Fort Stevens State Park offers visitors a chance to learn about history while enjoying the natural beauty of the Oregon coast. The park is home to the remains of an old military fort that was in use from the Civil War era to World War II, providing visitors with a fascinating glimpse into the area's past. Fort Stevens State Park Campground

Loved this State Park! The trails around it were fun and led from the camp right up to the beach by the old ship wreck. My kids ages 2-14 always had something to do and we brought our bikes. The camping sites and RV sites are cheap compared to Utah, Washington and Idaho rates, but they were also very nice! A little close together but nice. You have to book your site months in advance at this place because it fills up fast. So much to do in this area! Close to seaside, the fort Stevens retired military site was free and interesting-with a scavenger hunt and prize at the end for the kids who complete it. Also, close to Astoria which also has many things to do! Loved that it was close enough to drive over the Columbia River to get to Washington to see the light houses!

RV-camping 

Fort Stevens has so much to offer. It is not only a big and beautiful campground (one of the largest in the state) but it is also a significant historical site. The spaces are well maintained, and the miles of bike trails seem endless. They have very nice yurts and tent sites as well as the large RV sites. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and they have awesome programs for the kids. 

We love this campground so much that we are getting married there this summer! :)

My Favorite Park in Oregon

We stayed in sites 266 and 267 (loop G) on August 6th 2015. This campground and park is awesome! The complex is huge, and would be a very fun place to have a bike. We visited the beach and the wreck of the Peter Iredale, but didn't make it to the fort- more than one night is definitely a good idea!  Our sites were right near the centrally-located showers (but not too near), which were hot, and free! Always a fabulous feeling after almost 2 weeks on the road with limited shower options.  My only real complaint is that the sites are packed in pretty close together (which isn't my favorite). There was a large youth group staying in the same loop who had decided to use our campsites for a pinata, and had to be asked to move when we arrived. Their behavior certainly isn't a reflection on the park, but slightly larger campsites may have prevented them from feeling the need to take over our space.

Bring Your Bike!

My visit here was unplanned. I'm very glad I camped here. The main trails are paved and perferect for biking down to the beach! There is a very old shup wreck on the beach and the sunsets seen through it are perfect. 

At the camp sites there are places to park your rv, camp tent, yerts, small cabins, and many more camping options! The staff is very friendly! There is running water for a nice shower and clean bathrooms! They even deliver wood to your camping spot for a small fee! Beautifully forested area makes this place an ideal camp ground. If you forgot something don't worry they have a convenient shoping spot in the center of the camp grounds. 

Beautiful beaches 

This is a huge campground basically at the beach. Plenty to do, like hikes, swimming, the beach, and playgrounds. The sites themselves aren't great, though. Too small and not enough space and greenery between them to offer any privacy. There's also quite a few that back right up to roads. I'd go again, but mostly for the area and things to do at the campground rather than the camp sites.

I had the greatest time at this campground. There is so much to do here from hiking, biking, swimming and Geocaching. We took our bikes and visited a lot of caches this way.

Then one of the days we spent at the lake swimming and just enjoying ourselves.

Great location 

The park is great for having bike trails and being close to the beach and fort but can be pretty busy in peak time. While your close to the ocean your not close enough to hear. Your likely to have a lot of neighbors close in and sound travels. Overall a nicely maintained park and if you do car camping or have an RV it's probably a good spot but if your looking for a little more roughing it probably not the spot.

Great place on a rainy day

Fort Stevens was a relatively open site that was close to the ocean. This is something that I was very happy about. Before we got to the site we had a great chat with the park rangers as they were advising us on if there was an earthquake or tsunami and where all the exit points were. "Run" was pretty much the advice

As I say, the camp ground was pretty quiet even though the spots were open and not very private. It had all the basic amenities that you would want from a state park and it was cheap... being on the bicycle

Fort Stevens Camp Ground

We car camped here in mid-February. The park is extensive - ranging from large stretches of beach - to a fascinating fort. Lots of trails and bike paths. Warrenton is close by, which was convenient when we got hungry. A quiet, peaceful atmosphere.

