Umpqua Lighthouse State Park Campground

Umpqua Lighthouse Campground is on top of a hill, which would make sense since there is a lighthouse there. If you are hiking and biking you may not want to make the effort choosing to stay at the bottom of the hill at the crappy RV/Tent camp in the wind or just keep going in either direction to a campground on more level ground, but that would be a mistake. Make it up to the top, and you'll be rewarded with an out of the way, minimally populated camp tucked into the trees just past the lighthouse, and with trails, wildlife and brand new bathrooms and showers.

  

The Hiker/Biker Camp is just past the entry to the camp, down the trail towards Lake Marie. It has three different areas leveled off with shared storage boxes, fire pits and picnic tables. Each little clear is open to itself but nicely private to the other clearings so if you're traveling with a small group you can take over a whole area if you choose. Unlike most of the other Oregon State Park campgrounds there were not REI branded charging stations or bike tools, but the camp hosts let us plug into their outlets as needed.

  

They were just finishing the building of brand new bathroom/shower facilities while I was there, but even the portable set up they had was one of the nicest ones I've seen in a campground. Deer were wandering about, and there was plenty of bird watching. 

  

The main campground area was divided into a loop and straight line stretch. Sites varied from open with privacy trees to entirely shaded. Despite it being a weekend during the summer the camp wasn't full, and it was easy for travelers to pull in and grab a spot.  
  

Walk down the hill to the Lake Marie Trail for a quiet trip around the small lake. A few benches were found along the lake making great opportunities for relaxed reflection or a glass of wine. Shooting off from the LMT were trails out to the Umpqua Bay and the ocean side beaches.

\*Pro-Tip: There is a really windy, less cool campground at the bottom of the hill near the entry to Umpqua Lighthouse State Park. Go up the hill. It will be worth it. Even if you've been hiking or riding all day. It is better.

At the top of the hill. Small and overlooked.

Great location.  Walking distance to the beach.  So beautiful.  In the woods.  Great amenities.  Close to the Sand Dunes.  I would go back.  It's great for families.  You can buy firewood.  You are a little close to your neighbors, but I really enjoyed camping here.

The west coast is just gorgeous and Umpqua Lighthouse State Park isn't an exception. It was cold but we were much more prepared. The lighthouse is an awesome site and I highly recommend the area!

Beautiful Spot

We did our annual dad camp with kids and no moms allowed here and really enjoyed it. The drive was a bit longer than we wanted from Portland but pretty the whole way. The campground has a nice small loop with a hill that the kids loved to ride their bikes around and zoom by our site. The bathrooms were clean and because of its location, it had few cars driving through, leaving the road open for kids to do what kids do.

Kid-friendly and quiet

Hike and bike area is down a short trail near the RV spots, but still quiet. Lots of trails taking you down to a river for canoeing and kayaking. Also within walking distance of the lighthouse. Tent spot has fire pit and table. Firewood, showers and restrooms available.

Secluded and Quiet

We visited this campground for the second time this past weekend and even in late October it is a fantastic location to go on the coast!

It has tent sites, RV pads cabins and is one of the few locations where delux yurts can be rented.

W stayed in a cabin last time, but that loop is closed for construction until 2019.

This time it was the delux yurt, which sleeps up to 9 people, has it's own bathroom with toilet, sink and shower, microwave, fridge, kitchen sink,TV, DVD player and heater that will cook you out if you want it to. Outside comes with a porch, picnic bench and 4 burner gas grill. Fantastic for group rental! We had 5 adults and it was a ton of space!

The yurts are just up the hill from the lake where you can go fishing and hike the approximately 1 mile long trail.

There is also a day use area with benches and a small sandy beach.

Quaint location. Great amenities!

We pulled in Saturday with no reservations but had no problem finding a walk in spot. They only had about 6 sites open since they were doing construction on the second loop.

Pretty quiet. You do hear atv noise in the distance but we weren't disturbed by it. Mosquitos were out but what can you do. Beautiful forest and lots of greenery. Camp hosts were very friendly.

We paid $29 for w/e. I think fhu was $33.

Pretty good cell service with Verizon. 

MUST DO: go visit the Umpqua River Lighthouse. It's next to the campground and offers beautiful ocean views as well as a gift shop, museum, and tour. The tour is $8 and worth it! You even get to go into the lens room! 

Great little park with an awesome lighthouse! 

This park is small and spaces are tight but my family and I had a blast! Caught about a dozen fish in the lake! Nice one mile trail around Lake Marie, perfect for my dog. 

So fun!

