Hot Springs Campground

I would consider this one of my favorite campgrounds IF you have a site on the river and if you don't mind a fair walk to the toilets. The campground does not allow trailers on any of the river-front sites, only tents, so we had to park our GO in the next row. Happily we were camping with friends who took a group site on the water, so we spent the days there. The river-side sites are lovely, you're sleeping right next to the French Broad and during the day you can play at the edge. Our group site had a little pool created by previous campers using rocks, so all the young kids could splash to their hearts content. The downside is there is only one flush toilet facility, so if you're in the further sites it's a long trek. They do have porta-potties half-way, but I preferred planning in the walk. The sites are large and wooded, though not so wooded that I would feel comfortable squatting in our campsite. I noticed people from the further sites actually driving their cars up to the bathrooms in the evenings...

This privately-owned campground in the heart of Hot Springs, NC is the perfect place to end a rafting trip on the French Broad River or take a break from an AT thru hike. We met some friends for a full weekend of water fun, including a rafting day and a kayaking day on the French Broad. If you don’t own your own equipment or the skills to navigate a Class III/IV river, there are plenty of companies in the local area that can provide you a guide.

While not the most scenic of campgrounds, it has all the things any rafter or hiker needs – bathrooms/pit toilets and showers, picnic table, and fire pit…and is located just a few minutes walk from a few great restaurants, wifi access at the public library/coffeehouse, and the Hot Springs Spa and Resort (if you want/need a massage and a soak in one of their natural spring water tubs). There are also a few cabins on the property for those not into roughing it.

Most campsites can accommodate multiple tents or sizable RV’s. You have a choice between non-electric and electric sites, which is great for those of us who run on solar power.

While not busy at all during the off-season, this campground can be full on during the high season. Reservations weren’t necessary, but they do take them during the busy times of the year.

Small town, big opportunities for fun

I have stayed in the Hot Springs Campground four times now. Each time the experience has been different. But, each time the experience has been wonderful. With mountains in the distance and the constant rush of the French Broad River, the setting is awesome. Even the occasional train whistle gives me a feeling of nostalgia and of simple days. It is situated along the Appalachian Trail. It is close to white-water outfitters. The town has several good resturants and ice cream. My band and I have even played there for The Wild Goose Festival.

Its Hot in Hot Springs

We spent a pleasant, if muddy, weekend at this campground recently. Sites were not all level. This applied more to be pulled through site we were on, 425, then some of the more level back in sites that were smaller. Our pull through site was quite large. It backed up to the river which was about a two minute walk through the woods away. It was a rainy weekend but we had a great time at the spa. We enjoyed both massages and one of their signature soaks in their mineral tubs. These tubs are private and are filled with heated water from a volcanic fault line. It was great for taking off the damp chill of a Rainy camping weekend. One thing we did not see mentioned in reviews when we were booking was the fact that a train runs directly against the campground. We watched it from the playground. Sidenote, the playground is quite small, see photos. The train was charming the first few times we saw at pier But it was not so great in the middle of the night running about every three hours.

Wooded, relaxing, not so quiet

This campground is in the woods and right on the French Broad River. It isn't the quietest campground as there is a train that goes by and it seemed that the weekend we were there, a lot of groups were there too. However, the Sunday that we were there was a lot quieter as the campground cleared out. The site we were in was pretty level and while we couldn't see the river from our site, we could hear it! There was also a path out of the back of our site that was a quick walk down to the river. The bath houses were fine - clean, but nothing spectacular. The town itself is a cute tiny town right on the Appalachian Trail. A lot of motorcycles visit this area too. We did some fun drives and hikes off the AT and walked to town for both lunch and dinner. We had a great time! There was no cell phone service at all. Just a heads up!

Great clean and safe camp site for the family.  They have RV, deluxe tent and primitive tent sites.  Easy tubing from one end of the campground to the other.  Easy walk into town or easy walk to hike the mountains.  Well maintained and clean bathrooms and showers.

Great family camping

We had a riverside camp site at Hot Springs campground.  The site was huge, our friends have a pop-up camper and we have a jeep with a roof-top tent and we shared one space.  We had room to spare and didnt feel at all crowded.  All sites have fire pits and picnic tables.  The bath house and bathrooms wer very clean - the staff checked on them many times a day and kept them well stocked for the Labor.day holiday weekend.  There are lots of outfitters nearby that offer rafting, tubing, an kayaking on the river, or you can bring your own and put in the t one of the many access points.  We will definitely go back!

Nice clean gated park. Nice big spots. Only 3 fifty amp full hook up sites. Lots of 30 amp and tent camping. Right on the river.

Loved staying here!

Across the road from the “resort and spa” that houses the rent-by-the-hour hot spring hot tubs. Situated along the beautiful French Broad River. They offer cabins (primitive to full amenities), RV sites, tent sites with electric, tent sites without and primitive tent sites way at the beach with no tables or fire rings.  Plenty of shade and trees. Bath houses. The campground is now gated. The AT runs right in front of it as it passes through the adorable little town. There is a little outdoor outfitter, a couple restaurants... beautiful hikes which ever direction you go.

Great place, love the river.  Fireflies every night and within walking/biking distance of a great little town with a coffee shop, brewery, and a few restaurants.

Great Place Next to the River

The tents sites along the river were great, once all of the travel trailers loaded up Sunday morning and pulled out it revealed beautiful grounds.  The restrooms were dated but kept clean through the weekend.  Loved the spa. Amazing views open air hot tubs. Great hiking across the river and cute little town to explore

I came up with two friends for the weekend.  We arrived late, after 9:30 PM, but called ahead and got the gate code.  GPS brought us to the front gate.  

We stayed in a primitive camping spot (G6) on the river.  Highly recommend.  There was good spacing between sites, but not private.  The bathhouse (clean private showers and private bathrooms)  was a 1/4 mile walk from our spot, but a Porta John was close by.  Our particular spot had a lot of shade and easy access to the river.

The French Broad River is good for tubing, kayaking, or floating/wading.  The water was enjoyable this time of year.  We loved the calming sound.

The staff was super responsive and helpful.

Quick Weekend Getaway

The little town of Hot Springs North Carolina is a charming little place with several good food choices and an excellent brewery. The campground sits right on the French broad river which is beautiful and wide. Lots of river rafting opportunities and tubing in the refreshing river. Campground sites are adequate bathroom facilities and showers are spotless. Fantastic place to visit and go to the spa and sit in the natural hot spring water.

Hot Springs Resort Campground

We had a great time! The campsites were clean and well-maintained, although the sides were fairly close together. It was comfortable during the weekdays, but started to get crowded during the weekend. You can walk to the river as well as the town. Highly recommend the Hot Springs hot tubs, Big Pillow Brewing Co for food/drinks, and Artisun for coffee and gifts. Verizon signal very poor and the campground WiFi was borderline unusable. Great place to unplug and disconnect, however!
