Fall Creek Falls State Park is one of Tennessee’s largest and most visited state parks. The park encompasses more than 29,800 acres sprawled across the eastern top of the rugged Cumberland Plateau. Laced with cascades, gorges, waterfalls, streams and lush stands of virgin hardwood timber, the park beckons those who enjoy nature at her finest. Fall Creek Falls, at 256 feet, is one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States. Other waterfalls within the park include Piney Falls, Cane Creek Falls, and Cane Creek Cascades.
The park is located in Bledsoe and Van Buren counties, 11 miles east of Spencer and 18 miles west of Pikeville. It may be entered from Highway 111 or Highway 30.

In 1937, the federal government began purchasing the badly eroded land around Fall Creek Falls. The following year, the Works Progress Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began restoring the forest and constructing park facilities. A few years later in 1944, the National Park Service transferred ownership of the park to the State of Tennessee.

Fall Creek Falls features 30 cabins, 222 campsites, and the 85-room Lodge Fall Creek Falls. Backcountry camping is also available with a permit.

The park is home to a variety of activities suitable for visitors of all ages and abilities. Hikers can opt for short or long walks around the lake and to the base of Fall Creek Falls. There are two long-distance overnight trails for adventure-seeking visitors while the day-use trails are designed to accommodate recreational and educational activities for all ages. More than 56 miles of trails can be explored.

Campground B. The site we had was level and clean. Across from the bathhouse. Always lots of people here but it doesn't matter. Beautiful area and plenty to do.

Clean and perfect! 

I've been camping here many times, in multiple places—the full RV-hookup campground, the group camps, and the walk-in sites. All are worth checking out! All of them are clean, although they can be pretty crowded during the summer. Fall Creek Falls has lots of beautiful hikes + swimming areas, so you might want to have access to a car (or at least bring a bike) to explore the whole thing. It's a great place to camp!

Great Park

...well, at least up to two weeks, because that's the park limit. 

Fall Creek Falls is the largest park in Tennessee, and it is, well, big! There's a ton to do and it's in such a beautiful spot. I like to think of this state park as a beginner South Cumberland (in hiking at least!). There's a few hiking trails with plenty of overlooks and waterfalls and a suspension bridge to a nature center. There's also a trail down to the bottom of Fall Creek Falls where you can swim.

The campsites are nice with a bath house and firepits and there is a whole complex and general store not too far from the campsites. There's even a mini laundry mat and a snack bar! Just a ton to do especially if you have kids. 

I would recommend this state park as a family vacation!

Stay awhile at Fall Creek Falls...

Love this place. We were there during a dry spell so the falls weren't as spectacular as normal but it is still a great place to go. 5 different campgrounds. We em were in C but won't pick it again. Probably go with B because it's newer. 

Things to see and do..George Hole swimming. Olympic pool swimming, kayak and paddle boat rentals, zip lines, hiking to the bottom of the falls( slippery and tedious), visit the restaurant and shops, nature center, and gem mining..my sons favorite!

Be sure to visit the nature center. There is a lot of info to glean there. And just above there is the playground as well as the cable trail which is difficult but worth it!!

Forgot this part..

As with most state parks the sites are nice (but not too private) bathrooms are clean, you can purchase firewood and there are evening programs. But this park..well they are all about family - there is now a zipline in the park and 35 miles of wonderful trails to explore. This is a busy state park though and for me one of the 3 the back-country sites might have been a better choice. Book early! Especially for fall! Be prepared for critters in camp at night by making sure all your food items are stored securely.  Wishing I had not forgotten the camera for this side trip!

A great place for family

Fall Creek Falls State Park has so much to offer while you are camping. There are so many activities during all seasons. Now we have only camped in the cooler months but if you do camp in the summer that have a huge pool to enjoy during your visit. They just completed a major remodel on the pool and it is amazing. I hope one summer we will get to enjoy it. But if you are not able to use the pool dont worry because you will have a full schedule while there. From hiking the many trails & exploring the beautiful waterfall, to visiting the nature center for a show, riding bikes on the trails, to completing the zipline coarse they have. I tell you there is so much to so it is crazy. We enjoy hiking to the waterfall every time we visit & just take in the beauty of all the nature around. 
 If I recall correctly there are 4 different camping areas, anything from tents, to pop ups to large fifth wheels &  motor homes. There is a spot for anyway you enjoy camping for your stay. The camp sites are clean and well maintained. There are plenty of restrooms around to accommodate all the campers. We have never had any issues with having to wait for the showers or restrooms. And with kids, esp. smaller ones, that is a big deal for families. What I did like at a couple of the camping areas was the wide open grass area for the kids to run & play if they get bored sitting around the camp site. They can play a game of kick ball or just go pass some ball. It is a good place for the kids to hang out while we were getting dinner ready in the evenings. 
 We have really enjoyed every visit to Fall Creek Falls and can not wait until our next visit to the park. There is so much for us to do while there we need a vacation after visiting.. Hope you enjoy your visit as much as we have,, 

Relaxing Camping & Beautiful Hikes

Wow! What a great park, so much to do, something for everyone. Which means it is very popular. I enjoyed hiking the trails and viewing the waterfalls. The campground is large with over 200 campsites. Every site had water and electric, campfire rings and picnic tables. Tents and RVs were mixed together (not ideal for me).  Bathrooms were clean. Some parts of the park were a bit too developed for my taste (zip line), but if you like to hike you can get away from the crowds pretty easily.

This camp ground has lots of build up (zip lines, adventure outings, a golf course) which is usually a deterrent for me. But I chose a "primitive" site which ended up being very close to the trails.  Very beautiful place to be, and surprisingly not busy the week before Labor Day weekend!

Campground is great. Lots to see; beautiful waterfalls, miles of hiking most views are a short distance from parking. Can't wait to go back for the fall colors

Great adventure

Fall Creek Falls State Park was extremely well marked all the way in.