We loved it here. I didn’t know the light house or the dunes were even there!!! Loooove this entire area!!!

Best rest 

 This is one of the cleanest campgrounds we’ve been in. The grounds are manicured and cleaned constantly by the hosts. Hosts were pleasant. 

  

This campground offers full hook up or dry camping and they also have yurts and a couple cabins. The road and sites are paved with large grassy and dirt areas to set up tents or whatnot. There is a hike around Lake Marie from the campground and you can also hike to the lighthouse and down to the beach. There is ATV use on the dunes. 

  

Each site has picnic table, fire pit and moderate amount of privacy some more than others. Mix of sun and shade. 

  

The bathrooms and showers were very clean with free hot water. Garbage is available as well as water spigots throughout. No recycling though. Firewood is sold via an automatic pay system at the pay kiosk pick up wood from host. No dump available. If you need anything hosts and rangers are always out and about. Would definitely stay here again! Good cell service with ATT, Verizon and TMobile

Meticulously Cared For

The campground is small but quiet. My site is just above a lake. Wonderful path all around the lake. I will come back again.

Umpqua  Lighthouse

This is the best campground I have ever been to. Each site is very private, bathrooms are extremely clean and free showers! The camp hosts clearly take a lot of pride in this campground. We visited in the off season in November and the weather was beautiful. Of course there was a little rain, but not enough to ruin the experience. 

It was $19 for a tent site and access to all the amenities including showers. They even have sinks reserved for doing dishes. We stopped in last minute without a reservation and had no trouble finding a beautiful site. 

There is also a mile long loop around a gorgeous little lake right on site. Highly recommend stopping in!



Best campground!

You can walk to the dunes or hike around Lake Marie. Gorgeous plants, wildlife, and amazing mushrooms in November. I met a wild turkey by the lighthouse. The campground is a mix of tent and RV sites plus cabins and yurts. There is also a separate area with deluxe yurts. AT&amp;T signal is strong so I was able to work from home during my whole stay, even with constant zoom meetings.

Just gorgeous

This is a great little park.  We arrived and it was cold and foggy.  The next morning it was sunny and nice so we headed to the beach.  What a cool spot.  Nice shallow sandy beach was great for kids and the lake was perfect for paddle boarding.  The loop trail makes for a nice short hike( 1 mile).

Hidden Gem

People in other reviews say the sites aren’t so close they’re on top of each other- idk where they have stayed in other places but these sites are so close together that in my tent site I could make eye contact and hear everything other people were talking about. Even in the yurt- I could hear everyone around me, even hear other sites that were farther away- like full conversations. This campground has way too many sites- and with fees it still ends up being expensive at $27 a night for a tiny tent site. Loud, crowded, don’t stay here if you want peace and quiet. Good for families or groups I guess- as a solo traveler I definitely will not ever come back to this site.

I am a big fan of the Oregon state parks. This one stands out. The park looks like it was done by a landscape architect. Kudos to whoever designed this place. There are full hookup, electric only, and no hookup sites. I was able to get a no hookup site in the interior near the bathhouse which had access to the northern sky for Starlink. 

  

There is a beautiful lake with a hiking trail around it just to the southwest of the campground. The lighthouse and beach are within walking distant. The bathhouse gets an A.

A Gem on the Oregon Coast

Small campground that is easy to setup for new campers like us. Level parking and nice large sites. Bathrooms are great and showers are private, separated rooms. Nice hike around the lake with the trail head right out of camp. Lighthouse is a walkable distance, but you are walking on the side of the road with hills and blind corners. 

Small and Quiet

**General:** 54-site campground (plus a hiker/biker camp) that is a mix of water/electric sites, no hookup sites, cabins, yurts, and deluxe yurts. 

  

**Site Quality:** Camper pads are paved but most are not very long (I don’t remember when reserving if there was a length restriction, but I did not see any large Class As and doubt they would fit in any of the sites). Site desirability varies. We were lucky with Site 43 – foliage provided some privacy, and we had a view of Lake Marie from the back of our site. Most of the sites on the inside of the loop have no separation/privacy between them. 

  

**Activities:** There is a one-mile hilly trail around Lake Marie, and there is access to the dunes. We were last at this campground 30 years ago with our two young children and remember they had a great time playing in the dunes, however, if people with OHVs were out on the dunes (which is popular), it would not have been good for young children. After fire restrictions on all non-coastal campgrounds we have recently stayed at, fires were allowed, and wood sales were available from 2 p.m.– 8 p.m. 

  

This was an overnight stay for us as we made our way down the Oregon Coast, and we enjoyed our stay.
