Strolling through four ecosystems on over a mile of boardwalks through Tickfaw State Park, visitors can experience the sights and sounds of a cypress/tupelo swamp, a bottomland hardwood forest, a mixed pine/hardwood forest and the Tickfaw River.

Periodically the park site serves the region by detaining floodwaters when winter and spring rains overflow the steep banks of the Tickfaw River. These periods of occasional flooding offer a unique opportunity to educate visitors on the importance of periodic flooding in the cycle of life that makes wetlands an invaluable habitat and breeding ground for wildlife and fisheries.

At Tickfaw State park, you can go night hiking or listen to the swamp nightlife from the porch of your vacation cabin. Check at the Nature Center for scheduled programs. While there, view the 800-gallon aquarium stocked with fish found in the Tickfaw River. There are also displays featuring the animals, history and culture of the area and of Louisiana. Be sure to watch the 8-minute introductory video about the history of the park area.

Bicycle, stroll or skate the interconnecting park roadways. Bring your canoe or kayak and take a fun-filled trip on this unique section of the Tickfaw River. The Water Playground offers refreshing fun for those not quite adventurous enough to explore the swamps and sloughs.

We enjoy going out to Tickfaw SP every chance we get.  It has some great shady sites; paved, back-in; majority have wooden decks that are campsite level.  

We also see wild life when visiting, raccoons, rabbits, many varieties of birds, and yes, snakes (it's nature, people).  The snakes we have seen have been garter snakes and king snakes (non-venomous). 

Great splash-pad for the kiddos in summertime. Wonderful Nature Station and great fishing, either at the pond or at the river at the end of the park.

This park is VERY family friendly.

Camping - There are 2 loops - 1-primative tent only camping, 1-RV/tent camping. There is a nice bathhouse in a central location to both loops. There is a bit of privacy between tent spots because of the trees. My favorite spots are 47,49,50\. I have had a few of my reservations cancelled by the park when the river is high because the camping areas will flood.

Park - there are few different hiking trails - check Tickfaw River levels (or call park) because when the river is high, 1 or 2 of the trails could be under water. There is a ADA boardwalk trail that is very nice (especially for the kiddos) with a covered picnic area. The park offers a nature center that is really nice and they have animal demonstrations where you are able to really learn about Louisiana wildlife and touch the animals as well. This park is a great place to bring bikes as well. During the summer months, there is a splash pad that kids really enjoy. This is also a great park to rent canoes (or bring your own) for a day out on the waterways.

Tickfaw State Park is a Louisiana State Park located just outside of Springfield, LA.  The park is not very large, but big enough not to constantly run into people.  On this visit, we took our Christmas pictures along the “Cypress Gum Trial” - a boardwalk walk trail located across the street from the campsites and around the playground(s).  There is a nice covered area with picnic tables.  There are 2 camping loops - (1) for tents and (1) for RV’s.  Our site, #37 on the tent loop, we had enough space as well as privacy.  We went the weekend after Thanksgiving and the park was not overcrowded and the weather was perfect.  I did find the boardwalk trail was VERY slippery covered in wet leaves.

Had a couple of snakes show up creeping under our camper. After that I just couldn't enjoy it, lol. Nice trails where we saw a couple of alligators . Pretty wild flowers. A small pond to kayak,  where we were greeted by a watch out for gator sign!  Back in RV spot, had water and electric hookup.

Tickfaw is a great location. Campsites were spacious and quite. There's fishing and plenty of walking trails. Highly suggested for those that prefer the state park wildlife camping.

Beautiful State Park Close to Main Cities

I stayed on a solo trip overnight on the way to somewhere else, the loop of tent sites were all wet except one (wish I remembered sorry) it was super loud at night with swamp things. Rangers were super nice! Biked around a bit and went on all the walking trails, I’d suggest having shoes that can get trashed. It was quite muddy!

Tickfaw State Park 

Had a great time at this beautiful and secluded state park. Took a few hikes around the river as well as some late night walks along the boardwalk hoping to see a gator (no such luck). Saw some cool wildlife none the less though. Failure nice and well managed. Campsites are large and easy to back into. And sure, there are some snakes, but it's the swamp!!

Have visited twice.  First visit, my original campsite was flooded and was able to switch to another site. 
Last trip was good but site 35 is very close to 33. The fire rings are within 30 feet of each other and can hear other campers talk, however the primitive sites were nice. They have about 4-5 trails, a splashpad, nature center and you can rent a canoe. Had alot of fun and is pet friendly. 

Primitive trip

Went for a few nights solo camping (with my dog) in late January, so we had the tent area to ourselves until Friday afternoon. Really impressed with the cleanliness of the grounds, but some of the fire pits and grills could use some work. Great variety of campsite layouts, as well as a couple of wheelchair friendly ones. Facilities were clean and plentiful. Several miles of trails showcasing the beauty of southern Louisiana. Will definitely be going back.

Highly recommended, but busy on weekends.

Nice and quiet campground.  We met some great folk and the camp host was very friendly and accommodating.  Will be returning at the end of June 2022

Peaceful

As we were driving into the Springfield, LA area from the east, our GPS wanted to take us a different route than the website directions that follow the signage to the state park. This would have had us end up on dirt roads, so definitely follow the website directions and follow the signs. Check in was quick and easy. When we booked the reservation we used the 20% military discount but found out upon arrival that LA State Parks give a 50% discount for seniors 62+ and you don’t have to be a state resident. The ranger processed a refund for us as he checked us in. You cannot beat$10 a night for this park even though its still recovering from hurricane Ida and the boardwalk trails and canoe rentals were still closed. You can also still see massive tree damage throughout the park but the campground(CG) area has been cleaned up. After check in, we proceeded to back-in site 17 with water(very good pressure) and 50/30 electric. The pad was plenty long enough for our 39’ fifth wheel and our F-450 truck as are most sites in the park. Site 17 pretty much sits off by itself and it's one of the most spacious sites in the CG. Most of the sites are pretty much a 90 degree angle to back-in but there’s enough room to swing your vehicle. If you are worried about backing, site 15 is probably the easiest back-in site the way it sits off a curve. We got 2 bars on Verizon. They actually have a laundry room with 3 washers and dryers costing both$1.75 to wash&amp; dry. However, there was not a change machine in the laundry area. There’s a small fishing lake behind the CG down a short road between sites 15 and 17. The lake has a cool boardwalk fishing pier that was in good shape. There’s a dirt trail that goes around the lake but be aware there are some pretty good sized gators lounging about. We enjoyed our 2 nights stay and would not hesitate coming back.

Great Value with Senior Discount

Got to the park with no reservation and found a spot no problem. There are both tent and RV slots. RV neighbors are visible, but there is a bit of space.,Each slot comes with a table on a wooden platform, a fire ring, and what appears to be a game hook, as well as a water spigot and electric hookup.

Took a walk before the rain set in. Many of the boardwalk trails appear to be closed due to storm damage. Saw a whole pack of night herons flying together. The bayou is spooky feeling with gator crossing zones and interesting cypress trees. Seems like it should be buggier than it is for on a warm day in late March. 

The restroom and laundry room seem clean and well tended. 

Laid back huricane impacted bayou 

First trip back since Hurricane Ida.  Since my last visit, they have added a lot of tentrr sites in the tent section and 2 or 3 around the lake. The paddle trail is open, and while paddling, I saw a family of otters. There’s only around 2 hiking trails open, one around the lake and a portion of the long trail, which goes to the river, in and out. Spoke with a ranger who stated they think most of the trails will be open in 8 months.