The campgrounds are well kept and clean but it was crowded when we visited. This is the type of campground if every site is booked you can see a lot of your neighbor. That being said all the campgrounds are limited access so it will only be traffic from the campground. The showerhouse was in good working order and clean as can be expected for being at full capacity.

There are primitive sites available and remote sites for backpackers, make sure you sign in.

Lots of trails! The main one to the falls is strenuous, walking sticks help :) The trail up to the overlook is pretty awesome and varied terrain, well worth the effort.

There are stables for you horse people and trails to go with.

A Lake for water fun, kayaking, fishing , etc. and the day use area is very picturesque.

You can easily spend a considerable amount of time at Fall Creek Falls and do something different everyday.

Almost too touristy........

Long post, there's so much! Had to return to this place! We visited in spring and returned for the summer. There's tons to do from hiking, to swimming, waterfall gazing, rock climbing, ziplining, and much more. We camped here in July but also stayed at the Inn during the spring. The Inn has a buffet style restaurant, all rooms overlook the lake, and there's a game room for the kids as well as a heated pool. The campgrounds are spacious and have great clean bathrooms. The park itself has a scenic loop drive of the gorge, multiple waterfalls to visit, miles on end of hiking trails in which some cross rope bridges, awesome swimming holes, and even an olympic pool with diving boards and a snack shack for the kiddos. We could spend weeks here and never get board.

Awesome family getaway

Didn't stay here but the hiking was amazing. The trail down to the lake with the wire is so cool! The water is freezing but totally worth it! Great falls everywhere. Only complaint was the humidity - good god!

I’ve camped at fall creek falls many times over the years, and have always had a good time

Fall Creek Falls is well-maintained, going through some renovations this summer (2018, check the park website) a lot of that is not related to the campsites themselves, though I do think some of the bathroom/shower buildings have been recently renovated.

The last time I went, March 20 2018, The campsite we camped in in section E was large, has a fire pit with grill, a picnic table, a water faucet and electric. The grounds are wooded.

We camped March 20th, the weather had been nice for a day but suddenly turned to snow. It was a chilly night! I went looking for more firewood to purchase (all firewood must be treated or found within the park) and the welcome center was closed. Went to the lodge and the receptionist kindly apologized they didn’t have any wood but gave me directions to where I could get some outside the park. Just a short drive away from the campgrounds.

we tent camped but almost if not all other campers were in RV’s. I wouldn’t recommend going that early in the year unless you are well-prepared for possible cold nights!

Fall Creek Falls has so much to offer. If you aren’t able to walk far but want a view, you can drive to the overlook and see the falls yourself with just a few steps down to the overlook.

if you’re a hiker then there are many, many trails for your interest. You can hike down to the base of the falls, all around them and over part of the creek they come from. There is a cable trail (difficult), there are spots to swim not far from the campsites.

there are other offered adventures too such as kayaking on the lake, horseback riding, a treetop zipline course, and more!

Favorite for friends and family

This park is like a summer camp...happenin', yet relaxing. There's the nature, lots of it. You will see deer along the road and you can hike to see and play in 4 waterfalls in one afternoon. There is the Lodge with a Sunday breakfast buffet or the village with the pool, diving boards, ropes course with zip lines. At night, enjoy the summer concerts in the amphitheater. We entered in a Connect4 contest which was a lot of fun and highly competitive. If you like golf, there's a course for that.

We stayed in the A loop which has a huge playground in the middle. This is fantastic if you have children or you really like children. I suggest one of the other loops if you want quieter nights. The children played with flashlights in the field until about 10, so there's that. All this makes it a favorite park and campground for my kids.

Going back 3rd summer in a row!

We've stayed 3 times so far. Once in September, once in June, and once in February. We thoroughly enjoy our time as there are numerous trails and waterfalls within an hours drive in practically every direction. We always combine camping and hiking so there aren't many better central locations than this campground.

We are rather private campers so there is only one tent camping site that we prefer and that's P7\. It's situated far off the road with no other campers beside us. You have free range on either side to explore along with access to trails beside this site. Deer routinely walk right through the site and even approach you.

Since we camp for peace and quiet. This campground should only be visited during the week and off season if you are looking to do the same as us. Weekends are far too busy and loud for us.

During the off season, this campsite and its entire loop are closed due to no electrical connections. We decided to stay at another site which thankfully only had one or two other campers in the entire loop which made for an extremely peaceful though incredibly wet weekend.

Great campground but... 

There is a great trail that connects the campgrounds with the Woodland Trail. Once you’ve parked at the campground, there’s no need to get in your car until you leave!

Comfortable and convenient 

They packed in these campsites! Most are very close together, but because there is so much to explore, you won’t be at the campsite long. There are several waterfalls to see here. A few are even accessible by car and the a short walk down a paved access. Plan your trip here to last at least 3 days. It will take you that long to walk all of the trails and take in the beauty! 

Tightly packed campground, but worth it!

Very nice &amp; clean, easy to find everything. The staff was more than helpful &amp; my husband &amp; son enjoyed being able to fish &amp; my children enjoyed the swimming pool. There were two bathhouses in our campground &amp; both were within walking distance.

Enjoyable 

C campground is a mixed use (tents &amp; RVs), large, well accommodated camping spot within Fall Creek Falls SP. Water and electrical hookups at each site. Plenty of space between sites mostly. There are easily accessible washrooms with toilets and showers. There is also is a central, open recreation space including an open field, park swings, and pavilion. The best part about this campground is it’s direct access to the park’s best trails to the nature center and the 200+ ft namesake waterfall!

Convenience, comfort, and lots to do! 

This is a beautiful park and campground! Great for families or anyone! Bath houses were clean and well-stocked. The hosts were friendly and very helpful. The scenery is amazing! Plenty of hiking and swimming! LOVE this place!

