World-renowned for its 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops nestled in gray and tan limestone, Valley of Fire State Park contains ancient, petrified trees and petroglyphs dating back more than 2,000 years. A Visitor Center provides exhibits on the geology, ecology, prehistory and history of the park and nearby region. The park also hosts an Annual Atlatl Competition in which participants test their skills with replicas of ancient spears. Open year round, the park has numerous campsites equipped with shaded tables, grills and water, as well as many intriguing trails to tempt hikers.

 Valley of Fire Camping: There are two campgrounds with a combined total of 72 units. Campsites are equipped with shaded tables, grills, water and restrooms. A dump station and showers are available. All campsites are first-come, first-served. A camping limit of 14 days in a 30-day period is enforced.

 RV Camping: RV sites with power and water hookups are available.

 Group Area: There are three group areas, each accommodating up to 45 people, though parking is limited. These sites are available for overnight camping and picnicking by reservation only. Call the park for reservations.

Atlatl Rock Campground — Valley of Fire State Park

Pulled in and got lucky space open right across from the restroom/showers, beautiful weather. Several animal sightings Bighorn Sheep, large lizard and prairie dogs! Great time! 

October camping in Valley of Fire 

Either of the two campgrounds at Valley of Fire are excellent. I can't believe this park isn't more popular. We like it better than Death Valley. 

The first campground you come to is Arch Rock. I think there are even better sites at Atlatl Rock next door but this is the only site with showers. And really you can't go wrong!!!

So many amazing campsites tucked into the stunning rock landscape. The layout makes the sites very private and the facilities are nice and clean. 

This campground doesn't have showers but you can easily walk or drive next door to Arch Rock and use their showers. They are located in the back of the bathrooms and are individual doors for each private shower. (free, not coin operated) 

One of my all time Favorites 

This State Park is super underrated and is a definite must see if headed on the 15 towards Utah.   Beautiful Red Rock everywhere!  The campsite is well maintained and there are even showers! 

Arch Rock Campground and Valley of Fire State Park 

My wife and I had part of our campervan honey moon road trip extravaganza at these campgrounds. Beautiful scenery from where the campground is located and easy to find.

Small fee for entry but well worth it. petrified wood and red rock formations make this a unique hiking spot. The history is rich and amazing. Well worth any drive. Valley I fire state park is only 40 miles outside of Vegas. Warning though the summer tempatures are no joke here.

I stayed at one of the group sites while doing a geology field school. This is such a fantastic park! So many trails to explore, and beautiful views no matter where you are. Despite being unusually cool and rainy while I was there, the mountains were spectacular. The fire pits were wonderfully set up, just perfect for some peacefully guitar playing in the evenings. The shelter over the tables was great too, though it does let some rain in if there is any wind. It was a great place to eat, and to get some work done too! The other group sites are far enough away that you forget you aren't the only one there!

Group site is sublime

Beautiful place that looks like no other place on earth. Two different campsites with in the park both have flushable toilets and shaded tables with firerings. There are showers available also Campsites are very nice, but don't spend all your time time there get out and explore this is a truley remarkable place. If you can only do one hike I recommend White Domes, but in the summer it is not advisable to do any hiking. It is usually about ten degrees hotter here then in Las Vegas. I highly recommend camping from October through April, but arrive early because the campsites do fill up fast.

Feels like another planet, but what BEAUtiful one!!!!!

We visited Valley of Fire in January when the temperatures where quite comfortable. The vastness of the place is overwhelming and inviting at the same time. No showers at the campsites but the views and solitude makes up for it. The Park Rangers are friendly and professional and will answer any questions you have. Great, great, great place.

January in the Valley of Fire

I LOVE Valley of Fire, but it is advisable to only go during the cooler months (Oct-May). There is no cell service at the campsites, clean restrooms, clean sites, water at taps, all sites first come first serve. You will feel like you are on another planet.

A little piece of heaven

If you stay here stay in an RV . The tent sites are exposed to the elements and you have to pitch your tent on sharp rocks. When we stayed in our RV it was a great experience. The way the campground is set up the rock formations block your views from your neighbors so you feel very secluded. The hikes we so much fun here. We hiked up to fire wave, the elephant, and hiked the prospect trail. Late fall is the perfect time to go so you don't melt.

