## Overview

 Waxmyrtle Campground is located 8 miles south of Florence within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The campground is situated near the beach, several hiking trails, and a non-motorized section of open dunes. These nearby attractions, combined with excellent campground amenities, make Waxmyrtle an ideal camping destination. Waxmyrtle also borders the picturesque Siltcoos River Estuary, where wildlife viewing is a popular pastime for campers. 
## Recreation

 The campground serves as the starting point for the Waxmyrtle Trail, which follows the Siltcoos River as it winds its way to the Pacific Ocean. Other nearby trails include the Lagoon Trail and the Chief Tsiltcoos Trail. Nearby off-road vehicle trails and open dune riding areas provide hours of fun for off-road enthusiasts. 
## Facilities

 Camping is available from May 1 through September 30 and amenities include drinking water, a campground host, flush toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, recycling, and trash collection. Parking aprons are paved. 
## Natural Features

 The campground is located near the Siltcoos River and is situated among shore pine, huckleberry, and other coastal shrubs and conifers. Many sites are surrounded by a thick wall of coastal shrubbery, providing ample privacy from neighboring sites. The campground is part of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, which is known for its wind-sculpted sand dunes towering up to 500 feet above sea level.

 Siltcoos Lake offers bass, cutthroat trout, and rainbow trout fishing. The Siltcoos off-highway vehicle staging area is located less than 1 mile west of the campground on the Siltcoos Beach Access Road. 
## Charges &amp; Cancellations

 Campsites that are not occupied after 24 hours of arrival time will be considered as a \"no show\" and sites will be released for others to reserve. If campers will be arriving after 24 hours of their arrival time, they are encouraged to call the ranger station at 541-271-6000 to let staff know.\_\_

Waxmyrtle Campground

We made the trek from Crater lake to this camp site without a reservation on a holiday weekend... I am not saying it was a smart move - but it was a move. We arrived after dark and simply drove into the campsite and looked around until we found a spot. (There are little reservation tags on the spots that are taken like any other campsite in Oregon) We found an open space and rejoiced because we had been driving ALL DAY! 
This campsite is primarily a place where people stay who are riding the dunes, so if you are looking for a cool place to stay and take your dune buggy out -- you've found it! There were all sorts of cool adventure vehicles everywhere on site, and everything was pretty well put together so you were close to your neighbors, but not too close.
In our campsite we were able to park our Jeep right outside the site, pitch 2 tents, have a fire pit and a picnic table with room to spare. 
There was plenty of dead wood (fallen down branches around for us to make a warm fire no problem without any additional wood. 
This campsite had bathrooms in walking distance (a very short walk), garbages on site, and was close to the water so you could hear it. 
Another benefit of this campsite is that it was a short drive to the Oregon coast the next morning which was where we were really aiming for. 
I will include a couple of oregon coast pictures in my review as well as it is just a short jaunt away! 

You get to name your campsite so we named ours "Betty Lou Frankfurter Memorial Site" it was very fitting... 

Good price, clean bathrooms, HUGE sites!

As far as developed campgrounds go, this one is pretty nice. The sites are fairly private, with lots of salal and other coastal plants. I don't think any of the sites offer power, which cuts down on the mega RVs. There are flush toilets, a pleasant convenience. There's a 1.5 mile trail to the beach, which we had completely to ourselves on a Monday in August.

The only drawback is that you're within earshot of the OHV camp and all the engine sounds that come with that. It's certainly not overpowering, but it's not just the sound of nature here.

Cozy, with a caveat

Stayed in mid-July. Nice access to beach and nearby trails and Florence. Bathrooms were clean with sink and toilet.

Nice weekend escape

Pro: beautiful location, well kept campgrounds, excellent amenities
Con: expensive per night, noise pollution, not a lot of privacy

Had a great time staying here with a friend, we stayed at site 31, which is a bit back from the loop. A lot of the sites here at Waxmertyle are exposed to the paved loop and don't offer much privacy, but the thick vegetation between sites help muffle noise.

Large, well lit and clean bathrooms, lots of access to potable water, and big fire pits. Our site had a bit of a red ant problem, but other than that we really enjoyed our stay. The wildlife volunteer host across the way from us was very kind.

My only issue was the noise pollution from the many vehicles out on the dunes. We could hear every rev quite clearly until well into the early morning. Once that died down, the sound of the ocean carried all the way to our site.

Hiking around here is great! I highly recommend the Waxmertyle Trail, which starts inside the camp itself. The beach and dunes are just a short walk away, but PLEASE RESPECT THE SNOWY PLOVER NESTING AREAS!

Pricey stay, but well worth the beach!

Our neighbors here were so friendly! We even all cooked and ate dinner together it was great. The spots were spacious and we felt very safe sleeping here in our little van
