Newport's wilderness experience offers over 2,300 acres of forest on 11 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, 30 miles of hiking trails, and backpack camping as a quiet alternative to bustling Door County. At the far end of the Door Peninsula, Newport is also designated as a Dark Sky Park, a perfect destination for stargazing.

Newport State Park offers rustic, backpack camping for visitors. Camping is allowed in designated campsites only.

Newport has 17 backpack (hike-in) campsites, including one group site. All sites can be reserved. Campers must hike or bike in all gear and supplies. There are no carts available at the park. There are a few amenities at the sites, including a pit toilet, fire ring with flip-up grill, a lock box for food and a bench or two. Water is available at the park office or at a solar pump near the picnic shelter by Lot 3 (seasonally). There are no shower facilities at the park. All garbage must be carried out of all campsites.

Kleinke Park is located 13 miles north of Menominee on M35.

If you want a gorgeous view of the Bay this is the park for you. Swim in the Bay (no life guard on duty) and lay on the nice sandy beach. There is a carry on boat launch.

Camping can be on daily or seasonal sites. All sites are 50 amp service. A service building, sinks, flush toilets, and showers, and a dump station are on site.

Ice and Fire wood are normally available in park. A play ground for the kids and picnic area with a pavilion are next to the campground.

Camping at Kleinke Park is on a first come first serve basis on the merit system for daily camping. How this is done: Find a vacant place you'd like to camp. Be sure there is no sign posted with "seasonal" and/or dates on the site post (if there is a sign on the site post, someone has that place reserved for the specific dates listed and you can not stay there.) It may say seasonal on the site post. If that is the case, and there is no one in the site spot, you can not have that site. That camp site is taken for a seasonal lease. They may have a motor home that they use which would leave the site vacant occasionally, however they still paid for that site for the lease duration. You can't camp there. Please find another site. Pay at the Pay pole (in the envelopes provided) for the number of nights you'll be staying. Enjoy your stay.