Site #7 at Arch Rock, it's close to the bathroom, has a beautiful (almost private) canyon starting at the site, a shrub next to the tent pad which is fair shade in the afternoon, a covered picnic area and table, and water tap right next to the tent pad. 

A great park to visit with my dog, the park allows dogs as long as they are on a leash (6ft max).  

Was there in mid october, the day was warm as expected, it cooled off in the evening.  You could sleep with windows open and no rain-fly on the tent, in fact, it got a bit too warm overnight sealed up. 

The majority of campers were in rv's and amazing vehicles you'd see at the Overland expo.  I didn't stay long enough to use the showers, no idea where they even were. 

Lots of trails and beautiful places to photograph.  I saw a few meteors at night.  Bighorn sheep, rabbits, birds and tarantulas were seen. 

Fall Escape to Valley of Fire

This is an amazing state park whether you are camping or just visiting. Full of picturesque rock formations and great hiking. The campground is nestled up right up against the rock formations so you can wake up and step out of your tent and enjoy the beauty first thing in the morning. The campsites also offer shaded tables so you can get out of the desert sun.

While we were there, we were lucky enough to see some of the resident big horn sheep. We were a little early for the catcus flowers, but there was still lots of beauty to see.

The state park offers tons of hiking trails to keep you busy. The nearby Lake Mead Recreation area is worth a trip too, or at least a drive through -- stunning hikes and pulloffs there too.

Fantastic Desert Destination

This is a great place to camp and hike with in a short drive of Las Vegas. What I liked the best about the campground is that the camp sites, while not very private, bump up against huge boulders which provide either shade from the sun or wind and give a sense of being small in a big world (if that makes any sense). Campsites also have a nice pavilion for shade as well. I liked the level, sandy tent pads and the grills as well as the campfire rings (usually you don't find grills AND campfire rings). If you want a bit more privacy, get one of the walk in sites which are in a nice quiet canyon. Lots of great hiking in this park with the opportunities to see petroglyphs and petrified trees.

Valley of Fire State Park

We stayed here one night, mostly for the showers, they were wet and amazing and beautiful.

Campsites had the typical amenities, it was pretty crowded when we were there and from what we heard, they fill up a lot of the time.

The park has tons of amazing hikes, when we visited, we saw a tarantula in real life!

There is also free camping along the road about 30 minutes outside the park to the west.

SHOWERS!

We stayed at Atlatl Rock campground pretty briefly at the beginning of May. Due to a variety of circumstances, we got on the road much later than we anticipated and arrived super late, and when we got there it was so hot that we hardly slept and left fairly soon after sunrise. It really is a shame, because it was absolutely stunning and the campground itself was excellent.

The campsites all have covered picnic areas (awesome), potable water spigots (ultra awesome), firepits, and grills. In the winter/fall/spring, I think this would be probably one of the coolest places in the entire world to camp. But when we were there? It was honestly unbearably hot. It was 92 degrees at 2am, and none of us slept (especially our poor puppy, who had never camped before and is still learning how to deal with being uncomfortable) more than a few hours at maximum. I was certainly envious of all of the people in their campers with their air conditioning running!

The bathrooms are large and clean, and there are plentiful showers (which were closed when we were there, or I would've taken an icy cold shower in an attempt to cool down). Amenity wise, this campground is pretty much the tops, and I know the campground has no control over the temperature, but it definitely had a huge impact on our experience. We already have plans to go back in the winter (REAL, ACTUAL winter) to be able to genuinely enjoy it!

5 Star Camping, but 0 Star Heat

I stayed at one of the three group camp sites located in [Valley of Fire State Park](http://parks.nv.gov/parks/valley-of-fire) in late May 2012\. I have since visited the park and done some of the day hikes so this review will reflect both trips. The group sites are located across the road from the other two campground and can hold roughly 45 people per site. I was with a field class of geologists and there were easily 30-40 of us each with our own tents and we fit just fine. The group camps have large dining and cooking areas with picnic tables and large grill spaces. Each site has its own bathroom as well. We loved climbing the nearby rocks and the sunset and sunrise views were incredible. The only issue I had with the site was the wind. We had experienced campers who had properly staked down their tents have tents blow away. My guess is that there were gusts up to 30+ mph. I decided to sleep in one of the vans because I didn’t want my tent to hit me in the face all night – great decision given how I was one of the few who got more than 4hrs sleep! The park is beautiful but do be mindful of the wind conditions before venturing out. Also I think the other campgrounds (Arch and Atlatl) are more protected than the group sites. These campgrounds are first come first serve and can book quickly in peak months.