A Little Of Everything

Every year growing up, my family and i would come here during the summer for a week at a time. There are so many bike trails around the park and that go to the battery ruins. The beach is either a short drive or bike ride away.  This is probably the largest state park I've stayed at. Also, the Peter Iredale shipwreck on the beach has always been one if my favorites, it makes for excellant pictures, especially at sunset if you are into photography. 

Growing up camping

This is one of the campgrounds that I call a driveway campground, since all of the spots are basically paved parallel driveways with some trees in-between. This also happens to be a huge campground, with several different loops and probably hundreds of spots. That said, there’s so much to do both within the campground as well as the surrounding area. Kids are biking everywhere, there’s a swimming area, lots of ranger programs, playgrounds and of course the beach (with its very own shipwreck skeleton). Overall a great place to come stay if you’re not looking for too much privacy but still want some trees and greenery near the Oregon beach.

Pros: Lots to do, especially for kids, including the beach.

Cons: Fills up quickly. Book in advance online as soon as you can.

Popular Campground Near the Beach

Highly suggest!  Close to Astoria,  which is an awesome town.  We went to Peter Iredale which was very cool.  We saw elk on the beach while on the lookout tower. The campground was very nice.  Generators were a little bit of a nuisance,  but we could deal with them. There are showers. The bathrooms were very clean and well kept.  Beware of the raccoons!  But it was close to everything!

An Oregon must

Military Family so Fort Stevens was definitely on our list as we travel to Oregons State Parks!

This park is huge compared to most of Oregons State Parks, it is also one of the most popular. So be sure to book months in advance if you plan on visiting during peak season.

The campsites were spacious, the playground was nice and there are many hike/bike trails to explore. The shipwreck on the beach was pretty cool and the Fort/ Military Museum was Amazing!

Located near Seaside with its aquarium and Astoria home of the Goonies, there is plenty to see and do!

The only downside to this park was the Hoards of Mosquitoes we encountered in the campground, so be sure to bring lots of bug spray!

A Lot of History Here

The Peter Iredale Shipwreck was the main selling point for deciding to stay at Fort Stevens State Park in northern Oregon. I am a photographer, and as part of our road trip from Southern California to Vancouver Island, BC, I wanted to make a pit stop to see the shipwreck. Given our route and timeline, it worked out to spend the night at Fort Stevens State Park.

The campsites were small, but nice. I always look at campsite photos before choosing a site, and I found one that was pretty secluded with shrubbery and trees, for privacy. We arrived so late we didn’t bother cooking, and just at chips and salsa with some margaritas - however, there was a fire ring and a picnic table.

The campground had wonderful hot PRIVATE showers, all in their own little individual, lockable space. The showers were nice and clean, and no coins were needed!!!

The Peter Iredale shipwreck is certainly a tourist magnet, but still very cool to see. The fort itself was very interesting to roam around and explore - great for adventures and history lovers alike!

There were a lot of mosquitos, but that’s just mother nature doing her thing.

Overall - good experience!

We brought the kids and expected to listen to their complaints the whole time, but they were intrigued by everything!

Historic AND fun! 

We go every year with a large group and stay at the yurts! They have great kid's programs, playground and easy biking! You can chose the lake or the beach to spend your day or check out the battery!

Family and bike friendly!

This campground is big, and very popular. Make sure to make reservations as campground was full at the end of August. There are several trails and you can walk to the beach. The campsite we had was nice sized. There is an old fort here and an old shipwreck that was neat to see. Restrooms and showers available, and they were nice.  Just a short drive to Astoria, Oregon. Probably my second favorite campground on our vacation. 

Great beaches

Such a great place to stay on the Oregon coast!  I love this campground because it’s on the coast, very beautiful and spacious.  Great sites around to see including the mouth of the Columbia River.  Spacious sites you can reserve and electric/water etc.  There is even an area for hiker and bikers.  You’re close to Astoria, Gearhart, Cannon Beach and Portland is only an hour and a half away.

Adventure Awaits!

This is one of the largest state park campgrounds in Oregon!  Nice location near Astoria and Seaside, with lots of things to do and explore.