Beautiful park

We have been camping at Fall Creek Falls for 3 years!  Not once have we had a bad experience.  There is so much to do including hiking, biking,  fishing, swimming, beautiful falls and much more!  There is something here for every outdoors person.  Our favorite camp site is section B.  A lot of tree coverage and plenty of space between sites.   We just upgraded to a camper and look forward to our first trip with it to Fall Creek Falls!  

Family Fun!

We stayed 5 nights in A7, a handicapped spot they assigned to us when we were unhappy with campground D (too close to a busy road and prIvate home). Even though it was warmer than we had hoped, we enjoyed our hikes and creek swims with our dog everyday. Saw momma deer and her two babies several times behind our site. Clean but hot restrooms.

Great Stay

Campground is great- lush vegetation helps 'bush in' the sites and gives many of them a fair amount of privacy. We love heading here in the heat of summer to play in the water all day and only get out when the evening temps get more reasonable. All kinds of fun water activities to be had- swim, paddle, even paddleboat. In cooler temps, hiking can be nice- the hike down to the falls is a bit steep- wear comfy solid shoes. A southern gem.

Forest camping at the falls

We stumbled across this state park and absolutely loved it! The kids loved sliding down the waterfall! We loved the hiking! So much to do. Nice campsites with water at each site. The center of each campground is left as an open field. Families would play ball, games, everything in the evenings. Each camping loop had its own playground and pavilion. The bathrooms were older but they had signs up that they were getting replaced soon.

We camped here last fall in a tent before we had our pup &amp; did a lot of Mountain biking! Tons of fun &amp; beautiful scenery &amp; trails! 

Awesome trails!

We recently visited Fall Creek Falls State Park, Tn while enroute to Georgia. The Tennessee countryside is an enjoyable backdrop to this meandering road trip and you are very close to several other excellent Tennessee SPs.

I noticed a sign on the way in to Fall Creek Falls advertising a yearly festival, the “Mountaineer Folk Festival” the weekend after Labor Day. The park also has a nice looking golf course, the Tree Top Canopy Challenge and an extensive facility area including the visitors center, gift shop, general store, swimming pool, laundromat and grill.

When I visited last year it was extremely busy and the attractions were crowded. This year I visited on a week day after school was back in session so it was mostly retirees who haven’t started their migration south yet ;) at the campground. Fall Creek has a large spread out campground with several choices , primitive walk-ins, glamping or something in between. There are gravel sites and paved. A picnic table, fire ring and grill as well as electric and water hookups. The facilities are centrally located in each area.

We stopped at Fall Creek Falls first and made the trek down to the base of the falls after first visiting the overlook. Moderate, technical,( rocky, slippery, wear hiking shoes, carry your flip flops for the wade in the pool below) 1.6ish mile round trip hike. When you leave the Fall Creek area there is a one way road you can take to Piney Falls it has some picturesque views of the area.

Piney Falls is worth a look too. I love suspension bridges, my dogs not so much. Piney has a .4ish mile round trip hike that includes a long suspension bridge with a short scramble down to the river.

I also noticed some bike trail trailheads within the park, something else to enjoy while visiting.

Fall Creek Falls is definitely a place you can spend a week or more at and do something different everyday.

Way down there

This is a campground that offers something for everyone. Primitive walk in sites to cabins and EVERYTHING inbetween. The sites are wooded and spacious. It can get busy, so plan ahead.

The Park offers lots of hiking, biking and sight seeing. It has a nature center that is currently closed for remodeling and so is the Hotel.(That is the only reason I gave it a 4 vs 5 star) Did I say something for everyone. It is literally the best place for a family reunion. Cousin Athena who is so green that her toenails match her style will most likely use the hike in tent site only while Grandma Betty will stay in a Cabin or Hotel while ther rest of the Gang has oprions all inbetween. It has a Store that has more IPA beer choices than a brewery, an olympic sized pool, a outfitters outdoor store and a Treetop adventure park. You can get lost for days ( sometimes that is exactly what needs to happen on family reunions, especially if you forgot the Xanax) or you can hang oht by the pool eating icecream.

Love this place and would recommend it.

something for everyone

The tent sites are wonderfully located with a short trail that connects you to a loop of the biggest and best overlooks, falls, and swimming spots. If you want to drive/bike a little further, there's a large lake, golf course, pool, and a couple restaurants inside the park. There's also a large inn and some small cabins on the lake. If you're looking for a longer hike, there are some trails in the 10-15 mile range with back country camping spots.

There's really something for everyone, but my personal favorite is the .4 mile "cable trail" to the base of Cane Creek Falls on the east side of the park. It's short, but as the name suggests, there is a cable that runs most of the trail practically out of necessity. I'm over 6 feet tall, but these "steps" are too big even for me. The trail runs along a spillway of rock down a steep hill side and you have to lower yourself down with the cable in several different spots. Once you come out of the trees at the bottom, the trail opens up to a large pool of water fed by two waterfalls. One of these is Cane Creek Falls which is much shorter than Fall Creek Falls, but has a significantly greater volume of water flowing over it. The views are great and so is the swimming. With any luck, you might also get lost on the way down and stumble across the top of the second falls which has a killer overlook of Cane Creek Falls.

Lots of civilized options, but still plenty of nature left to be great

This is hands down one of my favorite camp grounds. The entire area was super relaxed and was also a great place to hike. All the trails where very family friendly and the views were all breath taking. The staff was great and very helpful to find activities

Great family camping

We visit Fall Creek Falls at least two times per year.   Every time we visit we experience something new and exciting!  This trip we took advantage of the canoes &amp; kayaks you can rent (at a low price) and paddled around the lake.  We also took advantage of the pool that was on site.  The pool is very clean with plenty of chairs to lounge in.         We prefer to stay in loop B.  This campsite is very wooded and has sites that are spaced out that don't make you feel like you are on top of eachother.  The falls are always breathtaking and trails are short for those who don't like long hikes or are novice to hiking. This campground is a must for those who like to experience the great outdoors!

