About Marshall Tent Cabins

Marshall Tent Cabins are located in Marshall, NC, a hub for artists and outdoor lovers, and just 30 minutes from Asheville. There are 2 tent cabins, each of which allows up to 2 guests. Pisgah National Forest and Mount Mitchell State park are both within 25 miles of the site. You'll find a bath house with all the amenities for showering.

While in the area, you'll have the opportunity to go zip lining, rafting, kayaking and hiking. Downtown Marshall nearby has restaurants, bars and a brewery.

Ranger Review: Grubstick at Marshall Tent Cabins, NC



These tent cabins nestled on quiet private property in the hills of Western North Carolina are the perfect glamping getaway. With a luxury bathhouse and a wide, open meadow to run around in, all needs are met.

HOSTS: Hosts Kenny and Stuart are excellent and very prompt with communication. Do not hesitate to ask them questions.

ARRIVAL & AMMENITIES: When we arrived we were greeted with a neat and cozy queen bed and fresh linens, lanterns, and a cooler. The tent cabins are enclosed with hearty netting to keep out bugs, but still let in all of the sounds and smells of nature. A deck with adirondack chairs makes for a great spot to sit with conversation or a good book.

The path to get to the cabins is only 1/4 of a mile but require good shoes to traverse the rocky walk. Arrive before dark and bring your headlamp as there is little to no guiding lights after dark.

BATHROOMS: We set our things down and wandered up the path to the bathrooms, which are new and luxurious with a domestic toilet and a roomy hot-water shower. The bathhouse is shared with the other cabin, but each cabin has their own private enclosed section of the bathhouse making it private. The bathhouse is located in a beautiful open meadow along with the fire pit.

FIREPIT: Firewood is provided but it is not split, nor guaranteed to be bone dry. We enjoyed splitting logs, got the fire going, and started making dinner at dusk when the real magic started to happen. FIREFLIES! It was an early June night and we had our own private show, hundreds of fireflies lighting up the meadow! An incredible sight to see and the privacy of having the meadow to ourselves to witness the spectacle was priceless.

SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE CAMPERS: Definitely arrive before dark as finding the site can be tricky. Bring a headlamp. I would also recommend bringing a solar powered fan with you if camping in the warm summer months. Potable water is provided at the bathhouse but you have to fill the provided water vessel and hike it back to your cabin, so make sure someone is able-bodied and/or request Kenny/Stuart to fill it for you.

I tested out the GrubFork , Grubcage, and Grubpocket.

TELESCOPING ROD: The telescoping rod is super convenient and well-made. Very easy to maneuver the rod in and out and change add-ons.

GRUBFORK: 5 out of 5. Cooking our Trader Joe’s sausage on the Grub fork was a breeze. I love cooking 2 at once, and removing them from the fork was as easy as wrapping the bun around the link and pulling them off. Super clean and easy.

GRUBCAGE: 3 out of 5. We used the grub cage to test out making s’mores. By premaking the s’more sandwich and clamping it in the cage, you avoid mess. But unfortunately what happens is that the graham cracker gets crisped/burned while the marshmallow remains partially roasted inside the sandwich. Still tasty and warm, but not the same gooey mouthfeel you get when roasting a marshmallow straight over the fire.

GRUBPOCKET: 4 out of 5. We wrapped some Trader Joe’s peppered turkey bacon around the grub pocket and loved the results. The clamp to keep the bacon in place worked for the most part, but fell off a couple of times, mostly because the turkey bacon wasn’t very thick. Makes nice and crispy bacon, but you can only cook one piece at a time.

I really enjoyed using the Grubstick and look forward to using the BurgCage for burger patties. I will get a LOT of use out of the GrubFork, and look forward to roasting Brussel sprouts inside the grub cage as an alternative to the s’more task. Overall, a well made product of quality material and craftsmanship.