As for the park, it is truly beautiful. I spent time hiking off White Domes Road and especially liked the Mouse’s Tank Trail and White Domes Loop. I would highly recommend stopping by the visitors center as it was packed with good information and neat specimens. I stopped by Atlatl Rock to look at the petroglyphs and the Sunday I was there was a group offering atlatl practice throwing. The park was very busy in a bustling exciting way. This park does have a $10 entrance fee and I 100% think it is worth the price of admission. Be aware that it can get really crowded – as I was leaving there were about 30 cars lined up waiting to get in! Beautiful park but mind the desert winds

This is one of our absolute favorite places to camp in Southern Nevada!! All the camp siites in both camp grounds are clean and have water at each site. The first camp ground (Atlati) has a limited number of sites that also have electricity, modern bathrooms and showers— they fill up fast!. The Arches camp ground which is about a quarter of a mile past Atlati has beautifully secluded sites!! We love sites # 22, 23 and 24!

Warning: It is HOT in the summer! Talking average daytime temps of 115 degrees F. Nights do not cool down much at all. Best time to camp would be October - May. Winter months can get cold at night so check temps.

Hiking is great. Amazing sights both wildlife and scenery!! It is sandy hiking and some bouldering.

We Love This Place

Hands down an absolutely beautiful park! There are so many massive boulders, and rocks to climb on and around everywhere. There are only two different campsites in the park that have a small fee so make sure to bring cash, there are also drop toilets and each numbered campsite has a picnic table with chairs and a shade cover. The campsites are nestled right in between the rocks which make for a beautiful stay. There's a variation of hikes you can do which range from a couple of miles to just getting out of your car. It includes very interesting petroglyphs, cool rock formations, and lots of picture opportunities! I went in the beginning of the year and it actually started to rain/snow overnight. We also brought our dogs but had to keep them on a leash while on the main trails and at the campsite. The park also has a visitor's center .

Valley of Fire

An excellent variety of trails to suit any level visitor! The trail to Mouses Tank is super easy and petroglyphs are abundant to the naked eye. A couple of the trail are marked "easy" yet I found them to actually be "moderate". The park is a bit over crowded on weekends yet empty in sections further in the park interior. Enjoy! Don't forget to peek over the hill and see the actual water at the end of the tank trail. A waterfall briefly appears during a rain and you have to be at trail end during or immediately following a summer shower.

A journey through time

Some of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen. We made this a stop as a last minute decision and it was probably our favorite location. The White Domes trail is short but well worth it!! The campsites have nice facilities like water, showers, grills and covered (shaded) picnic tables. Roomy campsites and pretty private.

Don’t skip Valley of Fire!

I'd been wanting to visit Valley of Fire for months, but we can get out on a six-hour trip in the summer, winter, and spring only. Summer would be too hot for us Arizonans trying to escape the high temperatures, and I've heard the springtime is really, uncomfortably windy there. So. Winter won and we found that it's quite possibly the best time to visit Valley of Fire. The daytime temps were in the mid-60s, and the nights went into the low 40s. What I forgot was that Nevada is on Pacific time so sunset was early at 4:30, but we kept a campfire going and enjoyed the evenings even if we had to come in for the night by 9 pm. That made waking up to awesome sunrises more enjoyable anyway.

We stayed at Atlatl Campground, which is first come/first served. When we arrived, we saw a lot of RVs and nearly lost hope, but there was one spot where we could park our 25ft trailer and it turned out to be one of the best campsites there. Site #8's tent pad, grill, table, and fire ring are behind a huge rock, so if privacy is what you're after this is the place! However, the site doesn't have hookups, so if you're looking for those you would have to be in the more open spaces. They aren't right on top of each other, but there isn't a lot of things blocking views of other RVs. We found the non-hookup sites were more desirable here in terms of camping ambiance. Besides, no hook-up sites were open so it wasn't a decision we had to make. :) We could hear generators occasionally, but for the most part this place was very, very quiet.