This is one of my absolute favorite spots to camp! The walk up sites are amazing, plenty of distance between sites, wildlife galore, deer will walk right up to you, they are everywhere. Very peaceful. You’ll want to bring a cart to carry gear, as it can be a little walk through the woods to get to the walk in sites, but it is well worth it!

We were in a pop-up camper on this trip, and it was fine, the sites are fairly close together though, so not much privacy. The bathrooms are just ok. The toilets didn’t have seats, which was weird! The park is amazing, so the shortcomings in the RV sites can be overlooked! Lots of deer walking around, tons of fun stuff to do.

Busy!  And awesome  

Our weekend started and ended rainy with cold/sunny days in the middle, but still always love going to FCF. Lots of hiking and views to take in. B loop is our favorite for camping (large sites that provide some separation/privacy and lots of shade). Broke down camp in heavy rain so it was nice to find hot coffee and a biscuit at the snack bar on the way out. Snack bar also has local craft beer on tap and does growler fills. The park has a General Store with basic grocery and camping/hiking supplies as well as a decent sized gift shop.   Bundles of wood for sale but if you talk with the park staff there is always free, cut up wood somewhere in the park for the taking from them clearing downed trees. 

Fall Colors

Campground is large but the sites are not on top of each other. There is a great general store that has everything you might need. If you love the outdoors, you will love the trails throughout the park.

Clean / slightly unlevel site

We celebrated Father’s Day at this beautiful park, which has been a favorite spot for years.  This was our first time camping with our motor home and we were not disappointed.  Large, shaded sites  with daily visits from the deer.  Great hiking, playgrounds, pool, something for everyone! Friendly staff, very clean.

Family Favorite 

Beautiful state park with 200+ sites. Most are just electric, and water. Plenty of bike riding, and hiking trails. Some sites are somewhat close together. They have a pool, snackbar, giftshop, and little store for your basic needs. Be sure to bring enough to eat, the closest Walmart is 45 minutes away.

Fall creek falls

We totally just stumbled upon this park, and we are so glad we did. We came to the area to visit Rock Island SP, but their campground was full, so we looked for the next closest option. The park itself is beautiful, and the campground was really nice.
They have multiple campgrounds. We stayed in B at site 78 and loved that it was on the backside with no one behind us. The sites were large with nice fire rings and picnic tables. The bathrooms and showers were clean and well-maintained. We would definitely camp here again. 

Great Park With a Really Nice Campground

**Campground Review:** Fall Creek Falls State Park is located in Spencer, TN. This is one of the best state parks I’ve been to- gorgeous waterfalls, miles of hiking trails, a great lake for kayaking, and multiple swimming holes are just a few of the offerings. We stayed in the B section, sites B50 and B51. Each site can accommodate at least 2 tents and 1 RV. Sites come equipped with electric hookups, fire rings, and water. The campsites are full of trees perfect for attaching hammocks and enjoying the shade. There are bathhouses with showers and toilets(some of the cleanest I’ve ever seen at a campground) located throughout each campground area, so all of the sites are close to a bathroom. The camp check-in office sells ice and firewood, but unfortunately the firewood they sold us was wet and we had a hard time getting a fire going. That was really the only negative experience we had- everything else was wonderful. There are far too many activities to try in one weekend, so we chose to hike the trail down to the base of Fall Creek Falls(the main waterfall). This hike was a little more intense than I was expecting, but it was beautiful- I’ve included pictures with the review. Warning- it’s very slippery, especially while being pulled by a very excited puppy! We also went to George Hole, a fantastic swimming hole right by the camping area. The water was pretty cold while we were there, but if you visit later in the summer I’m sure it would be perfect. Other highlights of our trip were kayaking at the lake, where you can rent canoes or kayaks or use your own($5 fee), and the awesome but scary swing bridge behind the nature center. I absolutely recommend visiting and camping at Fall Creek Falls State Park! 

  

**Gear Review: Grub Stick Deluxe Kit **

As a Ranger for the Dyrt, I sometimes get gear to review on my camping trips. For this trip, I reviewed the Grub Stick Deluxe Kit. The kit comes with 2 Handles, 2 Forks, 1 Grubcage, 1 Burgcage, 1 Grubtube, 1 Grubpocket, Silicone Trivet, Release Tool, Bacon Clip, Grabber, and a really nice bag. I like that the kit comes with 2 handles, as it allows both my husband and I to cook at the same time. We cooked several meals- hot dogs on the forks, bell peppers in the grubcage, pinapple rings in the burgcage, marshmallows on the forks, s’mores in the grubcage, crescent roll dough on both the grubpocket and the grubtube (which we filled with pie filling), and our favorite, barbecue tempeh in the burgcage. For those unfamiliar, tempeh is a fermented soybean patty that you can marinate and cook using countless methods. I steamed the tempeh for 10 minutes at home before our trip, and put it in a ziplock bag with barbecue sauce(homemade or store bought- whichever you prefer). We then cooked it over the fire using the burgcage for about 5 minutes on each side and it was absolutely delicious! Our other favorites were the pineapple rings and the bell peppers. Cooking the whole s’more, which Grub Stick has demonstrated on their Instagram, didn’t work out so well- the cracker burned, the chocolate melted everywhere, and the marshmallow didn’t roast. I recommend using the fork attachment to roast marshmallows the old fashion way. The only negative experience we had was with the burgcage- after a few uses the clasp where the cage closes became too loose, and we sadly lost a pineapple ring. I tried to squeeze it tight again with the gripper, but I think it will require pliers. We love our Grub Stick and definitely recommend it. It’s super lightweight and portable. I look forward to using it on future campouts!

