## Overview

 There are 21 camping units that can accommodate vehicles and trailers up to 55 feet in length.\_\_ Some sites are reservable and some are FCFS sites.\_\_ Each site has a picnic table and grill.\_\_ There are 3 toilets.\_\_ Drinking water is available to visitors from multiple spigots throughout the campground.\_\_ Garbage receptacles are located in the campground. Humbug Campground is surrounded by old-growth forest, and during the months of May through July, the rhododendrons bloom in a spectacular show of pink blossoms. Recreation in the area is abundant -- plan on a quiet stroll through this lush forest or fishing on nearby Breitenbush River. Reservations for this site can be made up to 6 months in advance of arrival date by reserving online at RECREATION.GOV or by calling 877-444-6777. 
## Recreation

 Wading and fishing are popular activities in the Breitenbush River, and rainbow trout is the most common catch for anglers. The Willamette National Forest has about 1,700 miles of trail. While many are in wilderness areas, a number of trails are low-elevation, easy-access trails for year-round hiking.
## Facilities

 Humbug Campground sites have picnic tables, grills and easy access to the vault toilets. Drinking water spigots are spread throughout the campground. Most campsites offer sweeping views of the river.
## Natural Features

 The campground lies in the Willamette National Forest, which stretches for 110 miles along the western slopes of the Cascade Range. The varied landscape of high mountains, narrow canyons, cascading streams and wooded slopes offer varied recreational opportunities for visitors. The Breitenbush River is a tributary of the North Santiam River, and its clean waters flow from short forks of snowmelt in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness. A variety of plants and foliage separate the spacious campsites and provide privacy from other sites.

 Detroit Lake has a marina and provides plenty of opportunity for water recreation like boating, water skiing and kayaking.

Humbug Campground

Stayed on opening night of this season and it was absolutely lovely. Ranger was friendly and helpful, and provided us directions for walking down to the water for a gorgeous morning view. The campground was quiet and tranquil during our stay, and our site was situated in mossy trees with lovely views of sun rays poking through the trees in the morning. I can’t wait to go back to Humbug!

Beautiful & tranquil 

This campsite is about five miles off of 22 and five miles from a few local stores and Detroit lake.

The site is tucked away and quiet. A few of the walk-in spots are right next to a crystal clear blue river. 

There is onsite managers and facilities are pretty well kept. 

Misnomer

What a beautiful campground!  There are around 20 sites, all of which are quite private and cozy.  Many of the tent spaces are nestled away behind trees so you really feel like each site is your own special place.  There are at least two group sites, sites with pull-throughs for trailers, tent sites, vault toilets, and many water faucets close by.  Camp hosts are so great!  Firewood was $6/bundle. There is a trailhead near one of the group sites that we traveled about a mile down before turning back to camp for lunch. It’s a deep, green, and very lush forest.  Will definitely return to hike further. 

Peaceful and beautiful 

Loved having access to the Humbug Flats trail.  Our site, number 13, had great access to a picturesque swimming hole on the Brightenbush.  Lots of really unique and private sites.

Great Relaxing Spot

Has pit toilets, water and trash, no hookups. If at sites by the water you can hear it and is a great way to listen and fall asleep. A short hike down to the water to cool off and the trail is a great walk. Sites are for the most part very good sized and many you have privacy as well as some pull through. Please note that there is a trail between 9 and 10 as well as 10 having a area hikers might pop Into site from and site 13 edge has a trail down to water so if you don't like people walking up then don't camp in those spots. We didn't mind. Very clean toilets and grounds. Perfect place to just unwind for a couple days

Small rustic and tranquil grounds 

This is an excellent little campground just a few miles up FS RD 46 from Detroit.

It can get busy during Summer weekends but mid week you can usually find a nice spot.

The sites are very spacious but at the same time many are very private.

I usually try to get one down by the river. The sound of the rushing water is very calming.

Has water, and vault toilets that are usually kept quite clean.

Highly recommened for families and the solo camper.

Beautiful and Peaceful

UPDATE:  likely impacted by 2020 fire season.

We were looking for a last-minute spot and Humbug still had sites! We got a great private shady site on a forested loop. I think this is a great alternative to Detroit Lake as it's just a few miles away but much more private and quiet if you don't want to hear the motor boats all evening. There was a stream, but we could hear it rather than see it. i don't think any sites have spectacular views, but it was a nice forest-escape nonetheless, with lots of vegetation between us and the neighbors.

A quieter Detroit Lake area alternative

Humbug Campground is in the Willamette National Forest and on the beautiful Breinbush river. It's small and great for fishing. There are easy, but not ADA accessible, trails with tons of rhododendron flowers and orange rough-skinned newts along the way.

  

The vaulted toilets were REALLY smelly, and there was dog poop in our spot upon arrival. Otherwise, a nice enough spot.

Beautiful campground with great hiking and beach access. Really clean and well kept. 

Pretty Campground

Best place I’ve stayed in a long time. Very clean, bathrooms and showers we so well kept. Trails and beach were amazing. Stayed 2 days and stayed busy for sure. The staff is friendly and always willing to answer any questions. I will be visiting again. I loved it. 

I’ll be back

I’ve always wanted to stay here, but typically would roll pass. Not this time!!  Fate gave me the last tenting spot ($18)
Beautiful area!!  Did the Humbug Mountain trail. A bun-buster but the view is spectacular. Morning coffee walked to the beach. Spectacular!!  Only negatives are Hwy 101 is right next to you, so Jake-brakes at all hours is common, and it’s a bit more ‘developed’ than I like. 



Well developed, beautiful, but noisy 

This is a great campground. The Hosts were super friendly. Clean w/ hot showers.

Beautiful spot on Coast

Camp sites were nice sized and well taken care of.   Showers were nice.   The walk to the beach was beautiful also.  The camp host, Norm was very helpful since we didn’t have cell service and had trouble getting our reservation completed.
