Throughout the Lincoln National Forest you are allowed to do what is called 'dispersed camping'. This is a rustic experience where you are allowed to drive up to 300' off of an open public road onto USFS lands to park and camp.  No permits are needed for such activity and no cost is associated with this camping experience. Be sure to bring what you need, especially water, and also pack out what you pack in.

Sleepy Grass offers a total of 15 units of which 2 are double and 3 are triple units leaving 10 single units. Located just south of the Village of Cloudcroft, this site offers many sites for RV's, tents and campers. RV's limited to >30' in length. (Sacramento District Camping Brochure)

Tents are allowed and RVs limited to a maximum of 30' in length.

Lower Karr Canyon Campground has undeveloped campsites scattered above and below the Karr Canyon Picnic Area. Forest Road 63 is gravel and can be rough. Fire rings are available. Tent camping is allowed here and there are a number of lovely spots for you to choose from, all of which are accessible by walking in to the site from the parking area.