The hosts are friendly and keep the place neat and tidy. The restrooms and showers were clean, with flush toilets and hot water in the showers. The dump station was fine, and there is fresh water available to fill your tank. Also, each site has a water spigot, so that was handy! You can't easily fill your tank because the spigot doesn't have rings to connect a hose, but it's doable. We know this because we forgot to fill our tank before getting our spot. We were so worried about getting a space. Ha! It worked out.

The campground is surrounded by giant red rock formations, and there are some in the middle of it, too. It's perfect for kids and adults both to climb for hours and days. It's kind of like Joshua Tree, but the rocks are easier to climb on--closer together and the spaces between aren't as sketchy. Plus the rocks are soft sandstone so they don't scratch as much. It really is fun to explore all around the rocks and see the park from high vantage points.

It's the desert, so expect a lot of dust. What I hadn't expected was so much sand on the hiking trails. I find it difficult to trudge through soft sand, so although the park's popular hikes are short, expect them to be more of a challenge due to the sand. The awesome views make up for it, though. Bighorn sheep, awesome rock formations, slot canyons, so many different colors, and even ancient petroglyphs are pleasant distractions from the workout on the legs. Don't miss the Fire Wave, White Domes, and the hike to Mouse's Tank. Very cool.

Our T-Mobile service came and went with the wind all through the park.

Overall, Valley of Fire did not disappoint. We were busy and entertained and loving being there at this perfect time of year.

Best Red Rock Playground

This is a very hot but wonderful place to visit! Coming back a for a second go this summer (2018) showing my kiddos the wonders of the desert life. It is best to go later when the sun is cooling down although it will still be hott! Seeing Elephant   Rock, the lizards, and crawling around the wind whipped terrain made me feel like I was a child again on a new playground. Bring water and take in the heat!

HOTT!

Absolute Silence at night. Even when the campground is full. stars so bright. Longhorn everywhere. If you can sleep in the desert, this is the place to stay. it’s perfect. 

So Quiet and Beautiful!!

Definitely a leftover from Lake Mead's hayday (they never would have spent this much money without the draw of the lake), this is a very nice campground, tucked away in a State Park (that is a beautiful state park)

Surprizingly nice!

We go camping here every year. Campsites are spread out nice. They have 3 walk in sites that are away from the other sites, those are our favorite ones. It's not far to walk your stuff up to the sites.

Love this campground. 

We luckily got the last spot in the campground on a hot day in May. The goal was originally to spend the day on the lake and then end the day hiking the Fire Wave so it wasn't super hot. Well, we woke up at 7:30 and it was already getting hot and busy so we decided to head up to the Fire Wave to start the day. We finished the short 1 mile round trip hike before 9 am and it was already 90+ degrees. By that time of day there were hundreds of people hiking all around out campsite so we headed out for the day.

I think coming here when it isn't a break or the weekend would be ideal. We just happened to pass through during the busy weekend when the Vegas vacationers came out for a day trip.

I drive through here during the week in March and it was silent and desolate. Absolutely beautiful to be out there solo. Water is scarce so be prepared for that. Also, swim beaches are not near Valley of Fire so be prepared to drive through the beauty of Lake Mead Recreational Area to get to a place where you can jump in. This place is amazing! The igneous rock takes your breathe away.

Busy and Hot but BEAUTIFUL!!

This place is crazy unbelievably beautiful -- a true jackpot just northeast of Las Vegas. The rock formations are like something out of a Dr. Seuss book.

There are two different camping areas, with most of the sites tucked in among the red rock formations. We got there late in the day and got the last spot during Spring Break week!  Most of the sites are designed for tents or small van/campers, with just a handful of dedicated RV spaces with water/electric at each site for $10 more per night. Each site is equipped with a covered picnic table and firepit/grill, and there are water spigots and bathrooms with toilets/showers scattered throughout the campgrounds.

Be sure to stop by the Visitor Center and check out their film and displays as the geology of this place is quite unique. It was like no other that we’ve seen over the past 6.5 years of full-time, though it’s kind of a combination of many (Death Valley, Red Rocks Canyon, and a bit of Bryce Canyon). Driving the scenic road is great, but get out and hike, hike, hike to really see this place!  The crowds will go to the popular places like the Fire Wave (which is awesome), but some of the other areas are just as jaw dropping and no one is there. We even saw a desert tortoise eating some Beaver Tail Cactus on one of the less popular hikes, which is an extra special wildlife sighting.

The closest town with supplies is Overton, about 12 miles away from the east gate.

