Tuckahoe Creek, a quiet country stream bordered for most of its length by wooded marshlands, runs through the length of the park. A 60-acre lake offers boating and fishing. 

The park has 20 miles of scenic hiking, biking and equestrian trails, flat water canoeing, hunting, picnicking, as well as a recycled tire playground for children.

Activities include day camps, canoe trips, Scales & Tales presentations and displays. Each weekend, Memorial Day through Labor Day, park staff offer a number of free family activities. Check out flyers posted throughout the park or call the park office for more details.

Accessible picnic areas, visitors' center, playgrounds, restrooms, campground facilities, and hunting areas are very popular.

Tuckahoe State Park Campground

Two thumbs up on this small campground with spacious, wooded sites!

We stayed here on a Thursday when the campground was almost empty, but there was a reservations list that showed the campground would be full for the Columbus Day weekend. We have good luck walking up to campgrounds during the week, but we look ahead to weekends and make reservations.

**Spacious, Wooded Sites**

**-** Lots of shade and trees on large sites and space between sites make this a pleasant campground.

- Parking pads on the electric loop are asphalt.

- There's very finely crushed rock on the non-electric loop. This includes the parking pad and tent pad.

- There are 8 camper cabins, 4 on each loop. There are beds for 4 or 6 people, and the cabins have air conditioning, a ceiling fan and electricity. These are a nice alternative to camping in a tent.

- Bathrooms are located in the middle of each loop, and there are spigots on the loops with potable water.

**Small Park But Many Activities**

- Canoe/kayak launch between sites 46 and 48\. The walk to Tuckahoe Creek from the parking area is very short, and the creek leads to Tuckahoe Lake (no gasoline motors) with more of the creek on the other side of the lake.

- Fishing

- 20 miles of hiking trails are also open for biking and horseback riding.

- Archery range

- Disc golf

- Hunting - as a hiker, I am extremely wary of hiking in parks at a time when hunting is allowed.

Small campground, large sites, lots of shade

Site was heavily wooded and very private; we were surrounded by woods on three sides, and could only see our neighbors across the narrow loop road. Site included a picnic table, fire ring, grill grate and lantern post. Pad was nice and level; didn’t need to use any blocks. Drive way was just long enough to accommodate our truck. Site was a little farther from the bath house than we usually prefer, but didn’t really matter as we were camping sans kids this time. I loved the privacy of this site, so I didn’t mind the little bit of extra walking. Almost all the sites looked relatively private, with a fair amount of trees in between, but our was on of the only sites that was truly surrounded by forest. Since we were here in November, the leaves were especially beautiful. Bath house was large, heated and extremely clean; looks recently renovated. There was also a nice large dishwashing station on the Men's side, which I love. The park itself is very quiet, pretty, and easy to get around. Lots of multi-use trails, which i believe are mostly flat, so maybe not the best for die-hard hiking enthusiasts. We took the Lake Trail down to the day-use area, and it was a very pleasant, scenic hike that took less than 20 minutes. The lake/day-use area is beautiful, with a pavilion, picnic tables, boat launch area, volleyball and large recycled-tire playground for kids. There were quite a few people out and about, more than I would have expected during November. The lake is popular for fishing, kayaking and canoeing (no swimming allowed). During the on-season, canoes and kayaks are available for rent to explore the lake and water trails in the adjacent Tuckahoe Creek. Would love to come back in the summer to check them out. There is also a disc golf course, challenge course, and archery range on-site.

Overall, we really enjoyed this park. It has all the major elements we typically look for: privacy, lots of trees, electric hookups, clean bath house, large playground, and a place to fish. The fact that it’s only about an hour’s drive from us is a bonus. We can’t wait to come back in warmer weather with the kids!

Great, quiet park on MD's Eastern Shore

Quiet state park with limited cell reception. Truly off the map camping. Heavily wooden. Electric loop with central bathhouse. Clean with dishwashing station. Despite being booked for the Memorial Day weekend, this campground was quaint and very quiet. There was a creek behind our site, playgrounds, hiking trails, and boat rentals available within a short walk. We’ll be returning!

