## Overview

 Nestled on the shores of Cave Run Lake, this camp is part of the larger Twin Knobs Recreation Area. There are more than 200 sites spread out over 10 loops under a dense forest of mixed conifer and deciduous trees. The recreation area includes two reservable group picnic areas. Group camping is also available.
## Recreation

 Summer amphitheater programs and scheduled campground activities provide family fun and entertainment. The campground also has volleyball courts, basketball hoops and horseshoe pits. There is a boat ramp and beach. Popular lake activities include fishing, swimming, motor boating, windsurfing, sailing and water skiing. Scenic foot trails include the 2.5-mile Twin Knobs Shoreline Trail and the 1.5-mile Knob Overlook Trail.
## Facilities

 There is a variety of different camp sites that include paved spurs that can accommodate any size RV, picnic tables, fire rings and grills. Some sites have electric hookups. Facilities include bathhouses with showers, drinking water and flush toilets. The bathhouses and some picnic areas are accessible.
## Natural Features

 The Daniel Boone National Forest embraces some of the most rugged terrain west of the Appalachian Mountains. The forest lies within the Cumberland Plateau, where steep forested slopes, sandstone cliffs and narrow ravines characterize the land in this region. Cave Run Lake is in the Cumberland District in the northernmost part of the forest. The lake is surrounded by the rolling hills of northeastern Kentucky. 
## Nearby Attractions

 The Morehead Office Visitor Center offers information about the Daniel Boone National Forest in addition to interpretive exhibits. A popular attraction within the Daniel Boone National Forest is the Red River Gorge Geological Area, which features more than 100 natural sandstone arches.

Twin Knobs Recreation Area

We stayed June 5th through June 9th and it rained every day, a lot.  Our campsite (A-30) drained the rain off really well.  The staff are constantly working to keep everything clean and repaired.  We had two campers on the site lined up on one side.  One is a 22 ft. and the other a 37 ft.  We had plenty of room on the campsite.  We ended up putting up 4 popups because of the rain.  The site is level and graveled.  This is one of the most popular sites and we booked it 6 months in advance.  I wish they had more electric loops as more people are camping in a camper of some sort.  We had a lot of kids, so we ended up running out of water.  I had to carry water from about 500 or 600 ft away.  They also need more water hookups.  I know, I'm a glamper.  Still love this place and will continue to stay every chance I get.

Nice place nestled in the trees close to the water. Can't easily access the water though, and wish you didn't have to set up on a gravel pad.

Twin Knobs Campground

We stayed in the F loop on site F22 primitive camping. It had a short path to the lake, easy access for shore swimming or fishing. Great for kids and adults. Bathhouse was close and had private bathrooms/ showers.

We rented a pontoon boat from Scott's Creek Marina about 5 minutes away and had a great day on the lake. Be sure to stop into the Cave Run Bait Shop and ask them about Jiggin the Bondy.

Plenty to do. Hiking trails, horseback trails, beautiful fishing &amp; boating lake. Large private sites. Hot showers , spotless restroom. You will love it. Come for a visit .red river gorge near by, Carter caves. Lots to do &amp; see restaurants near by

This campground is so awesome.  Large private campsites, beautiful lake. 

I have camped here in the spring and summer. This was my first trip in fall. The weather was wet and cold, but it couldn’t take away from the experience. The campsite that I was on was a double.(A30). It has electric, no water or sewage on the spot. We had 2 campers on the site with plenty of room. One is 37 ft and the other is 24 ft. There was plenty of downed trees to cut up. You should bring a bow saw. We also brought some wood. We were close to the water and trails. All of the teens that were with us had a ball(hiking, biking, basketball, and fishing). Sites are all clean and level and the bathrooms are clean.

Beautiful in the fall

We stayed at this campground one night on our drive from the east to west coast. This campground and area is beautiful and we lived our stay! It was mid-May and we had no neighbors in our primitive site. We were walking distance to the lake and the views were lovely. This was one of the best campsite we found on our whole trip.

Grew up going here and still to this day it is my absolute favorite place to camp. You can tent camp which is what we did growing up or you places for campers. Most of all of the sites are shaded. Close walk to the lake with quite a few walking trails. Nice bathhouse’s. 

Beautiful!

This drive in camp site is a pay only and it’s best to call a couple weeks before your trip to reserve you spot! You can tent camp, pop up, or set up your pull behind. Twin Knobs is very clean and spacious campsites and most are on the water! This campground has basketball courts, a beach area, restrooms and more. Pet friendly but must stay on a leash. 

Twin Knobs

This time of year (October) this campground is walk up only. We got there as quick as we could and are glad we did as we were able to grab an awesome site. There are tent sites and RV sites here and the campground is gorgeous. It’s right on a lake(so expect boat traffic) and there are several loops all along the lake. Those loops are connected by a trail that I enjoyed walking on. Internet service is spotty there– our Verizon hotspot worked ok, but the Sprint was super slow. There are mountain biking trails that you can access right from the campground so that was nice. You can also go on a short hike up one of the knobs. However, there really isn’t a good view at the top. I loved this campground and would go back in a heartbeat! In fact, I didn’t want to leave!