Camping is first-come, first-served, with no reservations. Note: if you don’t get lucky and get a spot in the park like we did, there are BLM areas just south and just north of the park itself, but you’ll still have to pay the entrance fee of $10 for each day you come into the park itself.

Camp Among Ancient Rocks

Beautiful views all around the campgrounds. Get there early, they fill up very very fast. I showed up at 9:30 and barely got a spot!  Completely worth the early showing though! And good price at $10 to get in the park and $10 to camp per night!

This is a tiny State Park that you can spend a couple hours, a day or a week exploring. Scenic drive is spectacular. Endless red rock formations and slot canyons to explore. I was here end of December, which is considered a popular time to camp here. It was busy. Comfortable camping. One of the campgrounds even has showers. Some really cool spots tucked deep in the rocks. My spot had a level gravel camping pad and a covered picnic table. Evidence of big horn sheep all through camp. Great hiking, views, petroglyphs, dog friendly. Hard to believe it's an hour from Vegas! 

Hidden gem

This one fills up fairly quickly I went the first week of May 2019 I showed up around 10am and about 7 spot were open I set up a chair and payed for my spot. When I came back in the afternoon all were filled with many late comers making the rounds. The campground setting is neat with beautiful red rocks surrounding you. Bathrooms were clean and showers were available. Great state park with lots of fun hikes.

Sites were nicely spaced and al had water. There were walking sites available also. Shower/ restroom lights were very dim so bring a headlamp or flashlight at night. Also be careful of wasps nest on the rock formations. 

Amazing experience 

We had always heard how wonderful this place was and we made a point of staying here after a trip to Utah and Arizona.  We stayed in late October, weather was very nice.  Both of the campgrounds are in the red rocks and most sites you get to park your rig or put of your tent right in them.  Some sites have electric service.  This was (in October 2018) all first come first served, and it is VERY POPULAR.  So, you have to wing it and show up and hope for a site, and this is after you pay to get into the park.  It was so worth the visit, the environment is picture perfect everywhere.  There are a ton of great hikes and if you take the road up past the visitors center you can hike “the wave” see photo below, and potentially see lots of big horn sheep, including males with the large head racks.  This was such a great visit, I hope to go again, and spend more time.

CONS:
• You have to be very patient to score a site. The sites are first come, first served — no reservations and the signs have always said that the campgrounds are FULL when I go here, apparently they’re not. My gf had gone earlier to the park bc I had to work and she had to scout for a spot. Initially, she was not able to find anything so she went for a hike then returned and scored a spot. Patience is key!
• RE sites 16 or any that are up against a boulder. These sights are like megaphones. Everything said and done in these sites could be heard from very far distances. Night 1; musicians graced our ear drums with guitars sounds and singing. Night 2; family tortured our eardrums with their screaming child (sound echoed!) and conversations that had TMI written all over them. This is me venting but just be aware if you’re staying in any of these spaces and don’t be a d*€% in general :)

Overall: love this place! Great for beginners in the world of camping. It eases you into it (w/ the access to toilets and showers) rather than straight roughing it off the bat. 

One of the nicest parks I’ve camped in!

We got our first travel trailer last Friday and that same day we hit the road! 

Atlatl Rock does not take reservations, so we took a gamble by making the trek out to find a spot. All of the signs leading to the campground said full but lo and behold there was a single spot just waiting for us to arrive. We hooked up and were climbing surrounding rocks within 30 minutes of arrival. Sites include a covered picnic table, bbq and fire ring. Restrooms with showers are close by no matter where your site is. 

Our first morning at the site we loaded up and headed into the Valley of Fire. Epic views, great trails and amazing petroglyphs. The kids thoroughly enjoyed all of the sites and had a great time poking around at the visitors center. 

I highly recommend Atlatl Rock - especially in the spring and fall months as it gets blazing hot in the summer. 

Stunning Campground

This campground has plenty of sites but it fills up fast on weekends and holidays. It can also get pretty loud before quiet hours hit. 

  

It’s the only campgrounds within the park, so call the rangers ahead of time to check.

