Pocomoke River State Park Campground

I can't say enough good things about this state park. Sites are the perfect size for our tent and canopy, and are secluded enough that you aren't on top of your neighbors. Bath houses are clean and updated, and I like that they have a sink outside to wash dishes. We've rented a canoe to explore the river, which was beautiful, but mostly we camp here and drive about 45 minutes to Ocean City. We came here on a whim three years ago and have made it a tradition to come back each year. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Absolutely in love with this place!

Wow, stayed on this place en route up the East Coast and I was amazed! The bathrooms and cabins must have been new, or at least just renovated. The bathroom was almost like showering at a spa! Stainless steel, wood paneling, very clean. The cabins included ac/heater, ceiling fan, nice bed padding, and plastic chairs/table. The site also included a picnic table and fire pit. Pet friendly as we stayed with our golden retriever with a great view of the river. This campsite is a must stay, especially for glampers and probably a good choice for those who love ac/heating! 

Amazing Grounds!

We stayed in Waters Edge loop, it was quite peaceful the first night (Thurs) and then a bit more crowded on Friday night. Overall a very nice camp and will go back! 

Beautiful, basic campground

I stayed in a group of 5 people to camp and hike in Pocomoke River State Park. I am a local of the eastern shore and wanted a little getaway that was not too far from home. The twin bunk beds were extremely comfortable and felt rather large with two of us sleeping in them. The cabin stayed warm and exceeded expectations. The hikes were a nice little nature stroll with well maintained trails and was very clean! We would for sure stay here again, especially when we start to have families of our own.

Cozy Cabin

30 minutes from beach and has many camping activities!  We enjoyed fishing and kayaking. I think the only complaint is our loop didn’t have a bathroom and was a long walk.  We camped in a warm April week and the pollen was ridiculous!  Perfect campground when Assateague is full! 

Great find!

Easily booked a site online for July 5-7 and had a very nice, quiet stay in the park. We chose this park as an alternative to staying on Assateague since it's only about 40 minutes away, and we prefer the shaded forest and lack of crowds. There were only a few other campers in our loop. If it was fully booked, you'd definitely be able to see and hear your neighbors. I thought our site was tucked more in the forest based on the maps, but it was pretty close to the other sites. Good birdwatching from the site!

Definitely some insect pressure at the site. We had a screen which kept us protected, but when outside of the screen to do dishes or anything else, the mosquitoes were around. I would skip the "Trail of Change" during the summer months. We had to frantically jog half of it to escape the insects. I believe the park sprayed for mosquitoes during our stay. We heard what sounded like a spray truck very early in the morning drive around the campground. The other trails are short, easy, and good for gentle hiking or biking. The map could use a little update with trail lengths and other info. The inner trails are not swampy like the Trail of Change, so there was less insect pressure.

The bathhouse with flushing toilets, sinks, and showers (hot water didn't work in the men's shower) were within easy walking distance of the site and were fairly clean.

Good quiet place to stay close to Assateague

I definitely had the best site on the block! Caddy corner from the bath house, but not so close to be disturbing, &amp; it was very clean w/ nice hot water showers &amp; spacious adjacent changing area with bench &amp; lots of hooks to hang towel, clothes, etc.  Well kept site with built up flat tent pad, (down side is limit 2 tents &amp; must be on pad when there was plenty of room for several tents without an RV. ). Nice long picnic table with benches, fire ring is a safe distance from tent pad.  There is a fish cleaning station w/ hook &amp; all, for any who want to fish in the park lake. Can rent canoes/kayaks &amp; there is a pool that I think has a lifeguard. Friends had a much smaller site next to mine &amp; on the other side of them were our friends with a huge RV w/ pull outs, where we had plenty of room for twenty to cook breakfast &amp; dinner, gather round the fire for s'mores &amp; lounge in camp chairs &amp; still had room for most of the tour bikes in "the  driveway".  Other friends had sites peppered around the loop and all said they were comfortable.  A little spooky Thurs. night for this woman to camp alone before more campers arrived Fri, but all-in-all a nice place to camp in a forest with a lake that is far enough away , but not too far, from Berlin, Assateague Island, &amp; Ocean City, MD.  Best to have what you need before you get there because the camp store was closed &amp; stores are not close enough to run out for toothpaste.

Shads Landing Camping

Several things give this place 5 stars. Loop G - Acorn trail is for campers with pets. The camp sites are in the outer loop of the circular road with lots of space between each site. Lots of shade.  There are several paths (like spokes on a wheel) that lead to the bathrooms which are in the middle of the loop. Lots of great hiking trails. 


Nice!

Not only is this state park absolutely gorgeous, but it’s one of the few campgrounds left where I still feel like I’m truly in nature and the campsites are spaced out very nicely for privacy, but not too far to where you feel alone in the dark. Definitely my number one campground.

My family has been coming here since the 1960’s
