Siuslaw National Forest
Overview
Rock Creek Campground is nestled in a grove of large spruce and Douglas fir trees, near a beach on the Oregon Coast. Visitors enjoy relaxing on the beach, admiring colorful sunsets and hiking many trails in the area.
Recreation
Rock Creek offers great birding and fishing opportunities. Anglers cast for cutthroat trout and salmon. The beach and a day-use parking area can be accessed within a half-mile from the campground. The Rock Creek Wilderness Area, within the Siuslaw National Forest, encompasses about 7,500 acres. The area is comprised of a dense coniferous rainforest, where bigleaf maple and red alder trees line the creeks, and rhododendrons dot the forest floor.
Facilities
The campground offers single-family sites situated along Rock Creek. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. No electric hookups are available.
Natural Features
Campsites are situated along Rock Creek, just off the Pacific Coast of Oregon in the Siuslaw National Forest, where mosses drape the branches and ferns cover the forest floor, lending a rain forest appearance. The Siuslaw stretches from the lush forests of the coastal mountains to the Oregon Dunes and beaches of the Pacific. Siuslaw is one of only two national forests that border the Pacific Ocean. The campground's close proximity to the beach provides opportunities to view awe-inspiring Pacific sunsets, which often leave lasting impressions on visitors. A variety of wildlife can often be viewed on the coast, including pelicans and other shorebirds, sea lions and migrating whales.
Nearby Attractions
The Cape Perpetua Visitor Center is a few miles north. The center has a phenomenal view of the ocean. A variety of short film are shown in the theater, and whale watch volunteers are posted in March to help visitors spot the beautiful, migrating creatures. Visitors also enjoy exploring tide pools at Cape Perpetua, and hiking along the area' 23-mile trail system. Several paths lead through dense, old-growth forests and to rocky coastal overlooks.

Campground Host is a Horrible Person
My family and I recently moved back to Oregon. We've been camping for the summer. We stayed 2 nights at rock creek campground and loved it, it was so gorgeous and the kids really loved the view and secluded spot. We also stayed a total of 8 days at cape perpetua making our total time spent in the Siuslaw forest this summer 10 days. We really loved Rock Creek so we have driven through there a couple of times over the past couple of weeks looking for any openings as we have 4 nights left that we are allowed to stay in the Siuslaw Forest System for the allotted time period. We bought an America the Beautiful pass so we could enjoy the discount this time. The park manager was so rude and hurtful. She accused us of overstaying our 14 days. She humiliated us in front of other campers. We did nothing wrong and she threatened us. She told us we would be given a ticket and told to move along. She assumed we were homeless and said this was not an alternative to"affordable housing", we were simply enjoying our time in nature before the kids return to school. We didn’t know that coming in to look for available first come first served spots would make people think we were homeless and treat us like total heathens. On top of that, even if we were homeless, what a terrible way to treat others. We won't be returning to Rock creek and honestly regret ever spending the money on our pass in the first place.
Quiet Respite on Oregon Coast
Inland from the beach about a quarter mile, this campground was a little piece of heaven during the Oregon Heat Dome of 2021. While most of the coast was crowded with people looking to escape the heat, I found a sweet little spot on a tiny creek where I sat all day and read my books and watched the birds.
Some sites are reservable, some are FCFS. I had site 6, which is not super private, between two other sites with no foliage between sites. I was in my 20 foot van, which worked fine, but this site would be better in a tent. No hook ups. Some of the other sites are much more private. I lucked out with very quiet and conscientious neighbors.
No cell service, but you can walk the quarter mile road to the beach and there's plenty of service. To get to the beach, you walk under the hiway and through the creek. OK on a hot summer day, probably not ideal other times of the year.