Beautiful but loud during weekends 

I live in Vegas so this campground is super convenient. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because there is no natural water source and cell reception (for Verizon) is very spotty. I do like how they offer WiFi for around $8 a day. I know I know, camping is to get away from social media meh - well I often camp alone so it’s nice to kill a few hours surfing the internet after the day’s adventure is done. I also find myself researching things I discovered throughout the day of exploring the area. Anyway, the individual campsites are amazing and clean - great fire pits, and each site has its own water spigot too. Last thing I’ll leave you with is it is often “FULL” so if there isn’t anything available just head to Stewart’s Point on Lake Mead.

Quick Getaway from Vegas City

Great campground near Atlatl rock. Mostly flat sites, with picnic table, potable water faucets, fire pit, and shade structure on most sites. Tucked in between the large red rocks, the site feels remote but easily accessible, just 2 miles from the west gate. The bathrooms we're clean, and well stocked with toilet paper. Big Horn Sheep were wandering through the area, really neat to see.

Fantastic campgrounds among the red rocks. 

Each campsite is equipped with shelter.  We camped at site #1 which was a little tucked back.  Camp sites have fire rings and grills. Also spigot water.  Bathrooms with showers, sinks and flush toilets although some were inoperable at the time.  No soap, no paper towels or air dryers. No  Ventilation in the bathroom areas whatsoever. Otherwise very nice.

Nice!

Great campground with free shower! We saw big horn sheep in the walk in campsites. It is a campground that has families so be prepared for some loud people. First few sites next to the rocks have shade in the afternoon (1-4). RV spots are hard to get so come early. We got here at 9 ish on a Friday all the RV and most of the large spots were taken. Lucked out on site 2. Backed in a 25’ trailer no problem. 

Beautiful with great animal viewing 

We loved The Valley of Fire State Park and campground so much, we felt it deserved National Park status. The campgrounds are nestled in amazing red rocks that my children could have boulders endlessly. The sandstone grit allows a good grip — making scaling possible even for the balance impaired. 

The trails, scenic drive, petroglyphs, and visitor’s center are all exceptional. So many different rock landscapes to admire.

We especially appreciated the number of petroglyphs on the Mouse’s Tank Trail. Hiking is not advisable over 90 degrees. It was 100 when we went in early October. Take a LOT of water and a sun hat!

Stunning campground amidst towering red rocks!

We were so fortunate to snag a spot, arriving after dark in October. We took the first spot on arrival, even though there were some sites with full hookups available. Our site had a glorious "backyard" and the sunrise was spectacular. This was amazing!

An absolute stunning gem

This campground was perfect for us.  We stayed for a week while I worked remotely.  Although there was very little cell reception, there was good WiFi at a reasonable price.  The internet, power, water, and showers (even in December) were all steady. And while I worked, my husband hiked the park. Lots of beautiful trails to explore and rocks to climb (at all levels of difficulty)!

The only criticism I have is that I wish that some of the tent sites offered electric, too. We were just van camping and really didn't need a whole RV spot, but those were the only ones with power.

All in all, a great site!

Great place for sure with amazing rangers and everything is kept clean.

gorgeous surroundings

I camped with whatever I can carry in my back pack and motorcycle. I had a blast exploring all rock formations and finding amazing cave systems. Even though I spent 2 days here, it was still not enough time to explore everything. I will return! 

Absolutely beautiful

Valley of Fire Wow. Beautiful bright vibrant colors everywhere. Worth every second of adventuring here. I stayed 2 days and explored a lot. I think for me it’s was about right beings solo with a dog. Three days maybe lol. I love this place.

We stayed at Arches Campground which is the second Campground on the same road as this but since there is no listing for that one I will post here. Beautiful, quite, clean, easy access, friendly rangers, clean and stocked restrooms. Trash cans checked or emptied twice a day. Not far from Visitors center. Cell service very spotty. Wonderful views and photo opportunities. We have a natural amphitheater, bees a active during the day but we just put a pot of water away from our living site and it was no problem. 

Arches Campground Beautiful!

The spots here are awesome with built in shaded picnic tables, but there aren’t many! If you’re going out on a holiday weekend be sure to get there early.

Valley of 🔥Fire

We went the 19th through the 22nd of May and temp wise it was perfect! Windy at night (but we put our wind ties in and it was nice! Wind kept the bees away that was a plus! 

Temperature perfect!

