Known as the “Gateway to the Laurel Highlands,” Pennsylvania’s Ohiopyle State Park consists of approximately 20,500 acres of the state’s finest and most rugged natural beauty. A quick drive from Pittsburgh and Morgantown, WV, this park can get you back to nature conveniently. The million annual visitors the park gets act as proof of just how convenient this state park is. 

Camping at Ohiopyle State Park offers campers 200 campsites at the Kentuck campground, with flush toilets, warm showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and some electric hook-ups. Yurts and cottages are available as well for those looking for a more comfortable stay in the great Allegheny passage. 

When visiting this state park, campers and adventurers will both notice the mighty Youghiogheny [yawki-gay-nee] River flowing through the center of the park. Capitalizing on this, the park offers whitewater boating opportunities for all experience levels. For those looking to stay on dry land, however, hiking, biking, horseback riding, hunting and rock climbing are all available in the summer months. In the colder months, cross-country skiing and snowmobile riding are available across the park.

Kentuck Campground — Ohiopyle State Park

Very large park with a variety of campsites ranging from tent, 20/30 amp, 50 amp, and yurts. Price is the same for all electric sites, regardless of amperage. There is a 40-foot maximum vehicle length allowed in the campground– not a problem for our 17-foot van but the staffer who checked us in remarked that many people come in with larger rigs trying to squeeze in and are unable to. We had no problem securing a site with no reservation on a Monday evening after Labor Day. Very close to two Frank Lloyd Wright properties– Kentuck Knob and the more widely known Falling Waters. Other things to do in or near the park include whitewater rafting, rail trail biking, hiking, zip-lining and touring Laurel Caverns. The nearby town of Ohiopyle has many outfitters and several restaurants. The sites are all located on roads leading off the main road; we stayed in a 20/30amp site on Cherry Road (Site 49). It was right next to the bathroom which was good and bad. Good for proximity but bad because we could hear the hum quite clearly. Also, the door to the women’s room would hit you in the rear quite forcefully unless you held onto it (it took me three times to remember to do this)! There was a dishwashing sink in the women’s room (and I’m assuming in the men’s room?); it was very clean, but the only downside was having to do the dishes by myself! Alcohol is prohibited. Only certain areas allow pets. Only one garbage/recycling station outside of the campground. Wood and ice are available 24/7 on the honor system– very nice not to have to wait until a host is on duty to get what you need. Quiet hours 9 pm-8 am, a bit longer than most campgrounds but except for some sites with campfires still burning with people talking, it was very quiet in this campground. Surprisingly strong cell signal for being deep in the woods.

The calm of the waters

The Kentucky campground at Ohiopyle State Park in Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania is the most convenient campground to stay at if you are a private boater who is rafting or kayaking the Lower Youghigeny River. It is located ½ way between put in and take out right on the road that goes between the two. I have camped here MANY times. I always travel with my dog, so I can only provide information about the facilities on Ginko, Cherry and Juniper Roads and the sites that fall within the 'Pet-Friendly' side of the campground - which is Ivy Road and Hickory Road.

Most convenient, being the operative words here and the whole reason to stay here, really. That being said - it is a very nice campground - it just has some draw backs. I have broken down the 'Good' and the 'Bad' (in my opinion). For some, the things I have listed as 'bad' would be on their 'good' list - so take it for what it is worth - advice from someone who likes to paddle and relax with an adult beverage around a campfire at the end of the day. I don't want to throw a loud obnoxious camping party, I just want to be able to sit around the campfire and enjoy a few beverages with my friends and talk in a normal voice to share our stories from the day.

The Good:  Large tall shade trees throughout the entire campground. I cannot think of a single campsite that is actually in full sun. Nice fire pits and picnic tables. Clean bathrooms and showers - and lot's of them (although that being said, they could use another shower facility down at the end of Hickory Road - if you are in Hickory sites 160 - 175 it's a far walk to a shower). Hot water for showers seems pretty plentiful - it's been few and far between that it has run out or not been available when I needed it. There are large sinks outside all bathrooms for washing dishes. There are additional potable water taps throughout the campground as well. There is an RV dump station. There are dumpsters for trash and recycling. Dogs ARE now allowed at this campground (in designated areas - and there are a lot of them) - in years gone by dogs were not allowed. There are a lot of flat/level campsites.