There are different “loops” available, with many RV sites.  We were the only tent campers we could see in our RV loop,  the sizes vary, but their website gives you a general size idea.  All the loops have restroom/shower facilities that were regularly stocked and cleaned.  

There is a lake within the park that you can boat or go fishing.  Also, there is access to the beach right in the park.  This beach is one of the few that allow motor vehicle use.  

Check out the old military sites and the shipwreck while at the park, and head in to Astoria for a day of exploration!

Great location

This place is a perfect family place. Plenty of trails to ride bikes on, takes you to the beach or just to explore. campground has plenty of shade and even a playground. Lots of activities to do about here, we love checking out the old shipwreck and checking out the museums.

**Campground Review: **

  

For years my family and friends have been making Fort Stevens our go-to for large family camping trips. I have experienced the park as a small child, teen, and adult, and can honestly say that it is the park that holds the most memories for me as a camper. The park used to be a military installation consisting of gun placements, defenses, etc. It has a tremendous amount of history as well as beautiful attractions such as the Peter Iredale shipwreck, beautiful beaches, and Coffenbury Lake. It has 174 full hookup sites(including some pull through), 302 partial hookup sites, 6 tent sites, Yurts, Cabins, a camp for hikers and bikers, and great day use areas. Some of the other amenities include heated showers, flush toilets, bike rentals, ice and firewood for sale, and a fairly new disc golf course. The camp sites are typically private with tree/underbrush dividing each site. 

  

My family booked 5 separate sites in 1 of the 12 campground loops and 1 other in a neighboring loop that had full hookups for my inlaws RV. Each site came with a paved pad to park your vehicle on, fire pit, and picnic table. We stayed in a partial hookup site though we were only tent camping, and having the water and electric right in our site was very convenient for charging phones/accessories and doing the dishes. We also truly appreciated having the paved pad, where we set up our tent which provided a great, level place that did not flood and stayed fairly dry(despite the 2 straight days of rain we received during our 5 day stay:) 

  

We thoroughly enjoyed the bike paths at the park, taking multiple bike trips as large groups or just my family by itself. From the campground you are able to ride to the beach, the lake, the Battery Russel(a military installation), and many other locations, though some are quite a distance away. All the bike paths are well paved and wide. 

  

Our stay was also unique in that my wife and I got married in one of the day use shelters that are available for rent, and are located near Coffenbury Lake. The shelters can be rented for 50$ a day and have a sink, indoor fire pit, electricity, and include seating for up to 300 people(though this many would be a stretch to fit under the structure). The area surrounding the structure has horseshoe pits and a volleyball court. This was a fantastic way to spend our wedding with our small family group who attended(20-25 people), and we enjoyed every minute we had at this beautiful location. 

  

Needless to say, Fort Stephens will always have a special place in my heart, and I highly recommend it as a must-stay location to anyone visiting the area.

As a Ranger, I sometimes receive gear to test from the awesome people at The Dyrt, and on this trip I had the opportunity to review the [Midland X-Talker T65VP3 Two-Way Radio.](https://midlandusa.com/product/t65vp3/) 

  

This radio is awesome! It comes in a woodland camo color which was very cool, and boasts a 32 mile range when out in the open. Other specs include 36 channels, 121 privacy codes, an option to channel scan, and Midland’s patented weather alert and weather scan technology. I was able to use this radio in many different locations while camping at Fort Stephens State Park on the Oregon coast, and was very impressed by its durability, clear sound when listening and talking, and the battery life. 

  

We mostly used the radios as a way to communicate between myself, my wife, and my in laws while camping in the part because the cell reception was very poor. Our in-laws were camping in a completely different loop so these radios made communication easy. We also used it with our son when he would want to go off on his own(he is 11 years old). We would hand him the radio and off he would go, with the missive that he had to check in via radio every 10 minutes or so. This was so convenient and such a great piece of mind. 

  

We tested the range of the radio while driving on the coast in multiple vehicles, walking through the coastal woodlands, on the beach, and in the campground. When unobstructed we were able to get signal at quite a distance(the furthest we tested was around 10 miles), but when in the forest or obstructed driving through the woods we were only able to get around 1-2 miles apart before losing signal. The landscape in Oregon is very heavily wooded and I attribute much of this loss of signal to the obstruction. 

