The Best Equestrian Camping Near Libby, Oregon

Wild Mare Horse Campground is located along the central Oregon coast, 22 miles south of the town of Reedsport, and 2 miles north of Coos Bay. Horse campers come here to explore the Wild Mare Horse Trail and take in captivating views of Oregon's Pacific Coast, just a half mile from the campground. Recreation Equestrian campers are fond of the Wild Mare Horse Trail #4500. This trail begins under a canopy of alder and spruce, and then emerges into an open dune area that crosses down to the beach. Some parts of the dunes are designated for hiking and horseback riding only, while off-road vehicle enthusiasts can roam free on the dunes north of the campground. Facilities The year-round campground is equipped with drinking water, vault toilets, a picnic area, picnic tables, campfire rings, trash bins and recycling receptacles. Horses are welcome in the 12 corrals provided. Head to Horsfall Campground for the use of token operated showers. Natural Features Tucked among shore pine, Douglas fir and huckleberry, Wild Mare is part of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, known for its wind-sculpted sand dunes towering up to 500 feet above sea level. This region is in the southern tip of Siuslaw National Forest, hugging the Pacific Ocean. Nearby Attractions Scenic water attractions are in every direction of the campground. Head south to Coos Bay, west to the Pacific, and east to Horsfall Lake. ADA Access: N

Wild Mare Horse Campground

Bullards Beach is a large, family-oriented park located at the mouth of the Coquille River, two miles north of Bandon. The campground is nestled among shore pines and protected from strong ocean breezes. Visitors can enjoy strolling on the beach, riding horses, exploring a lighthouse and excellent fishing and crabbing in the river.

Horse Play
Equestrians will enjoy the park's horse camp and access to 11 miles of trails and four miles of beach and dunes. Sites feature double or quadruple corrals. 

Hiking and Biking
A mostly paved path to the beach begins near the campground registration booth. The path weaves for just over a mile through the open, grassy fields and lowland forest to the sandy dunes. Enjoy views of the Coquille River and Bandon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge on the opposite bank.

Explore 4.5 miles of beach at the end of Bullards Beach Road. Bring your mountain bike to ride the hard-packed sand along the edge of the surf, or just enjoy a stroll along the ocean shore.

A refurbished hiker/biker camp popular with those hiking the Oregon Coast Trail offers storage lockers with solar powered USB charging ports.

Bullards Beach State Park

Located at the state's westernmost tip, and perched over the Pacific Ocean, Cape Blanco features a 19th-century lighthouse and an early Irish settler's home. Use our private, sheltered campsites as your base camp while you enjoy the park's history, trails and rugged coastline.

More than eight miles of hiking trails lead to the beach, viewpoints of ocean vistas, fishing spots along the Sixes River, and the lighthouse. On horseback, follow a seven-mile trail or enjoy a 150-acre open riding area across from the horse camp.

Horse campers will enjoy twelve new pipe corrals, installed in early 2018 in partnership with Oregon Equestrian Trails. These corrals are available first-come, first-served for Cape Blanco horse campers. Those with additional horses can trailer-tie them or use portable corrals.

Nestled between the Willamette and Columbia rivers is some of the best camping in Oregon. Near Portland, OR, campers and RVers can stop in the city to stock up on supplies before heading to campsites near Mount Hood. Surrounded by numerous national forests, parks and recreation areas, explore the many miles of trails on foot, bike, or horseback spread across millions of acres. Animal lovers can visit a nearby hobby farm and rescue, home to pronghorn sheep, mule deer, and more.