The Mediocre:  There are also quite a few campsites that are not so flat or level. You cannot tell very well when making your reservations which are flat/level and which are not. 

The Bad: 'Quiet hours' start at 9pm. The Rangers are ridiculously vigilant about 'Quiet'. You literally need to almost whisper around the campfire in order to not arouse the interest of the Rangers which frequently patrol the campground on both foot and by vehicle. As soon as you arouse their suspicion by 'talking too loud', they make it perfectly clear that they can exercise their right to search your campsite and destroy/remove anything that is not allowed and/or kick you out.

This campground is in a PA state park. Alcohol is not allowed in any PA State Parks. Certainly there are ways around that - using cups and mugs, etc. - but you have to know before you go to do that. It is obvious by the content of the trash in the dumpsters and recycling bins that NO ONE follows this rule. So what you then need to know is that the Rangers are vigilant about patrolling the campground for people violating the alcohol rule. (refer to the info about Quiet hours above.)

Bottom line is: 
If you are traveling alone or in a very small group/just your family and are looking for somewhere clean, quiet and convenient to camp near the Lower Youghigeny River - this is a great place for you. 

If you've got a decent sized group, that will need multiple campsites and you want to be able to hang out, talk, drink without worrying about hiding it from the Rangers and enjoy yourselves later than 9pm, you might want to look for somewhere else to stay. 

If you've got a large and potentially loud group of people who want to party - don't even consider staying here. (My suggestions for that would be Tall Oaks in nearby Farmington or Scarlett Knob on the other side of Ohiopyle.)

The most convenient camping if you are paddling the Lower Youghigeny River

Ohiopyle is pretty much a camping family's delight.  Aside from the rock water slide, which is burned into the kid's memories, there's great, easy hiking trails and a pet-friendly campsite.  Late spring is my favorite time to go because the water is at its highest and everything is lush and green!

I've rented cabins up here, biked, hiked, and swam! So exciting and such friendly people and great food everytime!

Lots of places to play in the water here. The campground isn't right on the water but it's shady and lovely. Clean, friendly caretakers, nice quiet campground (or at least as quiet as can be when filled up!). 

Lovely little green park 

First, I must say, we did not anticipate camping, hiking or rafting in Pennsylvania. The plan was to camp and hike throughout West Virginia, but when we visited Pathfinder outdoor retailer in Morgantown, WV the staff encouraged us to check out Ohiopyle, while we were so close.

Traveling to Ohiopyle, PA from Coopers Rock State Forest, WV…the drive was enjoyable and took less than an hour. Our plan was to visit and drive back and resume camping at CRSF. Upon arrival, we were so stunned and enamored by the beauty of the area…we quickly secured a campsite in Kentuck…then drove back to CRSF and tore down camp.

Kentuck Campground is a very nice campground, the sites are plentiful, and though there are many…there is enough foliage that separate campsites that it feels somewhat private. (That is, until discourteous fellow car campers selfishly disregard quiet hours…but hey, that can…and often does…happen anywhere). One gripe at several campgrounds we visited on this monthly foray…it all seemed to be self-governing…no rangers or enforcement…possibly due to limited funding…I found it stressful. That's the only negative…everything else was…in a word a…blast!

Ohiopyle is a trendy, hip little town…like Boulder East. Running smack dab through the center of town is the Youghiogheny River…Yough for short. A picturesque waterfall, numerous outdoor retailers, bicycle &amp; raft rentals, peaceful trails and a sweet, cutting edge visitor/nature center.

You could easily spend a week here and not exhaust all there is to see and do. The town is tiny, so you cannot miss the plethora of outfitters down every street. Of the numerous cool outfitters, we chose Wilderness Voyageurs across the river, over the tracks and to the right. Time and finances limited us to a "family friendly" float self-guided raft down the Middle Yough…laced with minimal Class 1 and 2 rapids, which I would classify as riffles. The float took three hours, was relaxing, serene and full of solitude.

