Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest

Overview

Nestled in the Lodgepole pine forests of southwestern Montana, Spring Hill Campground is eight miles from Georgetown Lake, a popular destination for fishing, boating and water sports. Spring Hill is located in the Pintler Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, the largest national forest in Montana. Surrounding mountains add to the majestic scenery and provide ample outdoor recreation opportunities during the summer season.

Recreation

Canoeing and boating are popular activities at Georgetown Lake. Hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers will find no shortage of trails within a few miles of the campground. Warm Springs Creek is well-known among Montana anglers as a source of rainbow, cutthroat, brook and brown trout. Georgetown Lake is a prime destination for fishing and fly fishing with kokanee salmon, rainbow and brook trout being the most sought-after species. It is illegal to target Bull Trout, if caught they must be released immediately with minimal handling. Participants must have Montana licenses to hunt or fish.

Facilities

The campground is conveniently located 5 miles from Georgetown Lake. There are 15 campsites available for tent and RV camping, as well as a pleasant picnic area. 9 sites are reservable and 6 sites are first-come, first-served.

Natural Features

Warm Springs Creek runs nearby the campground alongside Warm Springs Road. Nearby Georgetown Lake, a large mountain lake of more than 3,000 acres at an elevation of over 6,000 feet, draws the most attention from visitors. The area immediately surrounding the campground is abundantly populated with Lodgepole pines and is home to local wildlife, including moose, elk, white-tailed deer and even bighorn sheep.

Great water, lots to do close by

Nice campground between Philipsburg and Anaconda along hwy 1. Less than 20 sites, it was clean and compact, but still afforded each site some separation from other sites. The trees have been thinned due to the invasive beatle kill, but new trees are growing. Even though you are close to the road, it’s not terribly loud, especially if you can get a site towards the back. I thought the water tasted exceptionally good from the spigots. You are close enough to the lake for water sports and there are some nearby ghost towns to explore.
