Sterling State Park Campground

Sterling is an interesting park, nestled between the Fermi nuclear power plant and the coal powered DTE plant it makes for an unique experience. The sites are all in full sun, with not much privacy between them, but most campers are respectful. The beach is a short walk from any site, mostly sandy with small rocks occasionally. There is a boat launch which is extremely popular and the bass and walleye fishing can't be beat. No boat, no problem. The park has several fishing piers as well as a kayak launch into a small inlet which is navagatable all the way to the beach, approximately two miles. There is a bike path that will take you all the way to the Historic Rasin River Battlefield and then to downtown Monroe. Additionally, all of the sites in this park have 30amp electric while also boasting quite a few sites with full hookup. Every site has a blacktop pad for parking or trailer setup, with many pull thru sites available.

Memorial Day Weekend

Nice state park with typical family camp amenities. Used a pop up camper, some shade trees but very limited (assume full sub sites). Some hiking and biking trails. Swimming if the lake is not with bloom (which happens a lot) but is close to sites. Normally I am not very comfortable letting my kids swim here due to the water pollution and bloom). There is some wildlife around on the trails and a sandy beach to play on though.

Ok camping if the lake is not under restrictions 

Campground is right by the power plant, but also have beautiful views of the lake. There is not much shade and if lot is full you are very close to other campers. 

Has what you need

This is our first time at Sterling State Park, the campsites are very close to each other however, it’s been nice so far! The view of the lake is beautiful!! Bathrooms/showers are clean. There’s not many trees at all so nothing to block the winds on a windy day. But we will be coming back again! Our kids loved it! Great fishing, bike trails, playground, and beach! There are some smoke towers from a nearby plant, but just another thing that makes this place unique. 

Great place 

Went last year for a family reunion so to speak. We stayed in a tent at a campsite. Campsites are not necessarily spaced out but adequate space for your tents, RVs, trucks, etc. Beautiful view of the water, however the beach is usually busy so it can be difficult to find a clean spot. Not too many shady areas so be sure to bring cover or shade if it’s a hot day! Has modern bathroom access and it usually pretty clean. Easy access to park and playground. Bike and walking trails can be accessed as well.

Good for a short, quick getaway for a short weekend.

Family Reunion

Had 11 kids between sites with bathrooms n private showers nice and clean making our 1 bathroom ok and not overused...beautiful beach and lil private cove... Took our blow up boats to enjoy some extra fun....had great staff assist us with changing sites and purchasing firewood..very friendly n professional..

Wonderful experience

The Good: modern bathrooms, newer and kept clean. The sites all have power and level paced pad. Decent sized. A view of the lake isn’t too shabby. The beach with big shade trees is decent. 

The Bad: sites are full sun, which gets hot! Lots of litter on the beach, and Lake Erie isn’t exActly the cleanest. Also, this campground attracts weekend partiers so if you want privacy or peace and quiet, I would look elsewhere. Nestled between the looming smokestacks of a coal power plant and a nuclear plant, this isn’t your typical woodsy, scenic park.

Basic, no shade, decent sized sites with close beach

Nice state park with clean bathrooms.  Bike and walking trails. Also has a smaller lake good for kayaking and fishing. It has a boat  ramp to put into Lake Erie. Not a lot of shade on the sites!

Lake Erie

   My family and I love this park.  Quiet with large level sites.  Everything from back ins with only electrical to pull throughs with full hook-ups.

Beautiful State Park

Very relaxing and quiet place. I couldn't believe how clean the bathrooms were and how often they took care of them. Amazing trails to walk on and fishing piers everywhere. 

Clean and Peaceful

We stopped here for a quick overnight trip on our long family trip. The site was large and easy to back into. We had a view of the lake which was beautiful. Bathhouse was clean.

Used Dyrt to scope out the site. Everything was accurate and the Michigan parks website is a breeze to use. 

NOT ALL THE SITES UAVE FULL HOOKUPS. I did not realize this when booking. Nobody's fault but mine. Great fishing ponds, the sites are a little tights.

First two nights were perfect but then the may flies hatched (in mid june) and covered everything