The Ferncliff Trail loops around the inside of the Yough as it does a near 360 in town. Gentle terrain along the falls and then through moss covered forest.

Just outside town as you climb the hill, to the left is Sliding Rock. Get there early to get a parking spot…and then look forward to having some serious liquid fun. A natural water slide extends around 100 feet as it winds through the rock. Wear sturdy shorts and shirt…I'd also recommend solid footwear…its fun but it is still rock.

As you journey further up the mountain toward Kentuck campground, Cucumber Falls is on the right. Again, get there early for one of the few parking spaces to walk down to the falls. In early August, the falls were not flowing heavy so it wasn't as spectacular as it would be after rains or in the spring. If you are looking to take photos, you will contend with people wading under the falls later in the day.

The local outfitters are a wealth of information for places to go.

From the campground trails head mostly straight down the mountain to the river or to the Great Allegheny Passage mult-use trail…that also runs through Ohiopyle. So give yourself time to climb them, as there are many switchbacks…pretty much straight up…but doable.

Bottom line…Pathfinder staff tips were spot on and we had a memorable time. I gave four stars for Kentuck Campground. I give 5 stars plus…for Ohiopyle!

Great Location

From white water kayaking and guided rafting trips, natural waterslides, to hiking and biking trails - this park has it all! This beautiful park has something to offer for everyone. The campground is nice with several camping options such as tent, camper, yurt and cabin rentals. They also have hot showers, electric options, and pet friendly areas. They have several seasonal events and festivals that are fun for the whole family. 
Must respect quiet hours here, rangers patrol frequently. For those who want to have a good time and be noisy and share some adult beverages Scarlett Knob campground May be a better option.

I absolutely love this place! i make sure to visit Ohiopyle state park every time I'm in or near PA! This place has so many miles of wonderful hiking trails through the lush green hillsides. There are so many little hidden water falls to gawk at, as well as a natural water slide located in the river ( can be a little violent during the spring when the water is high). The village near the state park is wonderful as well filled with nice friendly people, and multiple little shops and tasty cafes.  This place is also awesome for rafting and kayaking, we have used multiple tour raft guide companies, and they were all very helpful, and patient with all of the first time rafters, and definitely put safety first! One of my favorite places in the entire state of PA!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE

If you love seeing forest rangers, no alcoholic beverages, and being in bed by 9pm, then this place is for you!
I went here a few months ago, and after seeing other reviews, i had read that this was a quiet relaxing camping site, however once i got there, i realized that the camp ground is so quiet, because you have a few fun sucking park rangers out there telling you to quiet down, and enforcing the quiet time at 9pm (usually most other camp grounds have quiet time at 10) I was also yelled at for having a beer ( note that my group was not even loud, or drunk (all of these rules would have made sense if we were in a loud and drunken state, but we were just relaxing and having a beer with dinner) ) beyond that, the lay out of the camp ground was weird, and finding one of the outhouses was pretty much like playing hide and seek, they were difficult to locate. The water spigots were tricky as well, because it seemed like half of them didn't even work. The Ohiopyle area is so beautiful, I will surely be back for the scenery, however, i will make sure that I am not staying in this camp ground again.  

Great if you want a boring camping trip

Stayed here with 10 other people. We had room for ten tents, fire pit, tons of camp chairs. Right next to hiking trail. Flush toilets, running water, easy to find. Parking spot. Well maintained.

Giant campground

We camped at [Kentuck Campground](http://www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/OhiopyleStatePark/Pages/Stay.aspx) (site 192) two weekends before the typical summer camping season (2 weeks before Memorial Day), and I was honestly extremely disappointed in the campground, though part of that frustration is probably more appropriately aimed at the state park system as a whole, and their lack of communication.

