Kansas

The Best Car Camping in Kansas

This is the site of a decommissioned Atlas F Missile Silo which was abandoned by the Air Force in the 60's.

You will receive a historical tour of the Missile Base property and the underground Launch Control Center with a tunnel that leads to the 186 ft deep Missile Silo. (This is a construction zone, as the bunker is being renovated into an underground home. Be prepared to sign liability waivers.)

Located in the Smokey Hills of Kansas, you will be camping in beautiful fields with great views of a 250 MW windfarm.

Hike over a mile of trails on the property and pick out your own camp spot.

Join other guests at the top of the Missile Silo for a campfire at night and enjoy stargazing.

Just mins away from the local tavern and restaurants in Wilson.

Nearby is Lake Wilson, one of the largest and cleanest lakes in the State, there are water sports and Epic rated mountain biking trails.

Just to let you know this is a primitive Campground. The outhouse has a composting bucket toilet.

Missile Silo Adventure Campground

10 minutes for downtown KC., MO. and 15 minutes from Overland Park, KS., Walnut Grove RV Park offers a total of 50 lots. We are not a resort, so we don't have pool or activities. You stay here so you can do all those things in the city around us. Amenities include hot showers, clean restrooms, laundromat, dump station, dog park, both 30 and 50 amps sites are available with full hook-ups at each lot. WiFi internet service is available from edge to edge of the park! Paved roads lead to our 50 sites, that our staff is more than happy to help get you in and out of with ease! Along with the historical attractions, there are also several Casino’s near the park; Harrah’s, Argosy, Casino KC and Hollywood Casino. All are located within a 15 minutes drive! Maps and Brochures are available anytime in the front of the office, or just ask one of our Staff for directions to your destination and they will print you a map on the spot! ALSO, with tournament time rapidly approaching, The National Intramural Softball Fields are located just 5 miles West of the Park on Johnson Drive. If planning to attend a tournament please make reservations EARLY. We wish to accommodate everyone, but with conventions and special events, we ask that you make your reservations as much in advance as possible, with only 50 lots, a prime location, and our rock-star staff, we have a tendency to fill up FAST! 65′ Max RV Site Available Length



Walnut Grove RV Park

Good Sam Club ratings 9/10/9.5. Facebook dubbed it the #1 RV park in Kansas. Big rig friendly with 58 pull-thru sites up to 90’ long and 31 back-in sites. 50/30/20 Amp service and some sites have dual sewer. Guests enjoy the swimming pool, playground, horseshoe pits, clean bath houses and laundry facility, game room, book exchange and general store. The park also has a tenting area and the Cowboy Bunkhouse is also available for rent.  Conveniently located at the intersection of US 50/400 and US 50/56, just a short drive to all the old west attractions, local casino, race track, event center, water park and more. 

Gunsmoke RV Park

Small, quiet campground just off I-135, (Exit 40) in a country setting. We have all pull-through sites with choice of 30 or 50 amp hook-ups. Tent camping available. Nature trail with lots of birds along a nice creek. Laundry facilities and a nice Chinese restaurant next door. Lovely coffee shop and one of the state's newest Casey's just the other side of the interstate. Centrally located near many Kansas attractions.



Cottonwood Grove RV Campground

Deer Grove RV Park / campground is open year round with Daily, Weekly and Monthly rates available. We have 45 full hookup sites, 16 pull thru sites and 29 back in sites.

Deer Grove offers an area for tents. The shower house is available close by. There are picnic tables and a portable fire ring available. If needed, 20 amp electric service is available for the tents.

Small Rallys and Groups are welcomed at Deer Grove! We have a clubhouse available for your use as you stay in our campground. There are many local attractions located in El Dorado and the surrounding communities. There are many seasonal events to base your Rally around.

Deer Grove RV Park

## Overview

Sylvan Park Campground is located below the dam at Wilson Lake in the wide open spaces of central Kansas.   
  
A few campsites overlook the Saline River exiting the dam, while a handful of other sites overlook the Old Saline River channel. 

## Recreation

Boating is the most popular pastime on the lake, with plenty of room for water skiing, wake boarding, jet skiing, sailing and more.   
  
The high salinity content of the Saline River makes drinking and irrigation difficult without special treatment, but it aids the stocking of ocean-native Striped Bass, which have been known to reach enormous sizes in Wilson Lake.   
  
This and many other game fish species have been enhanced by a stocking program conducted by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. Walleye, Large and Smallmouth bass can be found in abundance in the lake, as well as White bass, channel and flathead catfish.   
  
Several trails are available to visitors, including the Bur Oak Nature Trail located in Sylvan Park. This 3/4 mile nature walk is a self guided interpretive trail, that has many interpretive stations along the path.   
  
Wilson Lake also offers hunting opportunities for a variety of game animals, including pheasant, quail, prairie chicken, whitetail deer, turkey, waterfowl and rabbit.

## Facilities

Sylvan Park Campground offers 27 reservable modern campsites, along with an 8-site group camp area and large group picnic shelter that can accommodate up to 50 guests.   
  
Most campsites offer sweeping views of the surrounding prairie, in addition to a handful of sites which offer a beautiful view of the Saline River.   
  
Access to hiking trails and a boat ramp make exploring the area convenient for visitors, while others looking to stay closer to the campground can enjoy an on-site sand volleyball court and playground. 

