Thunder River Outdoor Recreation and Campground is located along the Russell Fork River in what is known locally as the “Splashdam” area in Haysi, VA. The property was once home to a thriving coal community until a flood in 1957. After that it served as the site for a Clinchfield Coal Company “tipple” for several years. More recently the property was abandoned and had become overgrown and pretty much uninhabitable. The site, now owned by the Hill family has undergone a transformation to become a destination for camping and outdoor recreation.

The location beside the river offers access for fishing, kayaking/canoeing/tubing, swimming and picnicking in a private setting. During the month of October, with the release of water from the John Flannagan Dam, Dickenson County and the Russell Fork become a destination for white water rafters.

The property is also on an ATV route with access to the Haysi Ridgeview Trailhead approximately one mile away. The Haysi Ridgeview Trail is part of the Spearhead Trail system which in connection with the Coal Canyon trail offers approximately 200 miles of trails (connects to the town of Grundy and the Breaks Park).

Twin Hollow Campground & Cabins is located off Rt. 52 in the town of Gilbert, West Virginia and offers Mountaintop Cabins & Camping with amazing views overlooking the beautiful Appalachian Mountains.

We offer 11 Mountaintop Cabins of 3 different styles which can accommodate couples, families, or groups of up to 10. We also offer Primitive Camping, along with 13 Water & Electric, and 9 Full Hookup Sites. We also offer Event Field Rentals, Onsite Side By Side & ATV Rentals & Trail Guide Services, an Onsite BBQ Restaurant, Private Hiking Trials, & a Private Fishing Pond.

From Twin Hollow guests are able to access the small towns of Gilbert, Man, Matewan, Delbarton, & Williamson WV. All are ATV Friendly Communities which means you are allowed to ride your ATVs, Dirt Bikes, & UTVs from day light to dark inside town limits (11:00pm in Gilbert).

## Overview

Nestled among mountains and dense forests, the Fishtrap Lake area will appeal to anyone who loves boating, fishing or hiking. A man-made lake surrounded by natural beauty, Fishtrap Lake was created to help control flooding along the Ohio and Big Sandy Rivers.   
  
The lakes location allows visitors to choose from endless recreational opportunities, whether its water sports on the lake, hiking on nearby trails or picnicking in the picturesque group area. 

#### Natural Features:

Fishtrap Lake sits in the rich coalfield country of Kentucky, surrounded by steep and lush mountainous terrain. The site is well-known for wildlife viewing and has become a haven for local animals, especially deer.

#### Recreation:

Boat ramps are available for fisherman and boating enthusiasts. The surrounding wildlife area provides numerous trails for hiking and horseback riding, and additional developed trails can be accessed at the nearby Lick Creek Recreation Area.

#### Facilities:

Fishtrap Lake Shelters provide covered picnic areas with playgrounds, perfect for kids. While everyone can appreciate the scenery provided by the lake, which serves as a breathtaking backdrop to any party or family get-together.   
  
Two shelters are located at the Dam Site Recreation Area, and a third shelter is located at the Grapevine Recreation Area, a short drive away.   
  
Camping is also available nearby at the Grapevine Recreation Area.