Prior to reserving the two campsites (we have a pop-up, and we were camping with my parents, who use a tent), I had called the Kentuck campground park office to ensure the campground was actually open, as the reservation system was very confusing (for this park only - I’ve used the state reservation system more times that I can count). There were special notices at the bottom of the site’s page stating that certain campground facilities were closed, and a conflicting message on the reservation site’s page for the campground - which also mentioned a detour that was necessary for ‘big rig’ campers traveling to the campground. I called the office, spoke with a woman who assured me that the campground was open on the weekends (not during the week), but there was a paving project going on and only the largest bath house near the main entrance was open - cool, no problem, that was the closest one to our camp sites anyway. I booked the sites.

No one - not either website or the woman whom I spoke to - mentioned that the main road to the campground from [Ohiopyle](http://www.discoverohiopyle.com/) was also closed due to a separate paving project. This unanticipated road closure with the typically convoluted PA road system detour - coupled with the fact that everyone in the town of Ohiopyle was telling visitors to the area that the campground was fully closed - infuriated my father and husband so much that we almost turned around and drove back home. After finding a local park ranger and getting detailed directions for how to navigate the 30-minute detour (because… Pennsylvania.), we finally arrived at the campground, along with the other 3 cars that had also frustratingly swarmed around the poor park ranger in town for the same reason.

The campground itself was buggy, not well maintained, and covered in poison ivy. The bathhouses themselves (which were almost all open, unlike what I was told on the phone) were great. The roads were torn up due to the paving project, and the playground area did not look to be maintained. I understand that paving projects need to take place, and that it was the best time of year to do them (several weeks prior to Memorial Day when prime time begins) - I don't fault them for that.

Bottom line is that [Ohiopyle](http://www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/OhiopyleStatePark/Pages/default.aspx) is one of the premier outdoor destinations around the Pittsburgh area, and the state park (and additional forests and related state parks nearby) are fantastic in every way - and I expected a state park campground that matched the area. Kentuck is not it!

Poor communication regarding road closures

This state park review is of the state park itself, not the related [Kentuck campground](http://www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/OhiopyleStatePark/Pages/Stay.aspx). We have stayed at Kentuck, and I have written a separate review of the campground itself. I also wanted to post a review of the park, however, because we have visited many times and it’s one of our favs!

[Ohiopyle](http://www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/OhiopyleStatePark/Pages/default.aspx) is a well-known location to any outdoor enthusiast in the Pittsburgh area, in fact it’s probably the most popular destination within a few hours of the city. There are great hiking trails including the [Laurel Highlands hiking trail](https://wilderness-voyageurs.com/ohiopyle/laurel-highlands-hiking-trail/) (70+ miles) which is popular with backpackers, fantastic white-water rafting opportunities on ‘the Yough’, and the [Great Allegheny Passage or ‘GAP’ biking trail](https://gaptrail.org/) (150+ miles from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, MD) runs right through town. In the winter, you’re near the [best ski mountains](http://www.7springs.com/) in the Pittsburgh area, and many of the hiking trails become snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails. No matter the season, there really is something for everyone if you like being outdoors. The town of [Ohioyle](http://www.discoverohiopyle.com/) itself is also a cute (though very small) area to spend some time, with a couple of nice outfitters, mostly focused on white water rafting and kayaking. [Paddler’s Pizza](https://www.ohiopylebakery.com/the-pizza-shoppe.html) and the nearby [bakery](https://www.ohiopylebakery.com/menu.html) + [chocolate / candy shop](http://www.ohiopylecandycompany.com/) make for great stops after a hike, bike or paddle, or if you just want to pick up some picnic stuff and head down to the waterfront in town for a relaxing lunch.

Something I didn’t know until the spring of this year (after heading down to this area for years) is how close it is to another gem: the [Youghiogeny River Lake and dam area](https://www.recreation.gov/recreationalAreaDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&amp;recAreaId=412&amp;agencyCode=70902) (about 15 minutes outside of town, up the road towards Baughman’s Rocks). This is a _beautiful_ lake for boating or kayaking with great fishing. It’s a little weird to find, as you have to take a side road (there are signs pointing the way to the lake) and you actually end up driving _on top of_ the dam itself (which is crazy! great view though) into the parking area on the other side where the boat launch and beach area is. The dam outflow area (which is in a separate location closer to the main road) is cold water release and offers some of the best trout fishing in the greater Pittsburgh area, along with the resulting start of the Youghiogeny River.

