Glacier Campground is located just one mile from the west entrance of Glacier National Park and is the closest privately owned campground to the park, known for “the way camping used to be!” Our heavily wooded 40 acre campground is surrounded by the Flathead National Forest. West Glacier Village provides many activities including golf, mini golf, shopping, rafting, horseback rides and helicopter tours. There are also many options for great local dining. Glacier Campground

This is both a campsite review and a Dyrt Ranger product review.

CAMPSITE REVIEW: We almost cancelled our trip to Glacier due to the current forest fires that have closed some of the park. We decided to take a chance on it though, and stayed just outside the west entrance of the park, at the privately owned Glacier Campground. We decided, given possible problems with smoke and haze, to rent one of their camper cabins instead of tent camping. Their camper cabins here are cozy and really nice, and much more reasonably priced than any others in or near the park! There were a lot of nice tent and RV spots for camping too, the whole place was like an upscale state park with many large, secluded shady campsites tucked into beautiful mature forest. There is a terrific indoor-outdoor cafe on site, and a central gathering area with playground and group picnic shelters. There are hot showers and regular bathrooms too. The campground is 1/2 mile to the entrance to Glacier National park, but 1/2 mile in the other direction is the new “Crown of the Continent” Geotourism and Education Center sponsored by the state of Montana and National Geographic. The folks at the campground can shuttle you over here to view the high quality environmental and geography education exhibits on display, to sample local foods and crafts, or to sign up for outdoor adventures like horseback riding, fly fishing, llama trekking and more. The campground itself is pet friendly, they even allowed our dog to stay in a camper cabin with us, which many dont. To our dismay, we discovered that dogs arent allowed on hiking trails within Glacier National Park itself, but we got advice at both the campground and at the Geotourism Center about National Forest trails in the area that dogs ARE welcome to hike on. So this a fabulous place to stay, with something for everyone, and an especially good homebase for dog families who want to get out on area hikes. Note: there is also an Amtrak train stop near this campground, and they have a shuttle to pick you up if you arrive by train!

As a Ranger for the Dyrt, sometimes I get to test new products. This is a review for the OOmg women's low-rise sport shoe made by OOFOS. I was interested to try them out because they are billed as supportive "recovery shoes" for hikers or runners after a long trek. As I have plantar fasciitis and am also a few months post-recovery from a broken metatarsal, I wanted to try something that might help on an upcoming hiking and camping trip. After the shoes arrived, I thought I should break them in a bit so I wore them around the house and on dog walks around the neighborhood--so comfortable from the start that no breaking in was needed, but I also didn't want to take them off! Really comfortable and really supportive. I was really impressed--so impressed that once we started on our trip, I wore them on short easy hikes rather than just wearing them after hikes, and they held up well. In fact, they were more comfortable than my actual hiking shoes, so I ended up wearing them on all my hikes over the next week, more than 40 miles of action. They may not have the deep tread or the ankle support needed for really rugged or really steep and slippery mountain trails, but I tried them on easy to moderate trails in all kinds of conditions and they held up great, and so did my feet in them. I was really really impressed, more than I thought I would be. Through all the days of hiking, no pain, no arthritis, no trouble walking, these are not just great recovery shoes, but great overall walking shoes.

One other aspect that really impressed me was this: prior to my trip, I discovered a crack in the sole of the shoe, about an inch long, which appeared just a few days after I got them while I was just doing casual walking around the neighborhood. Perhaps I somehow stepped on something sharp that cut into the sole but I didn't know it because the soles are so thick and comfortable? I was disappointed about that and mentioned it to customer service when they emailed to see how I liked the shoes. They informed me that they guarantee their shoes, that if there is a problem in the first six months they can be returned for replacement. That seemed like a good plan, so I thought I would see how they held out during the hiking trip and maybe return them when I got home. However, part way through the trip, I checked the sole and the crack appeared to be smaller, only a half inch instead of an inch. At the end of the trip, I checked again--no crack at all! It seems the sole is made out of some kind of self-healing material. Walking on it had therefore made the crack better, not worse. Wow! Amazing! Needless to say, I won't be returning this pair, and will surely buy more in the future. I can't say enough good things about these shoes! In sum:

Pros:

1) These shoes have great arch support. They would be supportive for anyone, but I need especially good arch support with my plantar fasciitis, and these are more supportive than any other shoes or orthotics I have.

2) Good overall support. These shoes really cradle your whole foot with both support and shock absorption. I broke a metatarsal in my foot a few months ago, and wanted to go hiking anyway despite residual arthritis from it, but I found I had no pain at all when wearing these shoes, even on the one day when we hiked a fairly steep trail over 8 miles.

3) Self healing material in sole. There was a pretty good sized crack in the sole before we left for our trip, it slowly closed during the trip and was "healed" by the end of the trip ten days later. Impressive!

