We are primarily a Permaculture learning lab and living center on 55 acres of land in the Sam Houston Forest in Evergreen, Texas. Camping fees help us meet new people and pay our expense and improvement costs.
We try to keep our camping sites in tree stands to keep the look and feel of pure nature as much as possible. There is a pond on the property. The hike to the pond is a fairly easy trail. There are some open areas for riding your bikes and ATVs. There are many brushy areas for exploring. If you make it to the back of the property(bring your compass), there is a shallow creek year around. Bring your walking sticks, bikes, ATVs, fishing poles and bait, life jackets, canoe, kayak, raft, paddles.
Off-grid primitive camping is available on weekends(Friday through Sunday). We have 10 sites. Costs are$20 per night with your own off-grid camping equipment and$100 per night to rent our equipment. Tent setup is in the forest floor. We grow and regenerate the soil using organic principles so no pesticides or chemicals permitted. We provide local handmade soap(when available), Dr. Bronner's soap, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, and a daily refillable natural bug repellent at no cost for each camping group. You are welcome to gather firewood from the property.$7 per day extra wlll get you a clean portable potty each day. City water is available to refill containers near the Living Center's community shed. Hot water is available in your container upon request. There is an open outdoor shower available at the back of the Living Center community center.
We suggest you bring a tent, sleeping bag or roll, hammock, refillable water containers with a spout, a portable potty(we have empty sites and cleaning equipment you can use) towels, shower shoes, long sleeves, long pants, a hat, socks, close-toed shoes(rubber boots are nice), a rain coat, a compass, and walking sticks. In WINTER months we suggest clean loose fitting night time only socks, warm pajamas, and extra top sheet and blanket, a small foot blanket for inside your bedding, rubber boots, a warm hat and scarf and warm gloves.