In general, this area is one of the most relaxing, outdoor-focused locations in the greater Pittsburgh area, with a ton of stuff to see and do!

Beautiful state park with lots to do all year long

My boyfriend and I took our puppy golden retriever on his first camping trip here. We did 8 miles of hiking in one day and didn’t want to stop! The views were amazing. Lots of waterfalls and massive valleys. The other people we met on the trails were so friendly. The campsite itself was very well kept, spacious and safe. I love that they have dog-friendly areas.

We also loved that the cute downtown area was a short walk away.

We loved the falls, you could even go down them but looked a little rough lol. You could spend a week here just going through all the trails. Many different levels of trails as well! Loved it!

ohiopyle has so much to offer. The state park is very big and has fantastic facilities. We camped at some of the hike-in sites which were really level and nicely wooded, while still being within an easy walk to the bathrooms/showers. You have to check out the rail trail for biking, walking, or running and highly recommend the white water rafting trip if you can do it. Some good rock climbing in this area too.

There is anything imaginable to do up here from biking/hiking to amazing geology and fossils to whitewater rafting/kayaking all the way to camping in all forms. We stayed at one of the walk-in campsites and it was the perfect mix of convienient yet secluded. Tons of wildlife and nature for any interest. Be sure to check out Cucumber Falls and the natural water slides! Some absolutely amazing geology there and stunning views!

A little bit of everything

This campground was really animal friendly. They have certain camping areas for dogs. The showers/bathrooms were only a short walk away. The park and trails were fairly close also. Only reason this does not get a complete 5 Star is because at our campsite (176) you could hear a generator or pump all the time.

Great site, level and not far from the GAP trail (great Allegheny pass). Fit our yurt shaped tent perfectly, and the bathhouses were close to each site. Definately plan to return.

Lots of fun

The campground and surrounding area is hilly and wooded. Very beautiful and friendly. Nearby rafting is amazing! The sites are roomy. They have dog friendly sites and suprisingly it was very quiet in that area! Frank Lloyd Wrights Falling Water is close by and so are natual water slides! There is a very steep inclined road to access campground. If towing there are alternate directions and on their website.

Roomy and Woodsy plenty to do!

We stayed at a walk in site. The campground was quiet, woodsy and shady. The restrooms were basic, but adequate. There were no paper towels or hand dryers in the bathroom nearest our site. Firewood and ice available for purchase at the campground, but it was cash only, on the honor system. The gift shop at the visitor center in town was cash only too, and so were several stores in town, so be sure to bring cash. The park is close to two Frank Lloyd Wright houses - Kentuck Knob and Fallingwater. There’s so much to do here with the bike trail, hiking, whitewater rafting, natural water slide, cool fossils, waterfalls. There’s really something for everyone.

Quiet, woodsy campground

We just recently visited this campground with our 25 foot trailer and had a wonderful time, in spite of the rain. We spent a week there in site 168, electric site with 50 Amp capable. Pretty much all sites here are in the shade. Big, tall trees. Great to keep your campsite cool, not good if you rely on solar power. The sites are large and separate, not really private but good space between. I have been in this campground in past years with a tent several times and it has been good each time. The site we were on was pretty level, as many trailer sites appear to be but some of the tent sites may be level challenged. The bathrooms and shower houses are pretty nice, clean and the hot water was free and no problem. There is no camp store but there is a firewood and ice concession at the entrance to the campground. The road in is quite hilly but manageable with a 25 foot trailer. We did see some larger rigs so with care you can navigate there.

Activities there range from plenty of hiking, whitewater, and Architecture (Falling Water, Kentuk Knob), The Flight 93 Memorial, Pittsburg. There is no close grocery store, at least none we found. The town of Ohiopyle has restaurants with good food. And there are a number of whitewater outfitters to do the rafting. I highly recommend this campground.