  

The battery life was also great and we were able to leave the radio on when traveling around the park for nearly 24 hours with varied levels of use before recharging was necessary. The durability was great and they sustained many drops from bicycles and even sat in a puddle inside a tent overnight without any ill effects(take this with a grain of salt however since I don’t believe the electronics were submerged but just the shell). 

  

The quality showed when using this product, and I will definitely buy Midland products again!

Ranger Review: Midland X-TalkerT65 Two-Way Radio at Fort Stevens State Park

Many options exist for camping here, weather it be cabins, yurts, tents or rv they’ve got you covered. Features drive on beach access at the Peter iredale wreck site. Close to many other popular beaches/towns. If you’ve been worried about the mosquitoes from the past it seems they’ve figured it out now and you should be pretty good.

Great forest spots next to the Pacific Ocean 

This campsite is located in the middle of Fort Stevens park, walking distance to the beach with the shipwreck.
It is a super nicely well maintained campsite with all the amenities you can wish for.
Without reservation it's pretty hard to find a site here, even in off season, so make sure to book ahead.

One of the largest campgrounds I’ve ever stayed at. Great spot tho private spots nice bathrooms all the different beaches are great to explore and there’s even the lake to chill in. 

Huge state park

I stayed here one night while on a tour of the Washington and Oregon coast. The hiker-biker area is nicely set up. 
There is a great area with lockers for the campers to put food or other items in. And each locker has an electric outlet so you can charge your phone and other items. The bathroom is conveniently located near the campsite, my only criticism is that the light on the side of the building is VERY BRIGHT so choose your campsite with this in mind.

Large Campground

We didn’t have a reservation for the campground the afternoon we decided to stop in July. To reserve a yurt typically requires a minimum of two nights. We were fortunate to get a yurt (number 7) for one night in July as a walk in. The ranger was shocked as they are usually sold out months in advance. There is a fire pit and picnic table outside each yurt. The flaps on the windows can be rolled up and down to adjust the airflow. The bathhouse is within walking distance but showed full quickly in the morning. This was a nice park with several things to see and do. Would stay here again if in the area.

Coming back

I love Ft Stevens! This is such a beautiful campground and piece of Oregon coast.  It’s a very large, spread out campground ⛺️.  The showers and bathrooms are clean and plenty throughout.  Lots of coastal land to explore and enjoy.

Beautiful OR Coast

When we lived in Oregon we would come here every year for the Crab Festival!  Fort Stevens has something for everyone.  The campground is clean, easy to access, and has a lot of room for everyone.  Please make sure to make reservations early if there are events around as they fill up super fast.  Fort Stevens was once the primary military defense installation.  The fort saw service for 84 years, from the Civil War to World War II. Today, Fort Stevens has grown into a 4,300-acre park offering an exploration of history, nature, and many recreational opportunities. The park also has a network of paved bicycle trails and hiking trails that allow for exploring a variety of habitats.  One of my favorite places to visit is the wreck of the Peter Iredale. There is beach access and you can see the wreckage of the Peter Iredale– which ran aground in 1906. Parts of the hull are still visible, showing just how dangerous the Columbia River Bar is.

Good sites, clean area, nice hiking. There’s a lake in the state park as well as lots of beach access. Very dog friendly. Awesome rangers! 

Well taken care of

The park is large but there are only around 5 tent spots available.  The tent sites are nice size and level with a fire ring and picnic table.  There is lots of foliage around the site so you have some privacy.  The tent area is on the same loop as cabins so there isn't a lot of RV traffic.  There is lots to do at this park and wildlife to see. The only down side is the loop is close to the entrance so there is some traffic noise as campers come and go through the night.

Nice park, great trails

Love this place.  It's always so booked up and we've tried every year to get in and finally did.  Be really aware of your rig and the spots. Some are hard to maneuver.  Tons of bike trails, walking paths, nature, beaches. 

