Enjoy camping on the banks of the Kentucky River year-round! The campground offers 166 sites with electricity and water hookups; 18 have full hookups. There are 2 central service buildings and 3 dump stations. An activities building can accommodate 150 people, and central service buildings provide showers, rest rooms, and laundry facilities. Fort Boonesborough State Park Campground

Fort Boonesborough SP is near I64 and I75 Between Lexington and Richmond , Ky. The Kentucky River is adjacent. I remember watching Daniel Boone in black and white when I was a kid. The Fort is very cool.

I imagine the staff here stays very busy considering the amount of people that pass through. Then there are those visitors that try to get the most for their money and stuff as many people as possible into one site. And my favorite, the ones that think it’s someone else’s responsibility to clean up their trash. So here’s a shout out to the people that do their best to keep it working and try to keep a professional smile on their face while putting up with the less then polite visitors.

Alrighty then.....nice enough busy campground with some sites definitely more preferable then others. Knowing the campground and reserving ahead always makes your stay better. 
We visited in the off season so did not have to worry about the crowds. Showerhouse was adequate and the sites reasonably level. Sort of a “every available spot” used kinda campground and I would not want to stay here when it is at full capacity.
I’m here for the hiking mostly and enjoyed the trails and bridges. The Fort was VERY cool. If my kids were still at home this would definitely be a field trip location! 
In the area is the Beer Cheese Trail check it out!

Walk through history 

We usually visit this park year round. In the summer, the pool is the best in the area. The beach makes great fishing, and there's a nice playground for the little ones. The fort itself is a great learning experience for kids and adults!

RV park had plenty of room, and is well taken care of as well.

A great family Park!

This campground is on the banks of the Kentucky River and, like so many other waterways, the levels are really down due to the drought.   It's a nicely wooded campground but the drawback is that it's near an asphalt plant that starts early in the morning and runs until dinner time.  The smell and noise are yuck!


Not bad...

This campground has a newly updated bath house and 20 sewer sites, along with plenty of other sites near the woods or out in the open to choose from. There's always a list of planned activities from tie dying shirts to early morning putt putt competitions, so that's nice if you need to occupy any children. And the playground and grocery store were nice offerings as well. Also, there's a nearby fort from the 1800's to explore if you have a couple free hours.

Clean Campground with activities for all!

We really liked this campground and kayaking on the Kentucky River is great. Tons of activities for the kids and even adults. Only downsize we found was our site was a good distances from the bath houses and we didn’t bring bikes or anything.

Great Campground

I was very interested in this area for the living history museum but as a tent camper I had more than a little sticker shock at the $36 price point not to mention the booking fee on Reserve America.   That made this one of the most expensive campgrounds I have stayed at including numerous stops in California.  😒

The sites were well shaded and included the typical set up of fire rings and picnic tables but I did feel a little closer to my neighbor than I would have liked.   I can only imagine the feeling to and RV camper would be even more suffocating.

The campground was noisy and busy as it was a weekend, and while some of that can be expected for the higher price point I would have liked things to have been a bit more accommodating to those times, maybe they should offer a few less sites so there can be a bit more space so if it is busy you don’t feel like you are suffocated by noise.  

With that being said, not all was bad here.   The things to do outside of th campground itself were worth some of the inadequacies the camp provided in way of space.   The living history museum was one of the best I have seen in the Kentucky or Tennessee area and other amenities such as water access and proximity to hiking was great.   

If I did return it would be during the week and potentially not during summer to avoid the crowd.

Pricey but interesting

AC in very clean bath house was a big plus. we were close to the river in a reasonably secluded spot. there are lots of activities and trails in the area.

This is a very nice park. There were lots of activities going on the weekend we were there. Playground was really good. Many of the sites were small. They had about 30 sites that have sewage. The rest of the sites had electric and water. There were tent sites also.  The bath house was nice and clean. The staff was super friendly. There is miniature golf and a small store on site. There is a walking trail trough the woods to Ft Boonesboro (a recreation of the original fort). Unfortunately it was a wet rainy weekend when we went, so we didn’t get to tour the fort.  We would definitely go back. 

Nice! 

We were excited to check out this campground on a big trip from Michigan to Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana but we were very disappointed in it! The campground was overly packed - 2-3 cars per site on most. Our site was so dirty, we picked up a Walmart bag full of trash and we didn't get close to all of it - so much was buried sticking out of the dirt. The staff was not friendly. We also found it to have a ton of road noise. We ended up leaving after only one night (forfeiting the additional two nights we booked - they stated they couldn't refund because we booked online and They don't have our money) 

We did love going through the fort and kids enjoyed that but pool was a long ways from our site so we didn't go check it out - drove by looks nice.

There was other sites that were grassy and looked cleaner - ours was dirt and in back 

They do have nice paved areas to park your camper on.



Dirty and noisy 

I think I'm spoiled to the koa campgrounds.  Very dark ar night. Staff not friendly.   Said they couldn't print a copy of what I paid. Very disappointing.

Not my favorite 

This is very good for a family that wants to camp. We stayed in the primitive campsite and it was clean and quiet. The grocery store and showers where very close by. They offer the opportunity to rent a golf cart for $25 a week. Fishing is also great! 

Great glamping spot

First the good. This state park is well maintained and staffed by very friendly people. I hate not being able to give it high marks.

But this campground is absolutely ruined by the adjacent strone quarry. They begin work at 6am and all you hear is stone crushers and beeping trucks backing up. Horrible!

Although this campground is not a true woodsy feel like many state parks, the small sites along Kentucky River give the best feel. We are on site 145 and our 27' just fits. They are pretty unlevel, but we like the site nonetheless. 

A shame the quarry ruins this cam

Well maintained. Too noisy.

The campground is a decent stop  we’ve actually stayed twice passing through. Bonus it’s one of a handful of KY state parks open in the winter but they don’t have the water on of course. They do have a site where you can fill your tank though.