4) These shoes fit well right out of box, there was no need to break them in, the uppers are flexible and well fitting so they stay on nicely without laces, they also retain their shape without stretching out even while conforming to your foot. The order info recommends ordering a half size up as they run a little small, so I did that; I usually wear an 8 1/2 so ordered a women's size 9 and they fit perfectely.

5) Despite the snug fit, I never developed any blisters even after more than 40 miles of walking in them. I also didn't get sweaty feet when wearing them without socks, so the uppers are breathable, but they are also comfortable with peddies or regular socks

6) These are supposed to be recovery shoes for the end of the trail, after you have been hiking, but I found they were good ON the trail for both regular walking and fairly challenging hiking, and I tested them in a variety of conditions, in sun, rain, mud, on rocks, in forest shade and in the open, wading in water and sand, and they held up well through all of it. They seem to have good grip and traction on damp trails, though I am not sure about really steep or slippery trails

7) Not waterproof, but they dry quickly when they get wet

8) You can wash them if they do get dirty, I hand washed them with dish soap and so they look almost like new and dont lose their shape when they get really wet.

Cons:

1) These shoes aren't cheap, and some folks might be put off by the price. However, I would like to point out that I have paid more for supportive official orthopedic-type walking shoes, but these feel better and work better for me, so they would be worth every penny!

2) These are great casual outdoor shoes and I wouldn't hesitate to buy more in other colors! They are such good shoes, though, that I wish I had some like them to wear for work or formal occasions; but they don't really have a supportive shoe like this one in a nice dressy style. Maybe that will change, if they do come up with any I would buy them.

So, overall, wonderful shoes! Highly recommended!

Glad we came to Glacier! 


I found this campground after unsuccessfully trying to find an open spot at one of the several Glacier Natl Park campgrounds last July 2015.  I was driving down from Alberta and didn’t get to the East entrance of the park until about 3:30.  There were a few open spots in Agpar but by the time I rushed through the Going to the Sun Road to get to the West side they were gone.  Frantic to find a place to sleep I drove into West Glacier looking for lodging. I found this campground and drove in to see if they had open spots, which they did! At 25$ a night this campground was nicely wooded and came with a tent pad, picnic table and fire ring.  Fire restrictions weren’t required so I had a nice campfire my second night.  The campground had a few restrooms sites with warm showers included in the price of my stay.  The site itself was really nice, quiet and peaceful.  This is a private campground and on site had a small restaurant, a general store, laundry facilities and a playground.  Although it was outside the park, the campground was only a few minutes from the western gate.  Having driven through Agpar I had to say that this site seemed much less cramped and overall had nicer amenities.  The only down side is that because it isn’t in the park, I had to drive and find a place to park while going on my all day hikes.
	As for glacier must-sees I was only there for two days three nights, but I feel like I got a lot of sightseeing in.  The first day I hiked the highline loop beginning at the Logan Pass Visitor center (if you are driving be sure to get there early as the parking spaces fill up by 9:30/10) and ending at the Loop.  This is a bucket list type of hike that even getting caught in a monster thunderstorm couldn’t be rivaled.  Later that night I grabbed delicious burgers and brews at Eddie’s Café.  Day 2 I hiked to Grinell glacier on the east side of the park out of Many Glacier.  This is one of the few parts of the park where you can get pretty close to one of the last remaining glaciers, though it is a bit of a drive from the west entrance.  I finished that night with dinner at Lake McDonald Lounge in the fireside dining room – a bit of a cap to end my amazing road trip.  Overall my time at Glacier was amazing and I would definitely recommend a trip to this true national treasure!


Comfortable, clean and close to Glacier NP

This was our first visit here and our first outing with our new camper.  We were so pleased. This park is beautifully wooded and the staff does a great job keeping it clean and organized. The bathrooms and showers are clean and well maintained. Garbage it collected quickly and the front office team is awesome. We forgot a tarp and we went to the front to buy one. The owner said " oh we have plenty follow me" she took us out back and let us pick one from their she's to use for free. What puts this camp over the top is the cafe. Wonderful coffee and healthy breakfast available just a short walk from our site was the ultimate treat. 
We intend to stay again soon. 