Stunning

But that’s to be somewhat expected thanks to COVID-19. There were some inconveniences, the biggest and most noticeable being the closure of all the showers. The firewood and ice sales are self serve and cash only right now (no campsite deliveries, I’m not sure about ADA). All of the yurts and cabins are closed. Despite all of that, the park was still very full and there were a lot of people. We were there for 6 days and had a great time with the kids on the beach and the lake. The bike trails are the best of any state park in Oregon. The wreck of the Peter Iredale is still there, as well as the fort and batteries. All in all, still one of the best parks around, just remember to pack away your food and trash at night. 

Definitely a different experience than previous years ...

We are a group of two traveling with a truck towing a 21 foot trailer. We booked a pull through site (plenty of these and more back-ins) and it fit boats the truck and trailer. All parking spots are well marked. Clean area with picnic table and fire pit. Something to note is we wish we brought our bikes. The park is so big and we didn’t  get to explore beyond the RV parking area into the state park area. If you have a chance visit the maritime museum in Astoria. There’s also a laundromat outside the park that we’d definitely use again. It was super clean and convenient to get to.

This park has everything. Trails,fresh water lakes and large day use areas. Although most of the spots are very close together with little to no separation from one to the next it was still pretty sweet. We had hookups(not sewer) and lots of fluffy squirrel buddies in our camp to entertain us.  The beach is far!!!! Like 2 miles far. But they have really nice trails to take you there. The lake was nice not sure if any fish were in it but we tried to catch one no luck.  The wind is pretty constant on the lake and definitely on the beach but the camp site was shielded from it by the trees so that was nice.  One complaint is the lack of signage very hard to figure out where anything is and the map almost makes it worse lol. The sunsets are worth the effort to get to the beach for sure.  

Lots of trails

If your into American History this is your place to visit!!! Explore Fort Stevens Barricks, Peter Iredale Shipwreck, Lewis and Clark State Park. Also there are many hiking paths, the beach and near by towns to explore like Astoria, OR. Along the beach we took our Jeep Wrangler to go exploring and collected huge Sand dollars, walked our dogs and engage in the Oregon clam diggers! The Rv Park was a awesome experience and will definitely be back again!!!

Awesome Adventure 

Great spots and lots to choose from.  Each spot is spacious and large spots for bigger rigs.  The bathrooms are clean and the showers are hot!  This is a great spot to ride your bike and take in the beautiful scenery around you.  

Love this State Park!

Can’t say enough about Fort Stevens.  We trailer camped with friends in December, 2020.  Fortunately, the weather was great and we spent most of our time hiking, flying kites and walking the beach.   The camp staff was pleasant and respectful of Covid-19 safe practices.  The Oregon camp reservation website was intuitive.  We plan to return.

Wonderful Location 

A great state park, incredibly well organized with great facilities and space.  The location is 10/10, as it sits on a beautiful long beach with sand dunes and a ship wreck.

Large and Organized 

I went in April and there were a bunch of open camp spots to choose from but I imagine it fills up in the summer months! They offer tent, full-hook up and electric. The sites were all paved with lots of beautiful, tall, shady trees. Nice, clean bathrooms with showers. Access to lots of walking and biking trails. The beach was just a short drive from my spot in Loop G. Cool shipwreck to explore on the beach plus the option to drive on the beach, driving access is just a bit South of the shipwreck. Both dirt and paved biking paths all over the campground and park. Coffenbury Lake has a 2-3 mile dirt path around the lake. Looks like a nice spot to paddle board and I saw some people fishing. There are great views of the Columbia River, with the huge ships coming and going, in the historic area of the park (Civil War Fort and Batteries). The CG/park is a 20 minute drive to Astoria. Ate at the Rogue Brewery and grabbed at coffee at Pier 39 Public House.

Fort Stevens is a fantastic state park facility.  The campground is large and extensive with options for every kind of camper from tent spaces to yurts.  

  

There are lots of trails to ride bikes on and nearby beaches to relax and enjoy.  As well as a few places with military history displays.

  
We've seen elk right in the campground happily munching on grass as campers walk and ride bikes nearby.

BIG campground with spots for all types of camping. Tons of walking, hiking, and biking trails. Bathrooms are kind of sparse so long walks to restrooms. Fun things to see at the beach with the ship and old military forts.