Beautiful campground and plenty to do

I have stayed at Kentuck twice now, once while leading a trip with students where we were in tents, and once on a personal camping trip in a van. Both times I loved how close Kentuck is to Ohiopyle, and the amenities they have there. There is firewood for sale (cheap), bathhouses, water, dumpsters, fire rings at all sites, and the staff was helpful and friendly. I drove there both times, but there are campsites available that are near a trail that runs through the park and the campground I believe. I recommend this place!

Great camping close to hikes, rivers, and waterfalls

We had a blast camping here and we went when it was 15 degrees out. So, we were a little hesitant at first but we had a lot of fun. Bring your bikes if you have them. It's a lot of fun to bike around and to bike into the little town. I recommend going when the leaves are changing!

We LOVED Camping Here

We took our two daughters camping for the first time and tested our all our new gear before heading to Iceland. 

This was a perfect spot where we could drive in but also hike to area attractions.

Firewood, kindling, and even ice is available across the road, and the staff is super friendly.

Definitely recommend staying here!!!

Amazing experience!

Make sure you find the actual address of this campsite before driving to it. We used the one that automatically entered in when I booked it and it took us an extra hour to actually find it, with limited cell reception. Campsite was huge! Many bathrooms, dish washing section, very clean. 3 flushing toilets, 2 showers, 2 sinks. Campsite had a large area. Fire ring, picnic table, bench. They had a special event on Friday by the park ranger and we got to go to the helapad and stargaze!! Would highly recommend this campground! Just find the address before driving to it! Oh and at the campsite, there was cell service( verizon). Ice and firewood for sale. Honor system. $2.50 for bags of ice and $6 for firewood. But tons of sticks and fallen logs for firewood so we didnt need any.

Beautiful area!

This was my first time actually “camping” and using a tent in the wilderness. This camp was laid out very well and had plenty of maps and trails, as well as daily activities. They have a small amphitheater with easy access, a dump and recycling area. RVs had access to water and sewage drainage. The main trail we took (was also pet friendly!!) took us down to the main stretch between DC and Pittsburgh. The views are great and there is plenty of things to do within hiking distance. The only thing I would like to see is a picture of each spot. Some spots seem to be laid out better than others or slightly bigger. The spot next to us had room for a second car while ours was rather awkward. We ended up camping in the gravel but made it work. Ops. 

Great campground

This is a really great park. I been here multiple times through the years. There is a lot of fun trails to go on. Which you can view the water falls and river. The welcome center is very hands on. But there was a lot of construction when I was there. I recommend going in the summertime. When it’s warmer you can go down the natural waterslide and swim in the river. 

Great! But under construction

Awesome campground right on the Great Allegheny Passage trail. We loved being able to access the GAP trail right from the campground. We were there in November with plans to visit Fallingwater. This campground was the perfect location for both activities! Our Sprint hotspot didn’t work well (unboosted), but our Verizon did. The water hookups weren’t working at the time, but we were able to connect in Cherry Loop and fill our tank. The campground was really nice and really empty in November when we were there. In the summer I bet this place is packed. We would love to visit again in peak season! We also really enjoyed nearby Falls City Pub.

Great park near biking and hiking and rafting!

Ohiopyle is an absolutely beautiful area and this campground is no doubt included in that! Sites are well maintained, facilities are clean with hot showers, and the shower houses even have a kitchen sink to wash dishes in! My site did have electrical issues but it was fixed immediately by staff once I brought it to their attention. Highly recommend! 

Best campground

Ohiopyle Kentuck Hike/Bike Campsites are positioned directly off the trail, but only after pushing your heavily loaded bike a quarter mile up Beech Trail from the GAP Trail.

Once you are at the top, campsites are all good and its a short walk further up the campground roadway to the modern restroom/showerhouse, complete with a double sink inside to wash dishes and secure fresh water. 