Visited today and this campsite is open. The other site Arch Rock is still closed. This area has tent and rv spots, as well as walk in tent sites along the back against the boulders. Very clean campsite and facilities. Many rv sites appeared to be almost perfectly level. Plenty of space between sites and lots of room to easily park a trailer and park your vehicle. Had many pull thrus for those large rigs. Water and electric hookups. Dump site is located at the entrance. 

Open and beautiful surroundings 

We decided to hit up valley of fire on our way from Vegas to Zion. It was crazy hot, but place is amazing. We stayed at site #8 had tons of space, very well kept, and tons of cool rocks to explore. Woke up to big horn sheep all around. Would definitely love to stay here again.

Early, early, early! We arrived at 7am. Drive past the entrance and headed straight to the camp ground.  First come first serve and it was filled up the entire time. We stayed Monday Oct 11 for 1 night. We got the first site and only site vacant. As we drove in we passed an RV for someone headed out to get an early start driving. That's what you want. We watched 40+ RVs drive thru at all hours of the day looking for a site but all were full and stayed full. If anyone left someone arrives to replace them.  As we pulled out  before we left the campground someone else was already in our spot. . . NOTE- if you arrive early you can pay your entrance fee when you pay for the camp spot. $ 10 entrance for residence $15 for non and $10 for non hookup site. 

Amazing park very popular rv spot

Beautiful campground with large private spaces. The spots are laid out nicely, the ones on the outer loop are set up to be pretty private. The first come first served situation could be unfortunate since it’s a long drive to anything else. I would have given 5 stars if it was reservable. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and had several spots to pick from. But by Saturday morning it was packed. The Wi-Fi package was reasonably priced and worked pretty well. 

We were tent camping in #21 which is a walk-in site and my fav of the three walk sites of this area. Only about a 45 second walk but there are only three campsite on this side of the rocks and it’s quiet. Once spigot for water. Trash cans. 2 mins walk to the bathroom. Tent pad, fire pit, grill, picnic table. It was perfect. 

Walk-in Site #21

A walk-in site with everything you need. Table, tent pad, nearby water, bathroom 1.5 min walk. Showers 3 min walk. 

Walking site #20

This is also a great walk-in site and it’s the only one on this side of the rock. Lots of shade in the morning. Everything you need. Bathroom with a flush toilet is less than two minute walk. Bathroom with showers and flush toilet is about a 4 min walk. Very quiet and away from the main circle loop. It’s a walk-in site but it takes 30 seconds to walk in. 

Walk-in #22

This campground exceeded our expectations by a bunch. Very popular, but the sites are situated in a way as to make you feel like you are living in a cave. We were in a camper van, got there 3 pm on a Friday and were really lucky to get the last spot. 

So much to see in the park itself. Check out the visitors center and Walk of Fire (7 Wonders connects and makes it an almost perfect half day loop.)

We recommend getting there early and on a weekday to get the cool spots up in Arch rock.  You can probably park at the petroglyphs and watch for people pulling out. But any site at Valley of Fire is at least “pretty good”.  If we could do it over, we would bring a tent and some gear and use the walkout sites at Atlatl.  That last one up in the canyon might just be the coolest campsite I have ever seen. 

This place is amazing 

RV area of this campground has nice big sites with 50 amp and 20 amp electric and water for $35 per night, and dump station located nearby in park. Beautifully set in red rock and desert landscape with big horned sheep wandering thru on occasion. Nice table and fire pit and bbq under shade on cement slab. Nearby hiking. Other sites for $25 w/o electric. Hot showers

This was a very interesting campground.  We pulled in about 9:30 on a Friday morning.  The Atlatl campground was full but we found several available in the Arch Rock campground.  If you get there in the morning ignore the campground full sign as they never change it due to the rapid changing of campers.  The spots are unique and most have a canopy over the table. Ours did not but it was early enough in the season to not be a problem.  Can’t give it 5 stars as the attention on the bathrooms was lacking.  Ran out of toilet paper in both stalls for about 24 hours and could be cleaned more often. 

Good enough

This is a first come first serve campground so definitely get here early if you want a spot. Ignore the campground full sign because there’s a chance there may be a spot available. 

We didn’t actually get to stay here since it was full but the place is beautiful and the campground is nice. They have electric hookups and everything else you want in a campground. There’s plenty of trails to explore and you may even see some goats on your way! 