Largest campground this side of the Mississippi! But you cant tell it's full of other campers as it is lush. Fully and beautifully forested. I stayed in a yurt! I honestly thought it would be empty but no it came with electricity, bunk beds, and a futon. As well as two chairs and a table. And a very helpful mirror. Being June the yurt was hot inside but I was able to open the window flaps to let air in and at night when it got chilly there was a heater. At the door there was what I an assuming a dehumidifier that hummed through the night. 

You park and get out to check in and they give you a map to find your spot. 

The best part was the beach with a wreck of an old ship on it. Theres also old war time ruined to tromp on. Loved it here.

Massive and so pretty

This was a fantastic state park, very well planned.  This is definitely a park if you have kids.  There are plenty miles of paved bike trails.  We did arrive after a bit of rain and the mosquitos were crazy bad.  We enjoyed the nature trails and bike paths

My Favorite Campground in Oregon

3rd time here in the past 9 months.  Love the location and accommodations, but the mosquitos were TERRIBLE.  So bad we probably will never go back this time of year.

Great spot, but bring something for MOSQUITOS!!!

You would never guess that Ft. Stevens is one of the largest public campgrounds in the US because it is so thoughtfully laid out (it doesn’t appear to be crowded at all) and is so quiet. Lovely sites with good spacing. Easy in/ out for big rigs. The mosquitoes were not a problem at all if your site is on the east side of the CG. If it is on the west or anywhere near the lake, they can be very bad. The bike riding is amazing and the old fort is a lot of fun to explore! My only criticisms are that there are no trash cans at all except for those at the front of the park and a couple by the lake. It also sure would be nice to have a little AT&amp;T coverage somewhere besides at the beach. 

What an awesome campground! 

We had an awesome 3 night stay at Fort Stevens! We were able to walk to the beach and see the famous ship wreck. Our campsite was small, but we enjoyed it. We loved exploring the state park. We visited the military fort, which had so much history. We would definitely stay here again, just not in June. The mosquitoes were ferocious. 

Beach, History, and Huge Campground 

The campsite, although large, was well spaced and had water and electric hookups, rare for a State park. Tons of beautiful paths. We were able to take our bikes to the beach and ride the coast to a jetty. Later that day, we skipped over to a cute lake and launched our kayaks while it was still light out. When we went exploring the paths later on, we discovered they have WWII bunkers. You can also see Roosevelt Elk everywhere. Everything was clean and quiet. It was a great three days.

Highly recommend this park for families. Make sure to bring your bikes. Very well maintained bike trails connect you to so many activities. Historical sites, the ocean, and lake are just minutes from each other. The showers were free. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Everyone was smiling. 

This park has EVERYTHING! 

Beautiful location! History is fun!

The park itself is great. There are a ton of bike paths and your entrance into your campsite also allows you access to the park the next day so you can explore after check out if you want. 

Quiet hours are not enforced. There was a rowdy group near me that was loud well past 10p. 

I only stayed one night but would like to come back again. So much to explore!

Cell service is non existent in park FYI. 

One of the best state parks!

We didn’t realize how big this campground was until we got there. Over 560 sites! Camping world! The sites are not terribly private but it still beats most RV parks. Like the previous poster said, quiet hours were not enforced and there was a loud group across from us active until well past 10. It’s an impressive place though with lots of volunteers picking up trash and being helpful. One did enforce some daytime quiet with loud music coming from the rowdy group. We ended up not staying long but I’m glad we saw this place. If you want to drive out the spit, to the very “end” of Oregon, there’s a bunch of road construction. You turn into a break in the fence and will very soon be driving on the beach! Everyone is doing it and mostly fishing. It was an adventurous surprise for sure! 

One more thing, there was some rather loud aircraft flying occasionally overhead, one came over in the middle of the night. 

Largest campground this side of the Mississippi!

Our first trip to Fort Stevens in September. We camped here 5 days and was in spot J-195, not a real great spot for us because it is 90\* to the road and because of the tent water drain was close at the right side of the driveway it was real difficult backing in our 21’ trailer. We found that only loops(H, I, L and M) have complete full hookups and not just water and electric like(J) loop. After looking around we found many other much better spots we could camp in. Most camp sites have the Fire Ring and picnic table in the back of the site close to the asphalt driveway where if you open your awning up it would overhang the fire ring and not be useable, like our site was. Many sites are very skinny and only have room for the asphalt driveway and maybe 10 additional feet beside the driveway. And most sites are only 35-45 feet deep.