Quiet in the middle of nowhere 

This place was great, the staff was very helpful. We got there late and a ranger helped us get a spot. The spots are nice and cozy. They had a few cabins, as well as electric spots and non electric. The bathrooms And showers were very clean.

Theres plenty to do with the family. Nice nature trails, a lake with canoe and kayaks for rent ($10 an hour) which I definitely recommend. We saw so much local wildlife on our trip to the lake. They had cool playgrounds for the kiddos made out of recycled tires. My son really enjoyed that. If you get a chance to explore the surrounding area, I would check out the local arboretum. Overall an awesome little escape from our busy everyday lives!

Greal little weekend getaway

The campsite was very convenient. The fire pit had an attached grill for easy cooking if you do not have a grill yourself. Each site is tamped down with sand for your tents to rest on and can fit a single car comfortably. The only thing that might not be great for some is that you are rather close to other sites. This wasn’t a bother for us. There was a water sticker for cleaning and boiling as well as an honor system firewood shed. Nearby is a small lake where you can rent canoes. Would return!

Great place for easy camping

Tuckahoe is a go to for us for several reasons.  It is less than 40 mins from Annapolis and close to DC and Baltimore.   Yet it is isolated and quiet.  There’s some great trails as well as walking between the camp loops and picnic areas.  The electric loop has pretty level pads with paved drives.  They are sticklers about parking on the pad and the driveway.  There is one bathhouse per camping loop they are a 6 to 7 out of 10.  Nothing fancy.  

The hikes are scenic with the lake and the creek.  There’s also an awesome native plant arboretum nearby.   Adkins Aboretum.    Water is available at several locations around each loop.  Each loop has a handful of cabins available also.   Take everything you need.  There’s not much around for supplies.  Firewood is available at he front for $5 a pack.  Nicely dried and the sales help the park.   There’s also a picnic loop with some awesome playgrounds and slides.   Also good place for birding, fishing and stargazing.

Nice State Park campground close to Baltimore and DC

Tuckahoe is a hidden gem on Maryland’s mid-Eastern Shore region. With many of your standard amenities and a quiet atmosphere, it was a great spot for my first time camping with my kids.

Our campsite was on the non-electric loop. We had a small creek and trail back up to our campsite. We only had a handful of neighbors and foot traffic at the time was almost nonexistent, so we practically had the park to ourselves. 

There is an electric loop with electric hookup, but no water or sewer. Those can be found at the campground entrance. Each loop has a wood shed and clean, well-appointed bathhouse. There are water pumps along the road for refills.

There are 4 basic cabins on each loop and most sites are designed for RV and/or tent use. There are 3 sites that are tent-only on the non-electric loop.

Multiple trails in the area are widespread. Wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring a map! They also have equestrian trails with  an equestrian center nearby. The lakefront boasts a picnic area with individual tables and grills, recycled tire playground, and kayak rentals (for a fee). Fishing is allowed, but no swimming (which was a bummer for us, but exploring some of the local creeks helped provide some relief from the summer heat).

Nearby is Atkins Arboretum. Their 5 mile trail system covers around 400 acres. There are woods, “grasslands,” and “wetlands” to explore the various ecosystems of the Eastern Shore. They also had a goat area and garden play area for children. There is a fee through the Visitor’s Center which supports the center, but some of the trails can be accessed via other Tuckahoe trails.

Centrally located, you’re still within easy access to a local town center (Denton), supplies, and dining. I can’t recommend Tuckahoe enough if you just want a quiet spot or you’re new to camping!

Perfect First Family Camping Trip

Nice pads, even with rain none were flooded. The wooded area makes you feel a little more secluded from any neighbors. The state park has two playgrounds that are both open and trails to hike. I LOVE the commercial-sized washing sink for your dishes, since you don't have full hookups its a BIG deal. The bathrooms could use some updating, and the showers actual doors instead of double curtains. There's a nearby Arboretoreum as well. I think my only problem is that parts of this state park are not on adjoined property and you do have to drive to them.