Amenities:

*   Level campsite area to place tent
*   Picnic table
*   Fire Ring

For the same price per night for non-electric, you can travel up to the main campground area, which is what several bikepackers did, just to be close to modern conveniences.

  

Camping midweek brings quietness as very few sites were filled. Now this was mid-June, mid-week, during Covid-19 Sites are$23 a night.  

What goes up, must come down…when you decide to head back to the GAP Trail, its back down the Beech Trail to the GAP Trail. You walk your bike and are feathering the brakes the entire 1/4 mile down.

So…before you trudge up that hill, you cross over the Yough River and visit Ohiopyle for lunch or dinner, ice cream, shop around the area or schedule a rafting trip down the river. Falls Market offered a delicious burger and fries with a fantastic root beer float. The main roadway through town is under massive construction so its a bit clogged...the noise was deafening when eating lunch at Falls Market (no fault of their own) as inside seating was prohibited. 

Ohiopyle is both a GAP Trail Town and a River Town, with rafting a huge part of their economy. Sadly, we saw many small, unique businesses shuttered for good in each Trail Town along the GAP, so we did our best to spend as much as we could to help support the few still open.

One of the Best GAP Trail Campgrounds and Definitely the Toughest to get to

\- Had a super enjoyable time at Ohiopyle State Park Campground! It was very nicely tree covered and the restrooms were not far apart, but the campsites were quite close and not much separated some from others. There was firewood and ice right outside to buy, so don’t tote any in!! 

\- No service if you have sprint... in any of the surrounding area!

\- Definitely check out the nearby town and waterfalls! The town of Ohiopyle is very cute and has lots to enjoy if strolling through (hippie shops, bakeries, ice cream, and adventure rental outlets). Cucumber Falls was cool, but GO EARLY or it is so crowded it is not as enjoyable. ForSure check out the Meadow Run Trail! Beautiful and wide trail for a more private view of cascading water features. AND natural waterslides!! Amazing experience! Was basically there at the slides alone besides a father and two children and a fisherman. Such a cool experience and hangout spot!

\- Firetower lookout was a beautiful sunset and again we were alone to enjoy it!

\- Jonathan Run Trail was also AMAZING! Multiply waterfalls, magical feeling forests and ponds. Truly a trail worth hiking!

\- I’m including pictures of the exact camping experience we had planned, including coordinates to put into a GPS (if you have sprint def download the surrounding area into your phone before going!) Would recommend the whole plan if you only have a few days to explore the area!

Pretty Area but Campsites are Close Together

We stayed at the Kentuck Campsite. The sites are close to each other but we had plenty of space at the same time. The hiking trails were beautiful this time of year. Wasn’t a big fan of their restrooms, not very COVID friendly I felt and a bit outdated. That’s the only reason I give it a 4 star. 

Beautiful 

This is a lovely campground! The spots  are spacious and tree covered. Many loops are great for tents (our favorite!) 
It’s full, but doesn’t feel crowded and the guests were quiet. 
The RV loop has gravel pads and some have enough room to squeeze in a tent. It’s gravely though so be prepared if you’re in a tent in that area.
The restrooms are dated, but clean. 
There is tons to do with hiking, hiking, kayaking, rafting and swimming. 
It’s a hilly area so be ready for the inclines and descents! 

Great tent camping! 

The campground is large and fills up in the summertime. The park is gorgeous and has a lot to offer. 

Camping fine, park is gorgeous 

We enjoyed our stay at this campground set at the top of the mountain! There’s just enough room in between each campsite and the layout is easy to navigate. It gets busy on the weekend but it’s a nice environment. It’s fun to explore the downtown after rafting on the yough!

Starry Night 

Campground was so clean &amp; neat. Ohio Pyle is great place to visit on weekend so many Hikes &amp; other adventures are available specially biking on River side was so beautiful.