Ranger Review: Grub Stick Deluxe Kit at Fall Creek Falls State Park

Enjoyed this park - very nice. The campsite was very clean and fairly easy to get around. I was pleasantly surprised to see all the play areas in each of the campground groupings.  Very nice setup for kids of all ages. There's a huge pool by the lake that you can pay to swim in (11 feet deep at one end). The staff here is very friendly and helpful. 

The one complaint I have with the park in general is lack of informational signs about the waterfalls - no warning that to get to certain waterfalls, involves climbing down/up trails that are nothing more then going up and over wet, slippery rocks (not the crushed gravel kind). I asked about this and they are working on getting more information out for this so that people who have health issues can decide whether to go or not. I did it but certainly wish I hadn't - it wasn't easy for someone who has had multiple knee surgeries and has severe asthma. Beyond more information, it would be nice if the handrail went the full length of the trail vs just half of it - that would help a lot! 

All in all - very worth the trip to visit and camp here.

Such a beautiful park.  Spacious sites. Lots of area to roam.  Wildlife abundant.   Hiking trails.  Scenic drives.  Lake sports. We will come back.

In addition to an awesome time checking out food and craft venders there are some awesome trails and overlooks. 
There are several campgrounds to pick from. We were in D which is best for small campers and tents. Some of these sites are really close together, others have a lot of space to set up. There is a nice group camp site in the trees and some secluded sites on the back loop. The showerhouse is a little old but functional. 
Fall Creek Falls is going through renovations and they have some new areas already opened for your enjoyment. Zip lines, a nice swimming pool, an amphitheater, swing bridges, awesome waterfall overlooks and some strenuous climbs that are worth the journey. 

Mountain Festival 

This park never disappoints!!! Very clean facilities. Breath taking views. Awesome adventure hiking trails!!!  A family favorite for sure. 

Love this park

The park offers several campgrounds than can accommodate RV's, tent camping and primitive campsites. There are water and electrical hookups at all sites except the primitive. There are bathhouses and even cabin rentals for those who prefer that. You can purchase ice, firewood and food at the camp store on property and there is also a place to do your laundry for a small fee. Each site offers a table and grill. All are drive up except the primitive sites. This park has the highest free falling waterfall (256 feet) East of the Mississippi River! There are plenty of activities and hiking to explore just visit the parks website for more information!

The Gorge

I camped here with a friend and our dogs. The park has 5 different camping loops plus backcountry campsites. We spent one night in loop B. The campsites have a picnic bench, a firepit and a lantern pole. We also had electricity and a water spigot. We stayed in B62. It was more designed for an RV or Camper than a tent, but we found space on the side to set up our tents.
The bathhouse was decent. 
The state park has a lot of amenities. There is a general store, just in case you forgot something. They also have a nice visitor and nature center and an outfitter store. 
If you are not into hiking, you can go fishing, boating, golfing or zip lining. 
If you are not in the mood to cook, you can visit the snack bar. They have pizza, sandwiches and burgers. But the actual restaurant and the Inn are still under construction until 2022.
If you like hiking, the park offers a lot of different trails. They have shorter ones near the nature center amd longer overnight trails with campsites. Some of the trails are very strenuous like the cable trail. When we visited, the swinging bridge was closed due to construction. 
It is a beautiful piece of nature and we really enjoyed our stay. However it can be very crowded on the weekends and in peak season. 

A great place for outdoor activities.

We stayed one as the primitive camp area. It was clean with scattered trees. Our site was pretty sloped, so when the site description says that, know there is no level ground! The park was full! The trails were nice. The scenery beautiful. The gorge swimming hole was a hit with my daughter and dog. Dogs are allowed. Bath house was clean. There is a swimming pool but we didn’t get over there. 

Beautiful

Many reasons, actually. There’s tons of hiking trails, plenty of water to play on, lots of great day use areas, and a general store with everything you might need. 

There’s the reason it’s the most visited park in Tennessee

We had a great time in section B, site 122.  We have a 34 ft fifth wheel and had plenty of space.  Love the onsite grill and the excellent hiking trails.  The only downside is that the sites are very unlevel, even when the description says level.  

My expectations were high but they were not met. The tent sites in camp C were the worst I’ve seen in a TN state park. They are on top of each other and on a horrible incline. They are tiny and I would not recommend. The RV sites in the other camp areas seemed like better options. They had 2 trails down which had both of the bridges and we had no idea till we got there. We enjoyed finding smaller trails that we found as to the bigger over populated ones advertised. 

Beautiful park. Tent sights lacking

We definitely enjoyed our visit. Sites in Campground c were very tight and in a field. Many of the tent sites were on a huge hill. We would stay in a different area if we returned. It was very busy on the trails but we were able to find some less traveled sites. 

A great park

This is a beautiful park! Tons of wildlife, waterfalls and swimming holes to play in, lots of great hiking. They have an amazing ropes course, that I highly recommend. We did it with my kids, 10 and 8, and had a blast. There is great dining, retail stores and the people are really nice. They have a golf course, but we did not play. An overall great time. 

BUT...the only reason I’m not giving it a 5 star, is our camp site. We stayed in campground C, which is so packed together that I had to get people to move their cars just to back my popup in. It rained one day and a bunch of mud washed down into our site. We drove around campground A, B, and D and wow!! We felt gipped because they were beautiful! Spread out, playgrounds, shaded sites and open fields. If you go, don’t stay in C if at all possible. 

Would have given 5 stars but...

Fall Creek Falls is a beautiful park. The campsite was nice and spacious, and the kids loved having swings right by our site. There a several nice hikes, waterfalls and swimming holes. There wasn’t much water in the falls when we were there last, but it was still beautiful. There is also a riding stable close by. The kids loved it! I got to ride Leonard the horse who looked a bit like the Wonky Donkey. 😂

We love this State Park!