Felt like visiting family .... That you like 

Montana is absolutely gorgeous! I may be biased because I go to college in Montana, but there is so many great outdoor activities. The mountains and scenery are my favorite. Some college friends and I have done a lot of camping over the years together, and Glacier Campground was one of my favorites. The campground is awesome, and is a few exits down from the Glacier National Park. Trees surround you within the campground, which was great because my friends and I had hammocks so those were easy to hook up with all the trees! One thing we really enjoyed doing was we did some horse back riding! There is a place nearby where you can go and do this. We had a blast!! There are many lakes and rivers too that are great. We enjoyed swimming in the lake, and also rented some kayaks at a local shop a few miles away. The campground does offer spots for tents, RVs and they also have cabins. We chose to tent because we are poor college students :). Maybe at some point we would try renting a cabin because they looked pretty fun. We didn't reserve our spot ahead of time,  but we were able to get a spot still. It was in the spring time, so I'm sure if it was in the summer months you might want to call and make a reservation. Each campsite does have a table and fire pit which came in handy for us. We only stayed for the weekend, but wish we could have stayed longer to do some hiking. Because Glacier National Park is right around the corner, I know they have great hikes. If you are into hiking, I would definitely research hikes in that area. I can't wait to come back!!

Gorgeous!!!

My husband and I visited in June 2016 on our honeymoon. Definitely worth it. Though, remember to hike with a partner and/or bear spray! Beautiful pales to describe it.

Beauty All Around

This campground offers cabin, rv and tent camping. There is a cafe open for breakfast and lunch. The office has cards and games for use and the hosts are always helpful.

This a very clean area with cabins, rv and tent camping. 

In the end of July, over 200 of our group (Sisters on the Fly)…totally invaded this campground. Over 200 us occupied all of the 175 camp spots (plus a few doubled up in the pull throughs)

They were BEYOND accommodating!

The campground is extremely well set up. There is a wonderful little cafe (Sunflower), that bent over backwards cooking for us. There’s a little general store for all the little things you might need (including ice!)…a dump, dish washing station (so bears are less liking to check out YOUR camp).

WIFI is so so…but then again, I don’t camp to hang out on the internet.

The campground is steep as you walk the roads from the pavilion to your spot…you will leave in MUCH better shape than when you arrived.

Not all spots are as level as you would like them to be…they will work with you…just ask. Bring plenty of extra leveling blocks. Some of the spots require skill with backing to get in. They have group cabins and several shower houses.

All and all…I was EXTREMELY impressed! I would stay there every time I go. It’s located just outside West Glacier and the unassuming entrance totally belies the greatness that lies beyond!

You won’t regret your stay!

We were in site # F35 with water &amp; electric. The sites are small but woodsy,  we had a little privacy &amp; the campground wasn't busy.  We had 15 TV channels for the first time in months. This campground is close to Glacier National park maybe a 10 minute drive. There is a little sitting room with a library of books &amp; videos and Wifi. 

  

Huckleberrys are so good and know to this area. We bought fresh ones and made pancakes with some &amp; check out the Huckleberry icecream. 

  

There's a little place to eat in the campground &amp; a good little Taco place across the street. 

  

Glacier Distillery is up the road &amp; has good spirits, did a sipping sample &amp; yes bout some great stuff.

Glacier National park is beautiful we spent 3 or 4 days in the park couldn't get enough. Logans pass was beautiful, going to the sun road, Many glacier &amp; more. We saw black bear, grizzlies, Mountain goats, and lots more. The road going into Many Glacier was so bad take it slow. That's where an old lodge is, and you can walk around the lake. We saw Grizzlies up on the hill side where we parked at the swift current trail. There are people that hike to the Glacier from this lot it's a long hike to do that. 

  

Logan's Pass the trail from behind the visitor center is a little ways to Hidden Lake where we saw Mountain goats close up. Beautiful wildflowers, little water falls and breathtaking views.

  

We hiked to Avalanche lake and saw deer, an Eagle &amp; Black bear swimming and walking the shoreline coming our way. 

  

There are so many nice view point you can pull off &amp; take it all in. 

  

We went to a antique place back towards Spokane out in the middle of nowhere. Such a neat place each themed building had different items. There was another one close to there that's a house with a store and it had some great things too. 

  

We so enjoyed this area met great people &amp; relaxed on a few lakes &amp; fished in the park.

Small sites but good location

We ended up staying here because of the closures of Glacier’s campgrounds and it was great! The sites were close but there was a decent amount of privacy with plenty of trees. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were hot. The WiFi at the front office worked well and there was plenty of seating/parking around to use it. Dishwashing station was nice and clean. Our tent site was a bit bumpy/rocky and a bit slanted but we got by just fine. We had plenty of room for hammocks behind our site. Only real downside was that we didn’t have a fire pit, but it looked like most sites did. If you can’t stay in Glacier, this is a perfect solution!

Great stay close to Glacier

We enjoyed our time at space #H10 for two reasons there was no one right next to us and it was the close of the season so very few fellow campers. Also due to Covid they were spacing everyone far apart, if this wasn’t the case each campsite would have been too close. The sites on Forest  do provide more privacy. We will request one of these next time. All in all, it was a nice campground in the woods. There is not a lot of sunlight so it can get chilly. Bathroom was clean, dump station and other amenities were nice too. Best part, perfect location to get to Glacier National Park.