Awesome campground on the lake!

Great place to stay if your looking to access the lake quicker and if you need to run out to get supplies. But since I've stayed at Zilpo as well, I'm a little biased on this review. But overall a good place to camp and take the kids and lots of access to boat ramps and a close marina. The shore on the twin knobs are seem to be more steep and rocky, as apposed to Zilpo(which are more of a sandy bank). So if you bank fish, Zilpo.Boat fishing twin knobs.

Easy access to the Lake

This is our all time favorite campground. Spots are secluded and you feel like you really are out camping in the middle of the woods (unlike lots of campgrounds that are just concrete pads jammed together). Shower houses are super clean and well kept. The lake is absolutely beautiful and great for kayaking. Also highly recommend Pops if you’re looking for a good place to eat! Twin Knobs has ruined us and given us high expectations for other campgrounds.

Sept camping and cooler weather is what we enjoy. 
Not only did we like the shady campsites but the neatness of the whole area. 
 Of all the good things about the campground. I like the friendly personnels the best. 

First time here. 

Had a great time. Campsites were spaced out nicely, bathrooms were spotless, staff was friendly and actively keeping the place in order. The only issue, and the only reason it wasn’t a five star review, was the loud children coming from a group of two or three campsites that seemed to be there together. I understand children playing can be noisy, but this was well into evening and yelling at the top of their lungs. 

Great campground 

Been camping here for more than 40 years, as a kid we loved it, as an adult camping with kids, love it even more. A few of the sites we have stayed in recently are D011, G007, and I008. All were great, plenty of privacy, sites are far enough away that you don't feel right on top of each other but close enough to the amenities (trash, bathroom, etc.) that you don't feel lost in the wilderness!

This portion of Daniel Boone National Forest is peak beauty in the summer, the beautiful mature trees and well maintained sites make camping so much more enjoyable. The camp hosts are always helpful when needed but not overbearing. Amenities are near enough if you forget something, you'd never know staying here that there is a Walmart about 20 minutes away if you forget something important.

Get a site close to the water to bring your canoe/kayak or do some fishing from the shore. This is BY FAR our favorite place in Kentucky to camp. Happy Camping!

Most Beautiful Campground Around!

Was referred by a co-worker on twin knobbs. Went just for the night but spend all day on check-in day and the next day till we had to check out. Was beautiful, peaceful, and so relaxing!! Hubby and I haven’t has a nice time like that in like 20 years. Will most definitely be going back

Spontaneous camping trip

We camped here in June when the temps were in the 90's and the shade that the trees in this campground offer were a life saver.  The campground is always clean and the sites are level with gravel.  They have picnic tables and fire pits at each site and water is usually close.  Check maps because you may need to stop at the dump/water station on the way in for fill up.  We were on A32 this trip and really enjoyed the seclusion of the site. It is a double site.  We have my 37 foot TT and my sisters 24 foot TT with plenty of room for 4 vehicles on site.  I like this campground because unlike state parks, they don't allow hover boards, motor bikes, or golf carts to run around the grounds.  That sounds like an old woman response, but when you have about 20 (not exaggerating) hover boards and kids running around on golf carts constantly, it makes for an unpleasant trip.  So remember this place if you want peace and quiet.  Also, you have to book 6 months in advance to get a good spot.  Bath houses are clean also.  The only thing negative that I can say is that the trail down to the water was blocked with a fallen tree and a lot of poison ivy.

Great campground with large sites. Site with water and electric and some without. Bathhouses are the cleanest we’ve seen. The lake is right there and easy to access.

A new favorite 

Fantastic NF campground with everything for anyone. Clean bathrooms and showers. Big sites with water in between. Great hiking trails and if you have kayaks or small boats….. looks like you’ve found the place. Oh and this place has good cell service too. 

Great NF campground with everything 

Good level spots. Quiet the first week of April. Good picnic table and fire pit. Restrooms are not far from any of the site in the loop. Will update after we use the shower house. I thought that we would be able to walk from our location to the camp store. It is possible but not easy. The camp store and laundry were closed March 31, bought firewood at entry for $8 a bundle.

We stayed on an inner loop and was happy with our site but after scouting other sites, we would definitely go for an outer loop lakeside site next time.  Gravel pads. Bathroom and showers were good.  Quiet, peaceful campground with friendly staff. Enjoy all the lake activities!

We always make sure this is our #1 spot to go it's our home base campground , love the mature trees in the campground and the trail around the lake . It's beautiful ❤️ down here must visit.

Stayed on the F Loop next to the lake, fire pit, picnic table, level tent site and bathroom showers a short walk. Camp hosts very friendly and helpful. campsite are close together.