Nice State Park retreat

We go to Tuckahoe a lot.   There are two main, amp ground loops.  Each have central bath house.  One loop has electric at the sites.  There is portable water available at several locations in each loop.   No water hook ups.  There’s a nice lake for paddling and fishing and great hiking trails.  Adkins Arboretum is just a mile away and a great place to visit and hike.  
Sites are all back in. They’re fairly level and all are wooded and well separated.

We took out 1st trip to Tuckahoe over the 4th of July weekend. We really liked the park, but beware, the sites can be small! I watched people with 25+ footers struggle to back into the sites. We booked site 21, blind. The web site does not say site 21 is extremely small. We have a 25' camper, and it barely fit, length and with were an issue. The firepit was about 3-4 feet from our door. No camp fires as it was not safe. The canopy was directly over the pit!! It also rained pretty hard one day, and since we couldn't put the mat in front of the door, there was water &amp; mud right when you stepped out. I could not move the pit because it was cemented in. If you go to Tuckahoe don't reserve site 21 unless you're tent camping!!! Other that that issue, it wasn't a bad visit, there's lots to do. We made a list of sites we'd fit in and still have room to use the firepit and our stuff. Going to book future trips!

Great Campground Very small sites!!!

A rather typical state part. Fishing, boating, camping, and hiking. The campground was fully booked for the weekend but the other areas weren't crowded as I've seen at other MD state parks. The pump out station was very nice.

Somethings I negatives about Tuckahoe:
We lost power during a rain storm.
The farm roads around the park are very bumpy. The Camp store has weird hours (I forgot to pack the bacon and ruined the trip!!!!)
The site was tiny and right on the road.

Very quiet campground surrounded by trees. Stop at the camp store to get fired wood (asked not to bring your own). 
A lot of walking trials, and a pond to fish in. 

Peaceful 

We camped with our 17' travel trailer at site 19E with electric hookups. Some sites have water and sewer as well, which is rare in a MD state park. We had a picnic table, lantern pole and fire ring in a spacious, wooded site. Good dry wood was available for $5 a bundle. The restrooms were spotless. Hiking trails everywhere- and all level for easy biking. There's a small lake where many people were fishing for bass, and a calm waterway (Tuckahoe River) excellent for kayaking. We had our own yaks, but the park will rent them. A few miles down the road is a boat launch (Hillsboro) with access to another section of the Tuckahoe River, also great for kayaking. We saw beautiful aquatic plants, many birds, and a gazillion turtles. We paddled past several beaver dams, but they successfully stayed hidden. We love this park and campground! 

Great Kayaking and Beautiful Woods

We stayed here in March and loved it! The little office had a few items for sale but the woman who works there is so nice. We talked with her for awhile. There was a small lending library next to the store/office and wood was for sale too. There are sites that aren’t level but ours was okay. Nearby is St. Michael’s, MD. We went to the Eastern Shore Brewing Company where dogs are allowed indoors and then went next door to the Lyon Rum Windon Distilling Company. Also next to those is St. Michael’s winery tasting room. Something for everyone! There is an arboretum near he campground that was interesting too. Lake Tuckahoe is available to put your own canoe or kayak in or go fishing. There was a trail from the campground to the lake that was gravel. Eastern shore of t huh Chesapeake Bay offers lots of great scenery and things to do. 

Beautiful 

We love this campground. We’ve stayed twice in the electric loop and both times had a quiet stay. The campsites are typically spacious and spaced out well. Bathrooms are clean. There is so much to do right in this area as well. Lots of hiking. We highly recommend the nearby arboretum and don’t miss the opportunity to see the aviary at the park office. The ranger was so nice there and went in to each enclosure to handle and show us owls, eagles, and falcons. A highlight of the trip!