  

We drove to many of the fort sites like the gun bunker and the reconstructed wooded fort itself as it was very close to our site. Warrington was also close bye for shopping at Walmart, Costco and many others. Then we stopped at the Fish Mongers in Hammond and ate cod fish and chips, good food! We also drove to the Astoria column. We haven’t been there for more than 15-20 years and found it great looking, and the view from up there was spectacular overlooking the Columbia River and Astoria.

  

While we were here, we saw 3 Elk’s eating tree leaves right across from our camp site. They were not spooked by anything and calmly walked and ate down the road. We also walked to the beach and saw the ship wreck and found you can drive on the beach if you have 4-wheel drive. The bathrooms were clean and the whole campground have many camping host’s per loop to keep things is good working order. A very large campground with over 300 sites.

  

Most of the camp sites are close together and have little of no cover between sites. Many nights from our camp we heard kids playing, adults talking, laughing and other loud noise close by.

  

We used our American the Beautiful Senior pass to get free access to many of the paid Federal site locations close bye and this has saved us many costly fees.

Our first trip to Fort Stevens in September. 

Large, well-equipped campground w/ showers and flush toilets. Primarily closely spaced paved spurs for camper trailers and RVs. 
Only had full hookup RV sites available, so a bit pricier than I'd have liked (~$32), but we didn't reserve ahead of time. Around 300 sites too so privacy isn't really an option. However, the park grounds are very well kept with miles of trails (many ADA paved) for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. 
Great mushroom foraging here too. Found a good flush of Oysters (pl. ostreatus) that we cooked for breakfast. Free mushroom walks available most weekends in Oct.

Big campground, good amenities

Amazing place!

We chose Fort Stevens for our maiden voyage in our first camper. The concern of being side to side with my neighbor quickly went away as we pulled up to loop H, site 23. It was the perfect maiden voyage that provided some privacy along with hook up conveniences and fun local attractions.

Best of both worlds

Great camping spots with SO many walking trails!!! The forts are very cool and the shipwreck is very neat!

Great place!

Large sites, miles of bike &amp; hiking trails, a lake and the beach.  Nearby town of Astoria is great.   

Huge State CG with lots to do

This is a terrific park.  Clean, family friendly and you really feel like you're part of nature.  We saw lots of wildlife and it was just a short drive into Astoria for some dinner.

Beautiful and full of wildlife

This park is absolutely huge. I reserved a spot in Loop M and I think we were the only campers we saw the whole time, which I guess midweek in February might not be that surprising for such a large campground. Every site we saw seemed beautiful and private though. We only spent 1 night here, but had a great time visiting Astoria (just about 15-20 minutes away), and made it to the shipwreck on the way out. Facilities were immaculate. Will definitely return.

Incredibly beautiful, private campground

Although we loved being so close to the various hiking trails within the park, the campgrounds themselves are designed more for RVs. We had to see the ranger several times before we found a site that has enough green space to pitch a tent. Rangers we're super helpful throughout our ordeal. 

Otherwise, Fort Stevens is a great place to explore. 


Great location for RVs but not so great for tents

I stayed in loop M. The campsite would have been fantastic except for the invasion of mosquitos due to a nearby stagnant (and toxic looking) creek. Impossible to enjoy the great outdoors when the infestation was so bad. 

Otherwise the campground was well maintained. I didn’t explore the other loops so can’t speak to whether this was just isolated to our area, or perhaps it’s a seasonal issue, but something should be done about the contaminated creek so campers can actually sit outside and not get eaten alive. 

Great, if you love mosquitos!

This place is a great escape but still so close to the near town of astoria. The park is huge with regular and rv sites, yurts, beach’s, fields and even a ship wreck. You can forage for mushrooms here in the fall if you know what you’re doing. Bathrooms are nice nice as are the yurts. You’ll love it. 

The best!