I moved to Falls Creek Falls to get away from Rain and storms to the Southeast.  I have a small Motorcycle camper and had a friend along with his.  the electric sites were a bit expensive for not needing hook ups.  30 Bucks a night but we put both campers on one site.  There are lots of facilities and the bathhouses are very clean and maintained.  There are stores onsite for knickknacks and soft supplies.  A restaurant/grill that has some pretty good food.  Firewood is available for 10 bucks a bundle.  It was Poplar wood and very green but you just have to know a bit about firewood and dig through the pile to find dry.    All the roads are paved and the sites are somewhat level.  The falls are worth seeing.  Even though I like more primitive surroundings, I will probably stay there again.

Was a good place to stay.  Convinient to some really Preatty watter falls

We stayed here for 3 nights in section C, was a great experience. Only complaint but not really a complaint, would be the shower/bathroom. Little out dated but works just fine! Hot water worked perfectly. Sites were a little close to eachother but that didn’t bother us any. The hiking was absolutely breathtaking. Tons to do. Gift shop and welcome center was very nice. I would most definitely come to this park again, going to start planning for next year! 

Absolutely amazing views

We had a great time at Fall Creek Falls when we visited in October 2020. The park is very well maintained and the campsites are nicely spaced. We were supposed to stay in campsite A26, but had a really hard time locating it when we arrived after dark. We ended up staying in A25, which was a little difficult to get our 30' travel trailer into due to trees surrounding the site and the access road. We ultimately learned from a park ranger that A26 had its own service road, which we would never have found without the direction from the ranger. The time of year was beautiful to visit and the hike down to the base of the falls was short enough to do prior to our check-out time and long enough to help get our kids' energy out before the next leg of our trip. It was a truly beautiful waterfall. We would definitely go back.

Clean Family Friendly Campground

Really nice sites and facilities and super helpful staff. Great hiking trails and the falls are beautiful. A great park for a relaxing get away. 

Great TN State Park

Absolutely incredible park. Very busy but easy to spread out. We stayed at campsite e217 and it was a pull through and quite spacious. Bath house was clean. The 2 regular stalls had very low toilets with no separate seat. The park office and store was well equipped and was open to 10pm every night!

There was a fun little "village" on the grounds as well with a general store and outfitter. There was a restaurant but was closed due to coronavirus. I wish we found the store first because trekking poles would have been great on the trails.

THE TRAILS. Words cannot do them justice  the hike down to the base of the falls was slow going down. There is a railing but this is where trekking poles would have been a benefit. But oh was it worth it.

Amazing

I really liked this campground, it is clean and there is plenty of space between campsites. You can get firewood and ice at the visitor center, some great scenery and hikes in the area. We will be back!

Great camping with some space!

Fall creek falls is one of the best recreational areas in Tennessee. The park is very large and has so much to do. The falls are amazing, and it’s a moderate hike down to the base. Sometimes the falls are just a small trickle and sometimes they are flowing, depending on rainfall amounts. There are also smaller falls with pools that you can swim in, and those are next to the parking area. There’s a great amount of wildlife in the park, the deer were everywhere, and they are not afraid of humans. They will walk directly through your campsite. The park also has a lake, golf course, pool, playground, great biking, so much to do. The campground is large and has walk-in tent sites and RV sites with hookups. The sites are well spaced and wooded, so even if the campground is full, you don’t feel overcrowded. I always enjoy camping here and I highly recommend Fall Creek Falls.

Roaming Deer

We were missing the camp life, so we headed over to Fall Creek Falls for a night. We stayed in loop B and it was almost empty. We stayed in site 82, as it was close to the bathroom (but also had a sewer hookup) and roomy. Be advised, this site is next to a small, open field. When high winds occur, you'll want to have everything tied down tight! It was a pleasant trip regardless of the harsh winds. The waterfalls were beautiful as always! 

Fun Winter Camping


This is a fabulous state park.  Many campground loops - we stayed in site 69B in March 2021. All beautiful sites.  We prefer campgrounds with trailheads straight from the campground and this one has both hiking trails (off campground  loop C) and biking routes (40 mile route from FCFSP on Ride With GPS - Sequatchie Valley Scenic bike way).  Awesome!  The falls are beautiful with a steep, boulder-y climb down to the lower falls (and back up!). Campsites are nice with good spacing and trees.  Bathroom and shower facilities nice and clean with good air circulation (helpful in pandemic times).   We only stayed two nights but could be happy staying here a week or more.   Lots to do and see! We will return.  

Fabulous state park

This is a huge state park!  It seems overwhelming and crowded at first.  The campgrounds are massive, but the campsites are spread out just enough to make you feel like you are in a small campground.  Do some hiking!!!!  After a short hike away from the roads and you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere.  The views are spectacular!  We were there in April where the weather was perfect!

Must do!

This state park is one of the best maintained and managed I have ever stayed in.  There are also many activities and beautiful scenery to take in!  I stayed in the B loop camping area.  This loop seems to be preferable to loop C which has sites much closer together.   The Nature Center and Cane Creek Falls (near nature center) are must-sees.  There are many other waterfalls in the park as well as hiking and mountain biking trails.  Also a big lake for fishing and kayaking.  The showers/bathrooms in the B loop are not luxurious, but, are clean and nice.

One of the best state parks I have visited

Backpacked the trail for about 16 miles for a one night and two day trip! The trail is well marked and very secluded once you get past the main tourist attraction. If you're new to backpacking, this is the perfect place to get used to hiking with weight on your back for 8+ hours a day! 

Perfect Place for Beginner Backpacking

One of the cleanest most beautiful campgrounds I’ve ever been to. Awesome hiking for all skill levels. The waterfalls and swimming holes are what most people come to see. The suspension bridge was AWESOME!