End of Season Trip

Just what we needed. So close to Glacier National Park that it’s almost inside. The staff was nice and the grounds are taken care of with pride. The bathrooms are Clean, clean,clean! And the price Rocks. Thank you!!

Rad!!!! 

This was a cozy campground with AMAZING staff. Spots are a bit small wouldn’t recommend larger than a 30ft trailer. Water and electric (30amp only). Because wall the spots are nestled in the trees you definitely feel like you’ve got you’re personal space. Nice clean showers and laundry. They even have a cute cafe that is open for breakfast and dinner. A hidden gem! Less than a mile from West Glacier entrance. Currently reservations are only by phone but the owner said they were going to online soon. Would stay here anytime we visited Glacier. 

Perfect for Glacier

This was such a cute campsite and it’s literally 3 minutes from the west entrance of the park. I ended up staying an extra night, and the staff was super helpful and friendly in accommodating me. An unexpected big plus was the cafe on site! They do great brunch and mimosas in the morning, and excellent barbecue at night. The only drawback was that the campsites are really close to each other. I was on the phone with my mom and she could hear people from the next site over talking at a regular volume. Overall though, I’d be happy to come back and will probably stay here next time I’m by the west entrance.

Great value next to West Glacier

The price ($30 for tent site) was great for a private campground with showers/running water. The campsites were not that spaced out but somehow it still seemed pretty private with all the trees and different levels of sites on the hills.  
Staff was very friendly and helpful. 

Great place so close to Glacier National Park 

Glacier Campground is right outside the national park.  It has clean bathrooms and many amenities including a outdoor Cafe. The management is very nice and helpful. There are many trees and sites. The only negative is the sites are on the small site. I really enjoyed the wooded setting it pretty quiet.

Great Campground 

This campground has the best folks working the phones and front desk.  They worked so hard to accommodate.   If you like nostalgia,  you will love this place.   It is a throwback.   Lots  of tree shaded sites.  Most are fairly level.  The best part is the location to the park.  

In the woods

Old school, wooded, super close to Glacier. The people working there were amazing. Spoke to the owner. They all had to come out and meet our dog. Very nice place. Our site was a tight fit, but perfect for us. And the rates were very very fair considering the close proximity to Glacier. Nice family run place. Highly recommend.

Loved this place

It was right near the west entrance and by Lake McDonald. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The showers were clean and water pressure was good! Will def stay again 

So cute and perfect location 

My family and I stayed here for 4 days and it was one of the best campground I’ve ever stayed at! The bathrooms were cleaned every day and the location was only a 5 min drive to the entrance to Glacier NP! 

Amazing campground!

Quiet, clean, great layouts, dog friendly, close to the park entrance, friendly staff…cannot say enough. Loved it here!

Perfect tent spots 

Lots of amenities, friendly staff, good cell service, and very close to Glacier NP. Only reason not 5 stars is the roads are a bit tight getting into sites. Not big rig friendly.

Laid Back Wooded Park Very Close to Glacier

All the camp sites have Electric, and water hookups. Some have sewage as well.

There is a dump station, and propane fill up on site. It’s $25 to dump. The sunset cafe in the campground is is nice and has covered and out door seating. The food was lovely. 

They have a small gift shop/store on site too! 

Make sure you bring an extension cord to hook up your electric just in case you have a short standard cord on your camper.

There are several shower/bathroom station through the campground and kept very clean. 

The campground is about a mile away from the main entrance to Glacier Park (West Entrance)

Overall, we loved our stay and will be back! 




West Glacier 

Our site is one of the better ones. We have a separate fire pit area, with kind of a split level effect. 

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We are rived late missing our first two days of our reservation, and they refunded us the time we did not spend in the site. That is very unexpected. No one should expect that.

The staff went way beyond expectations when helping us deal with our reservation issues, which were fully our responsibility.￼￼￼

Pretty close together 

All around favorite!

Great location. Close to West Glacier, in the woods,  and all sites are wooded and have space from one another. We had full hooks ups. Bears frequent area.

Awesome staff—so helpful and willing to give lots of Glacier advice.

No WiFi, no ATT but Verizon worked well. 

Hot water in showers, nice bathrooms, great laundry facility.

One of my absolute favorites—highly recommended!

Wonderful spot

We really liked this campground. Sites are shady. The cafe serves a good quality and imaginative menu. Hang out at the lodge for WiFi. Staff and other campers were very nice. Only negatives were loud music from a neighboring campground and only 4 showers for each sex for a pretty large campground. Still, the showers were included in the price, so that’s nice.

Nice vibe, close to Glacier NP

We stayed in site F16. It is close to the main lodge and the cafe. 

The showers and bathrooms were very clean.