This is a great campground. There are plenty of elk and deer walking around. Lots of sites. Shirt walk to beach and Fort Stevens. Electric and water hookup. Dump station

Great campground 

Love staying here!  Big campground with lots of great bike paths to all the attractions.  Rent a bike if needed.  The shipwreck and military history are wonderful.  Highly recommend!

Visit the shipwreck!

A fantastic camping experience at this park. Spaces are spacious and private. Miles of bike/hiking trails. Beautiful overview at the mouth of the Columbia river. Mosquitoes were not present.

I pulled in here as the ranger station was closing. $43 a night for a partial hookup site. Spacious, clean sites with bathrooms and showers. 

Another great option on the 101

Lots of things to do in this area. park is super well maintained. Trash services, awesome showers, reasonable price. You can walk to the historic boat wreck. Lots of walking and biking trails. Spots were level but close together, but it was quiet.

Quick drive to Astoria if your a Goonies fan. There were elk walking around the neighborhoods. Just love the vibe!

Beach, great location 

The state park (SP) was fairly easy to find as there are SP signs well before the park, and all the way to the park regardless of which direction you are coming in from. WAZE and our RV GPS wanted to take us down other streets, but we held the course following the signs. There are multiple ways to get to the park, but the signs lead you to the most RV friendly roads. We turned into the park entrance, where there was a huge parking lot and a sign to register. Check-in was quick and easy. Our cost was an $8 online booking fee, with both of us having the Oregon State Park Disabled Veteran Pass. This pass provides 10 days of free camping per month to disabled veterans, resident or non-resident. We proceeded right out of the parking lot and to the H loop, where we drove to site H10 with FHUs. This is an old loop with lots of trees, but the road was passable with our 40’ fifth wheel. However, site H10 has a brush on the driver’s side and low-hanging trees on the passenger side. It’s a tight back-in, and you have to hit the pad exactly to keep from scraping the driver’s side, and we brushed branches on our 13.5’ roof. After several tries and some minor scraping, we got into the site. We asked a park ranger if we could trim the branches so they wouldn’t scrape the roof, especially in the wind. The ranger gave us permission to hand trim. On select loops(there’s a sign as you exit the registration parking lot on where) they sell firewood by the camp host areas for $7 a bundle. They also sell kindling for $4 a bundle. The water pressure was okay, and we had no issues with the sewer or electric. As we were here for two weeks and football junkies, we tried to get Starlink to connect with no luck as there were too many trees. We had 2 bars on Verizon, so we were able to get some internet with our MiFi. Fort Stevens is a huge campground with a variety of site sizes and utility options. The best loop for big rigs, in our opinion, is the newer O loop(water and electric 50/30/20 AMP only) that doesn’t have as many trees or shrubs between sites. The O loop’s even-numbered sites 2-26 are big-rig friendly and open enough to provide satellite shots, especially for Starlink. In general, just our opinion, loops B, C, D, E, F, G&amp; M, are better suited for tents and/or shorter rigs(up to 35’). Class A's and 5th wheels may have trouble with overhead branches. Loops I, J, and N have plenty of sites that will fit big rigs, but read reviews as loops I and J are heavily wooded with overhead branches and brush/shrubs separating sites like in the H loop. There are a ton of trails to walk or bike. We really enjoyed all that Fort Stevens State Park has to offer, with a side benefit being all the elk roaming around the campground and deer hanging out at our campsite.

Lots to do in this State Park

There's not much to add to all of the other reviews except that we were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed being here for a few days.  We happened to get one of just a couple remaining sites mid-week in late June.  The park was full.  And yet there are so many places to explore and relax that we never felt too crowded.   This was our second trip out with our 8 year old grandson.  We didn't lack for activity, for sure!

We checked it all out!  The batteries, the Peter Iredale, the lake and the Jetty.  The only thing we might have enjoyed having were our bikes.  However with a dog, walking is better.

Great Family Campground

Sites are mostly in shaded wood areas but since hookups are available solar needs shouldn't be a concern.  Most sites offer good privacy.  Hiking opportunities as well as to local historical military battery (big gun installation). They guns are gone at this site, but there is one on display a short drive away.