Fall Creek Falls

Had a great time backpacking the upper loop trail. First time backpacking and this was an easy beginners trip. Not much in terms if falls for upper loop but the campsites have decent distance between and two out houses. Lots of ticks on us and the dogs with bug spray so be aware. Easy beach to fill water for filtration from creek behind campsite 2.

Fall Creek Falls State Park is absolutely stunning! We were in Campground B and our site was gorgeous - it was a slight incline, but nothing a couple blocks under the tires couldn't easily fix. Our site was surrounded by trees and felt very private. We enjoyed a hike from our campsite to the top and bottom of Fall Creek Falls, it was not an easy hike down (nor back up) but it was totally worth it. Very pet friendly - our golden retriever enjoyed making many new friends at the campsite and on our hike. The scenic loop was awesome, especially enjoyed the short hike to Piney Creek Falls overlook and the suspension bridge. It was so nice having a general store on site to run in quick and grab the things I forgot at home. We cannot wait to visit this park again and explore the areas around it.

Absolutely Stunning!

We had an amazing time at FCF!  The scenery is amazing.  If you like waterfalls, this is your place!  So many different places in the park to visit and some are very easily accessible for people with limited mobility.  Several hikes get you closer to the falls, but you can see several without a huge strenuous hike.  It is one of the best state parks we’ve been to in this area.  So many things to do.  As for the campground (and why I couldn’t bring myself to give 5 stars) the descriptions and pictures of the sites need to be more accurate.  As with all state park campgrounds, it’s not going to be perfectly level or uniform, but I spent days trying to pick the right site for us and our needs.  Looked through all the pictures, researched so many spots and finally arrived on a spot in A loop, A13.  It mentions “slight incline” and the picture description even showed a truck and camper on the site and it looked very manageable.  We backed in to the site and knew immediately we were going to have issues.  The site was very long, plenty of room there, but there was no way we were going to get our 5th wheel level short of all 4 tires being off the ground.  We went back to the visitor center in a last stitch effort (before hooking up and driving 3 hours back home) to see if there was something else we could do and they graciously moved us to an unused host site in loop B.  It was a tremendous improvement.  We walked around and find several
People had also had issues getting their rig leveled etc.  When you are booking these sites remotely, it’s really important that the descriptions are as detailed and as accurate as possible.  As mentioned before, we are so thankful for the accommodations they made for us because it was a trip I’m so glad we were able to have, but I’m hopeful that the descriptions on the website will be updated especially or people who are relying solely on what the website says to pick a site that will work for their camper.

Also of important note.  Be sure to enter the park via the south entrance if towing anything.  Our GPS was directing us via the north entrance and noticed it looked a little treacherous.  Did some research on that and found it to be true...  switchbacks, no shoulder, very dangerous for anyone towing.  South entrance was only a few minutes farther for us and very easy to travel.

Beautiful place!

We booked 5 days at FCF SP and enjoyed every minute of it. The waterfalls are spectacular and most of the streams you can swim in and just relax! Stayed in site #C175 and is very quite. Sites C172 -174 are nice and secluded more than the others. Will definitely be coming back here again! 


Awesome State Park

The staff was friendly and the park was beautiful. There is a snack shop which is delicious and a general store which was very helpful when I forgot something and thought I would have to go to Walmart. Campsite C is alittle cramped so beware if you have a big tent. Beautiful trails, and don’t miss out on the pontoon tour!

Awesome experience 

We booked a last minute reservation (meaning 3 months ago these days) and were so excited to finally camp here.  We had read that campgrounds A and E were the best.  We thought we had lucked up with an open spot in A17.  The description said it was moderately sloped. We thought, “it can’t be too bad at moderate”.  We were so wrong!!! We
Have a LevelMatePRO, and at BEST, we were off 11 inches left to right and 8 inches front to back.  Many of the campsites are uneven, but this one is TERRIBLE.  The state park is beautiful. Just be prepared to level and do your research!

Beautiful area but terrible campsite

Spent 5 days at Fall Creek Falls and have nothing negative to say about our stay.  Our site was great, about 100ft from a very nice bath house, which we tended to use daily since our site did not have a sewer hook up.  The dump site was very convenient to access as we used it on the way out of the park. The camping areas are great for walking dogs and just getting out, deer tend to live in the campsite areas as we kept seeing the same does with their fawns daily.  The hiking is top notch and we did a different trail every day.  There are also opportunities to rent canoes, kayaks, paddleboats and such from the marina at decent prices.  The general store is well stocked and has convenient store prices on most things except ice; ice is cheap at only $2 a bag which is the same as Walmart.  Make sure your gas tank is somewhat full when you get close to the park as there are no gas stations around and if you come south from I40 on 111, be prepared for a 2 mile uphill stretch of 8 and 9% grade!  It just seems to go on forever, but the park is worth it!

Love the Falls!

Were in site B53 in a motorhome 36ft and can not get level. Description was slightly slopped but we had to back all the way up off the pad to fire pit to almost be level. We super close to bath house which is nice. Camp grounds are clean and we have full hookups which is nice but the 50amp service doesn't work 🤔 

Beautiful spot to camp and explore

We love Fall Creek Falls as it is very close to our home and it is a beautiful state park. We stayed in site A21 on a crowded weekend, however it didn’t feel crowded to us. A21 is a great site with plenty of space for our teardrop and screen room. It is a very short walk to the bathroom/showers and also very close to the playground which was great for us with a toddler. The site was well shaded and fairly level. The bathrooms are older and could use some updating but they are clean and serve the purpose. The park actually has good WiFi in most areas, a store nearby with many grocery items, and some great hiking trails. Fall Creek Falls is a favorite for our family!!



