all night. Place looked generally run down. Bathroom was out of order (see photo). Dumpster overflowing. We had Passport America and…

Very nice city park - Hidden Gem alert!

We came into this park on the 4th day of the big Texas freeze this past winter. Unfortunate for them,  pipe broke and they were out of water at the time. But it was fixed a couple days after we arrived.

Now as for the park. It has a section of 30 amp services which are in some shades and are on…

You can't get closer to the water without getting wet.

Just chill. The place is clean, not much around and free. The beach is made up of shells, not sand, so some sort of protective shoes are needed. That aside, there is not much to do here except to relax. And that is just we wanted.

When we stayed in early April there were plenty of other campers…

Great State Park

Well maintained park, close to Presidio and Goliad downtown. Nice bike trail and paddle destination.

Fun Weekend

Camped with all 5 of our little ones, great campground, staff was friendly and helpful and the store right by the park gates sells hard wood firewood for a decent price

Authentic Charm & Free Camping

Magnolia Beach is a mid-nineteenth century beach front community that offers authentic charm because it has not been gentrified. No high říše condos or pretentious sea side mansions, and no casinos or fancy resorts. There is a large inland estuary for birding and an elevated walk way with an…

Chilled Out Getaway

The other reviews were very promising, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere of peace and relaxation. I live in north Houston, and it took us about 3 hours to get there, on a Friday afternoon. Since we went in the wintertime, there weren’t that many people, but the people…

Good Travel Stop

We stayed here for a couple of nights while touring the nearby Shiner brewery and the historic old churches in the area.  The sites are small, and there are many full timers in the park, but there are several sites available for short term travelers.   Many folks use this as a travel stop.  The…

Great stop over

We only did two nights here. It was windy and cold so we didn’t get to check the whole resort out. I will say all the staff are friendly and courteous. Great view of the lake from our end spot. We will be back again.

Perfect Rest

This was the perfect place to rest after a long 3 days of travel with a sick pooch. They have everything you would need and more. Disc golf, paint ball, hiking, bike trail, and of course fishing. If that isn’t enough if your there at the right time they have a rodeo complex next door.

Free beach

Free beach camping. There’s plenty of other campers here. And seashells everywhere!! By day there’s a seeming ugly view of an oil refinery across the water... but by night that place lights up and there’s something more whimsical about it. This was fun for a one night stop along the way.

Free, Quiet, & Away from the Crowds at Magnolia Beach

Some places are just best discovered than read about, and Indianola Beach is one such place. We came for a night, and stayed for a week. This place just might win the award for the most chilled-out camping area on the continent, but it would have to muster enough enthusiasm to enter the contest.…

  • This osprey flew right by our door with a fish!