First come first serve

Decided to do a one night trip not far from home. Stayed in site #17 was spacious with nice red rock behind us. The site was equipped with large table with shade structure, fire pit and separate grill. I hung my hammock of the shade structure as it’s solid steel and wouldn’t do any damage. The campground was clean including the facilities. They have showers, but I didn’t use them because I was only staying one night. Would recommend. 

Nice getaway from Vegas 

We stayed here in one of the hookup sites because we needed a/c, it was hot even in October.  All sites are FCFS but we found a spot on a Saturday in early October at 1030am. 

The fee system feels a little confusing but it's basically $15 park entrance fee, $10 more dollars to camp, and another $10 for hookups (50&amp;30&amp;20 power and water only, free dump and water (and garbage bins) just outside the campground even if you aren't camping). So $35 for a night for non residents if you want power. Nevada residents are something like $5 cheaper.  All sites appeared to have water, even the non power sites. 

Showers are free but pretty yech, but what are you going to do. Beats an RV shower. 

Garbage bins throughout, but no recycling. Verizon had ok service, kind of spotty, but decent with the cell booster. Att was pretty much non existent and the booster didn't help. WiFi is available for purchase with varying plans. 

Valley of Fire is an incredible park. We explored the park a little in the morning before we left. We left the park at 10:30am and the guy at the booth checked our receipt upon exiting.  Campground checkout is 11am. I think it's possible that if we'd left after 11 we'd have had to pay another $15 daily park fee.

Stayed at the smaller of the two campgrounds.  Beautiful rock formations to wake up to.  Water available in campgrounds.  Also potable water at dump station.  Highly recommend.

Quiet and restful 

If you like camping this is a must go to spot. Landscape is unlike any other, millions of years of erosion to create a breathtaking environment. They have both tent sites and RV sites. It does cost but there’s a self kiosk you can pay at. You can’t go wrong with any spot to camp at but the one’s towards the back were better in my opinion. They do have three spots in the back that are tents only that are pretty sweet spots. But overall it was a experience I will never forget and I will definitely be returning multiple times, especially since it’s only an hour away from Las Vegas. 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Truly a experience!!

This was our second time camping here and it was just as beautiful as the first time. We got to the park around 8 and were able to get the last spot #37. Unfortunately it was an accessible spot but because it was the last to fill we were able to take it. The host let us know we “might” have to move if another spot opened. Nothing did so we were able to stay. It worked well since it was paved and it rained the first night we were there so nothing got muddy or dirty. And it was close to the bathroom/showers so my son who was camping in his 4Runner had easy access. The spaces are really large and some are right up to the beautiful red rocks. Our corgi puppy was in heaven climbing everything in sight. Cell service is bad throughout the park but you can get a Wi-Fi package for $20 for 3 days which works pretty well. Not enough to stream movies but enough to communicate. 

Camp among the rocks in this pretty campground. Amenities okay. The state park is a must see!

Charming

Absolutely beautiful. Sites are amazing and well cared for. A little Expensive but expected due to amount of campers in area. In among the rock and cliffs, close but still nice. Bighorn herd in among the sites. Water fire rings, grills, close bathrooms. Would give a 10 star if easier to get a site. Come Nevada, enlarge your camp grounds, People love this life!  The rest of the park has great hikes and unbelievable scenic drives.

Awesome! If you can get a site...

Arch rock campground is further up the road from Atlanta campground. It used to be a first come first serve campground, but just this month changed to a reservation system. If a site is not reserved and it is after 3pm, you can pay the iron ranger $10 for the site. 
Arch rock sites are more scenic than the other campground, but also more primitive with just vault toilet and water spigots distributed throughout the camp. No electricity. 
Desert big horn sheep do frequent the area.   It can be very hot temperature. 
Sites are only modestly separated with little screening. Though the sites further up the loop are more dispersed.  Each site has sun shade, table, fire ring, and 12’x12’ tent pads. No T-Mobile. 

Nice rocks Hot weather 

We’ve been here a few times now, and we always loved it. It’s very quiet in general, the spots are big, the neighbors are not directly on top of you, bathrooms are clean, check in process is very easy. 
There is wifi in the middle of the campground, we haven’t used it because we have starlink. 
Cell service is not good but it’s also not completely absent, we have Verizon. 
The weather in November &amp; January was a lot cooler than expected. We had very cold winds in December and in January it rained. 
Every time we stayed here we saw Bighorn Sheep passing by our campground which was really neat.
