## Overview

 South Twin Lake Campground sits on the shores of South Twin Lake, a small lake adjacent to the much larger Wickiup Reservoir. 
## Recreation

 South Twin Lake provides visitors with the opportunity for fishing, swimming and paddling. Motorized boating is not permitted. 
## Facilities

 This facility has sites that can accomodate, tent, trailer or RV campers. Each site comes with a picnic table and is equipped with a fire ring. This campground offers potable water and flush toilets, as well as, a nearby boat launch area leading to the water. Boat launch parking is for day use only and requires a recreation fee separate from camping fees.\_\_ 
## Natural Features

 The lake was formed about 20,000 years ago when rising magma-encountered groundwater resulting in violent steam explosions. The resulting explosions formed a broad shallow crater, which later filled with water. The lake covers an area of 99 acres with average depth of 33 feet with a maximum depth of 58 feet. South Twin Lake is a lure\'s toss from the Deschutes arm of Wickiup Reservoir and less than a mile south of North Twin lake. 
## Nearby Attractions

 Visitors can explore wilderness areas, rivers, lakes and reservoirs, and approximately hundred of miles of trail. Newberry National Volcanic Monument, approxiately 45 minutes by vehicle, is a great starting point for visitors to learn about the diverse landscape and history of the area through interpretive programs and exhibits. Visitors can explore Lava River Cave, the longest continuous lava tube in Oregon. Visitors enjoy traveling the Cascade Lakes Scenic Bywaywhich climbs 66 miles through the Cascade Range, weaving past snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes.

 Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.

South Twin Lake Campground

l backpacked to this campground with 4 teens and 2 millennial’s with minimal experience. It went great. The Boys loved swimming in the lake and the adults took a hike to Palmateer Peak (highly suggested). The only cons are the mosquitos and amount of people camping at the lake. I would highly suggest this for beginners, families, and a day hike.

Great family location 

Loved this spot. Some great trails accessible for hiking. Although, the trails are not marked that well. Still beautiful and the lakes and nearby reservoir are great. Campsites are big and are drive up

Great spot

The campground was awesome, very clean, with multiple bathrooms, a shower house, and a changing room. There were a few First come First serve spots and luckily we got one of those! 
Its not a very big lake which i think deters it becoming crowded, and it seemed most of the people there were setting up play areas on the bank.

There is a small resort/lodge area across the road from the campground where they have a shop/restaurant and sell small extra camping gear, fishing supplies and non perishable food. From 8-3 there was also a coffee hut that also sold icecream!
There were tons of cabins at the resort but that was separate from the campground

This lake is easy to fall in love with! There are lots of fish, birds, deer, and I saw a coyote on exploring the bank while we paddleboarded. People have built multiple wooden shelters around the lake that are fun to explore. However It is a very muddy lake and I tried climbing off my paddleboard on the far side of the lake to grab a coke can in the mud, and as I did i sunk down to my thigh into the mud haha