Beautiful camping in Tennessee

Excellent state park with multiple waterfalls and trails! Campground C was clean and well kept! Primitive sites have picnic table, fire ring and grill! Bathhouse is nice with warm showers! Across from primitive site 6 is the trail leading to Cane creek falls and Cascades! Also the suspension bridge and nature center right next to them! After finishing with the Cane creek falls head back around and follow the trails with beautiful scenery to fall creek falls! 

Excellent State Park! 

We stayed Memorial Weekend of 2021 for a total of 4 nights. Tons to do at one of Tennessee’s top state parks. We hiked Fall Creek Falls trail, visited the nature center, walked the suspension bridge, went to the Cane Creek Falls overlook, swam in the Cascades, ate pizza at the snack bar, watched people catch stocked trout at George Hole, and played on the playground. The weather was a little damp, but we didn’t let that stop us!

Tons To Do

We went during the Folk Festival.  The campground was full.   We enjoyed our stay.  The campsite we stayed at says moderate.  If you stay on the paved part, it would be hard to level.  But, it had a gravel area you could back into and it wasn’t so bad.  Only complaint was our fire pit ended up being on the wrong side of the way we parked the camper.  



Tent-camped midweek on E210. Lots of open spaces in camp. Tent spot was on level gravel RV pad. Air mattress helped with gravel. Site had water and electricity. Showers were clean with hot water. Be sure to lock up food. We were visited by five raccoons nightly. They were able to get into secured plastic bin we left out. Great hiking around falls. Friendly staff at Visitor Center and Nature Center. Well stocked general store. We will be back.

Nice tent camping area

We stayed here in May while enroute to Memphis. We pulled a small trailer through the campgrounds and stayed at site A3. Site A3 is a pull thru site, that's labeled at the exit of the site, but you have to drive thru the entire campground to enter and there's no label at the entrance of the site; when you exit the site, you have to drive thru the campground unless you want to drive reverse to the one way sign. We also had a tent on the site and we were able to find a semi flat area. All of the sites were full and some large families were having gatherings along the field. The facilities were a short walk away and were well maintained. 

Spring Camping

I was able to squeeze in a last minute campsite for the end of September.  We were at A4.  The site was labeled as slight incline.  This site might be ok for smaller campers, but we had a little trouble with our 35ft camper.  Also, this site is at the beginning of the campsite and slopes down a hill… so a lot of the vehicles and bikes go faster at that spot.  Lots of wildlife and we walked to the falls.


Fall Creek Falls campsite A

Had a good time. Falls were beautiful but since you can drive and park by the overlook, be ready for a lot of people and dogs. If you like hiking, the trails were very low trafficked, and well maintained. 

We stayed in the D campground (which is the closest walking distance to the Falls), however, campsites D180-210 are already close enough together (like your normal campgrounds), BUT when you add the elevation factor, some sites feel right in top of each other. 

We have a truck camper and booked the last site available, which was a pull through in between other pull through sites (D192), but I wouldn’t book any of the pull through sites in D, unless you are booking adjacent ones for guests.

Also, 192 may be the smallest site with the worst layout, so take my review with a grain of salt. For instance, the hookups are on the opposite side as other, so I have to face my camper the opposite way, seemingly sharing our firepit and grill areas with our neighbors. This may be great if you know your neighbors, but not ideal for introverts like us (see photo).

Don’t get me wrong; we still had a good time, but the noise levels from other sites having a good time will encroach on your good time as well, making it feel less like camping, and more like a tailgate. 

If I could do it over, I’d book more in advance and book a back-in site; one that isn’t right next to the road, or without too many other sites nearby. Sites along the same line as D204+ (same side as the bathrooms) seem to be the best sites. 

Lastly, the facilities were but excellent: Campground D had small, but clean bathrooms and showers, and the main Guest Center is super close, with firewood, camping supplies, souvenirs, etc.

Nice campground, noisy guests

Falls Creek Falls park is excellent for natural beauty. Wonderful sites, trails, activities for all ages. Campground is good. Few full hook up sites. Gas is a bit of a drive, so fill up before entering the park.

Wonderful Area

We stayed here for a week at the beginning of May and loved it. Quiet spot with easy to access trails around the campgrounds for our two dogs. The roads into the park are fun with some winding roads. Our smaller class C (24ft) handled it just fine but I could see some larger trucks having a slow time if they followed our path which was Hwy30 from Spencer. 

The amenities are great, cute camp stores, shops &amp; restaurants. Showers were clean with excellent water pressure. Some sits have sewer hookup but outs was just water &amp; electric. Dump stations are scattered throughout and easy to access however. 

Quickly made our list of parks we’d like to revisit in the future. 

Great overall park with plenty to do

Loved our site that backed up to a large field with playground!!! Perfect for families with kids that want to play while still having access to your rig. AMAZING hiking and views of the falls! Well worth the hike to the floor of the falls. 

Family friendly!

There is so much to do as soon as you get there. Plenty of hikes and water activities. The falls are beautiful with so many risky lookout points. Will definitely be back!

Soo much to do

There are a lot of very different camp sites. It’s good to do your research to see for the site is laid out. Some are drive through and others are back in. It is very close to excellent hiking. Bring your bikes to discover more of the park.

Great hiking

Absolutely loved this park! Our site was an ADA and it was excellent. Lots of trails, waterfalls, and a great nature center. 



Great Park with impressive water falls!

Beautiful park with lots of activities for kids. The hiking trails were well maintained but vary in difficulty (easy to moderate; side trails to overlooks steep and rocky). Over 200 rv sites, most are close to each other; plan ahead to get a good site. We reserved a year in advanced and at that time no full hook ups were available. The park is a top visited park in TN - it’s crowded.

Wonderful place, hot water, clean sites. They have a daily trash service and several stores to visit 

Love love love 

Our spot was near bathroom and the area was clean.  Good hikes nearby.  I had good cell reception as well with Verizon so was able to watch a little college football on Saturday.m
