Gorges State Park, NC

A fall camping trip from 2011. It's one of the newest State Parks in North Carolina established in 1999 and is the only State Park west of Ashville. Excellent hike-in campsites and beautiful waterfalls.

  • Having only opened in 1999 this park still had that "new park smell" from the abundance of sawdust and the overall shape of some of the trails and campsites. The waterfalls here are amazing and definitely the star attraction of the park. Rainbow Falls is a cascading 150 ft drop that produces a lot of spray. Not much further up the river is Turtleback Falls where you can slide of a 10ft drop into a big pool.
