    The park offers a relaxed setting for neighborhood gatherings, family camping, and convenient wayside rest for travelers. The park has a shelter for picnics and a children’s playground. Water is supplied by Lincoln Pipestone Rural Water at a central hydrant. All camping must be paid for in advance before campers will be allowed to park in a spot, and before a reservation will be accepted.

Skalbekken became Renville County’s first park in 1967. The original deed belonged to Ole Skalbeck. Skalbeck’s log home, originally built in 1868, was moved to the park in 1974.