Beautiful Campground & Park

Very nice campsite lots of people but everyone was very friendly. Heads up when booking only a few areas allow pets. Also on this app it says drinking allowed not the case. Had a great time with lots to see and do in ohiopyle 

Nice place to stay 

Logistically, this park can be a challenge to reach for riders along the GAP trail, unless you’re willing to push it. The campground is between 500-700 vertical feet above the former railroad line. Options to get there include the steep walking trail where bikes are allowed to be walked but not ridden, riding the 3.5 miles along the road, also very steep, or taking a shuttle from downtown Ohiopyle.  Let me just preface this with the fact that this was the hardest part of the trail for us.  Maybe it was our low energy that day, maybe we just needed an extra coffee, but with our loaded bike and bike trailer, this hill kicked our butts!  Check out our video for details.

  

We stayed at the very top of the campground in the walk-in sites. They were fine, tucked into the trees, so we had some privacy although access to other sites lies right along the same trail so you do get to see your neighbors on a busy night.  Most of the sites in this area of the campground lacked level ground for the tent, but if you are as a tired as we were, you'll sleep well anyway.

  

Bathrooms, well, let’s just say that their heyday was around 1982 and the backlog of maintenance must be high. It’s not the worst I’ve ever seen, it’s just in a sad state of peeling paint and cobbled together plumbing repairs. Some things worked well, like the awesome dishwashing sink and the copious amounts of hot water. All the park’s literature claimed that this was one of PA’s most popular parks. If this is their pride and joy, well, pony up tax payers because it’s time to do some work. All this being said, the rest of the campground was in really good shape, and the Yurts looked lovely (and are very popular). 

  

The surrounding area is truly gorgeous, worth exploring the gorge, taking a rafting/kayaking trip, hiking, cycling, etc.

A Big Push Up to the Campsite from the GAP Trail

We come here at least once a year to explore and get some time in on the river. Walk in sites are much more private. There is so much to do and see in the surrounding areas. I love that there is firewood and ice available at the park entrance. 

One of my favorite places!

My wife and I camped at Kentuck, hiked many of the nearby trails, went behind the veil at Cucumber Falls, slid down the natural waterslides, and went rafting on the Lower Yough. We had an absolutely wonderful time. 

At Kentuck we did not have any nearby neighbors so I’d recommend Birch St (lane?) for tent/non-electric campsites. 

Wonderful time

The Kentuck campground was fairly empty (except for the yurt areas.) The trails were very enjoyable, as was the Natural Waterslide and Cucumber Falls. 

Excellent experience 

We stayed here in April 2022 and it was fairly full.  It was easy to find our site and get settled in.  Great neighbors and the showers were great at the end of the day - good water pressure and nice and hot.  Picnic tables and fire rings at each site.

Great Campground

I spontaneously decided to go on a 2 day camping trip with my dog. I pulled up at 5 pm and was given a spot amongst the other dog people. It only took me 5 mins to realize that I was too close to the action. I had left town purposely to escape and isolate. The woman working the desk was more than kind and sent me to a new spot of complete seclusion. Spot #17..I spent the next 2 days literally being a happy camper and day dreaming about my next adventure and return to Ohiophyle. The trails were plenty and entertaining. The grounds more beautiful than words and the people working all a delight. 

Don't miss this breath taking park. 

The campground was well kept, some bath houses were nicer than others. Each bath house has a place to wash dishes which is great. Lots of trees between campsites to help with privacy, but you’re close to others so when they don’t respect quiet hours it’s loud… the lady at the check-in desk wasn’t kind, but the dude was great. Really great location and trail that connects the park to the campground. 

Site 207 was very large and private. (206 looked good too). Bathrooms were cleaned daily, but could use some updating. Free showers, strong cell service (at&amp;t). No camp store, but fire wood was available. Campground is very quiet most of the day most are off visiting the local attractions of Ohiopyle. 

Beautiful Laurel Highlands

Good campground with decent privacy. It was quiet being a weekday in the fall. There is a lot of hiking nearby, most of which you need to drive to within the state park. Our campsite was surrounded with poison ivy and the bathrooms were a far walk. The bathrooms definitely could use some renovations but it is indoor plumbing with showers and a dish washing sink. The water is drinkable from the foundations. Fire wood is overpriced but accessible.
