Bells Island Campground

Coming to North Carolina, coastal camping is something which has to be on your bucket list. I traveled down the highway looking to get closer to Kitty Hawk where I wanted to see some of the many first in flight stops and this place jumped out at me and welcomed me in from the highway.

I stopped and. a local store and they raved about its location and proximity to the water so I simply had to stop and see for myself. I was not disappointed.

If you are looking for waterfront camping and activities I cannot see any location being more serene especially around sunrise and sunset. The water front stretches for miles and is so peaceful. Despite being located near the town of Bells itself you feel removed from civilization and next to your new close friend at the campground, where everyone seemed very nice.

As a tent camper I found the only downfall to be that the facility only had one shower area for the entire camp, and on a busy weekend like when I was there on a holiday that could be a bit of a juggling act for everyone. The bathrooms themselves were nice, though a bit dated and the entire camp was quaint.

They had a dock and launch which made for perfect water activities and when I was there they had many outdoor activities for everyone to enjoy.

When you think of one of those cute communities nestled right on the east coast you see in your mind something that looks just like this place. It was ideal!

TIPS:

*   When traveling in this area check out the slightly strange and interesting spot Diggers Dungeon, a monster truck Mecca that will bring up a few memories even if you aren't really a fan. This spot is really interesting and has a diner, petting zoo and even tours of the shop where they put together the most famous monster truck of all times "Gravedigger"
*   Bring your water toys. This place is the perfect site for getting out the jet ski or just floating in the amazing feeling waters.

Peaceful Waterside Camping

Lots are level, grassy, fire ring and picnic table available. Walk to dock overlooking the bay waterfront. Easy drive to the outerbanks and activities. The manager is always available by phone and in person in the late afternoon. Reservations and cancellations are flexible. A beautiful view, quiet area away a quick drive from the highway. 

Bells Island

Very quiet park, we do love it here! for fishing, swimming and has a boat launch. RVs are welcome with hookups and the price to stay the night is very inexpensive. There are bath houses. Definitely stay under the tress , the sun can get pretty hot but nothing that a nice dip in the sound will help! 

Low key camping 

Bill met us at the entrance and led us to our site. He was very nice and helped us get backed in. The site also has water and electricity.

There seem to be quite a few full timers at this park, so we felt a little like a sore thumb. The bathroom facilities were not clean or very well maintained. Our grass site probably would have been fine had it not rained but we ended up in a bit of a mud pit.

The sunrise view in the morning was very pretty.

We just needed somewhere to park while passing through and this got the job done for that.

This campground is ok

I arrived here around 8:30 pm after being turned away from nearby Northwest River Park &amp; Campground. Apparently they don't want your money after a certain hour. The host at Bells Island Campground was happy to take my money and show me to a lovely campsite right on the water. I set up my tent in the dark, but discovered in the morning that I was on a big lawn with shade trees and a lovely view of Currituck Sound. My campsite had a solidly-built picnic table, a water spigot, and even a trash can.

The bathroom here was a little funky in its design and layout, but it was clean and served well enough. Overall, I couldn't find anything wrong with this campground, especially at the low price point. Management here is doing a great job.