## Natural Features

Wilson lake, known as the "clearest lake in Kansas," is located in the Smoky Hills of North Central Kansas--a rolling landscape of hills, buttes and hazy valleys.   
  
Also known as Post Rock Country, the area contains thousands of miles of stone fenceposts and buildings that have been constructed out of the area's local limestone.   
  
This and other unique geologic formations and mixed grass prairie lands provide an excellent scenic backdrop for recreation around the lake. 

## Nearby Attractions

Wilson State Park, also located on the south side of the lake, offers additional recreation opportunities, as well as Lucas and Minooka Parks.  
  
Visitors can check out the nearby town of Lucas, known for its unique artistic spirit and attractions, or experience the rich historical heritage of Wilson, Kansas and other surrounding communities.

Sylvan Park

## Overview

Turkey Point Campground is situated on Melvern Lake on the eastern edge of the Flint Hills of Kansas. Visitors enjoy the area's wide range of recreational activities, including boating, fishing, hiking and hunting. ## Recreation

Melvern Lake impounds nearly 7,000 acres of water on the upper reaches of the Marais des Cygnes River Valley. Boating and swimming are popular activities on the lake. Anglers will find walleye, crappie, channel and flathead catfish, as well as black, striped, white and smallmouth bass. The 18,000 acres of land surrounding Melvern Lake provide plentiful hiking and hunting opportunities. Several trails wind around the lake, including a 1 mile trail located in the campground connecting to the day-use area. Hunters may find deer, quail, turkeys, ducks, rabbits and squirrels throughout the area.

## Facilities

The campground offers two group camps. One offers a group campsite with basic amenities, a pit privy, and a shelter with a grill, water, and electricity.   
The second offers 12 camp pads with 50 amp electric and water utilities, a restroom, a shelter with grill, and a playground.   
There are 43 family campsites, many with water and electric hook-ups, throughout the park. Several family picnic sites are available on a first-come-first-served basis.   
  
Amenities include flush and vault toilets, showers, drinking water and a dump station. A boat ramp, dock, fish cleaning station and three playgrounds all provide additional recreation opportunities.

## Natural Features

The Flint Hills represent America's last expanse of intact tallgrass prairie, made up of big bluestem, switchgrass and Indian grass. The rolling hills on the south side of the lake are wooded, and the campground has scattered trees and some shade.

Turkey Point

## Overview

Tuttle Creek Cove Campground is a large, quiet oasis located on the shores of Tuttle Creek Lake in the wide open expanse of northeast Kansas.

## Recreation

Tuttle Creek Lake's 11 parks, marina, 10,900 acres of water and 20,000 acres of land provide ample opportunities for outdoor recreation activities. Boating, fishing and hiking top the list.   
  
Power boaters on Tuttle Creek Lake will enjoy the lake's large main body of water on calm days for water skiing and pleasure boating. Canoeists and kayakers will find River Pond below the dam a perfect place for paddling. The state park offers canoe, kayak, and paddleboat rentals.   
  
Bald eagles, white-tailed deer, Canada geese, wild turkeys, crappie, walleye, channel catfish and other wildlife can be found at Tuttle Creek Lake. The lake's fish and wildlife resources provide sightseers, anglers and hunters ample opportunities for their sports.   
  
The lake also boasts miles of hiking, biking, off-road vehicle and equestrian trails. The Blue River Trail, a one mile long loop in Outlet Park, provides excellent views of wildlife in all seasons. Tuttle Creek Cove Campground offers 39 compact campsites on a scenic lakeshore setting. Showers, flush toilets and other modern amenities are provided.

## Natural Features

Tuttle Creek Lake is situated in the northern portion of the Flint Hills, which are characterized by flat-topped hills with long, steep slopes, limestone rock outcrops and well-defined stream channels. The climate is typified by warm summers and moderately cold winters.   
  
More than 2 million guests visit Tuttle Creek Lake each year to enjoy the endless recreational opportunities provided by the vast lake and surrounding landscape.

Konza Prairie, Kansas State University, Fort Riley and the Prairie Parkway are all located a short drive from the campground.

Arrow Rock

## Overview

Bloomington West is a spacious group campground that sits under an umbrella of trees west of Clinton Dam and Lake in the hills of Kansas. 

## Recreation

A horseshoe pit, sand volleyball court, playground and softball field are all provided at the campground, making it the perfect spot for entertaining large groups and family functions.   
  
However, Clinton Lake is the main attraction, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, canoeing, jet skiing, swimming and countless other water sports.   
  
The lake's fish and wildlife resources provide sightseers, fishermen, and hunters ample opportunities for their sports, and Clinton Lake is well-stocked with crappie, walleye, channel catfish and white bass.   
  
Wildlife viewing is also a popular activity, with bald eagles, white-tailed deer, Canada geese, wild turkey and other wildlife in abundance at Clinton Lake.   
  
Three trail systems are located around Clinton Lake, including the North Shore, South Shore and the George Latham Trails. All offer hiking, biking and equestrian opportunities within a 20 minute drive.

## Facilities

This spacious group site offers 25 individual sites, four with 20/30 Amp electric and water connections. This area has a total capacity of 150 guests. A boat ramp is located within a mile of the site, and grills, flush toilets, showers and drinking water provide a comfortable camping experience. 

## Natural Features

Congress authorized Clinton Lake in 1962, and the finished reservoir was filled in 1980. While the Dam and Reservoir were originally built for flood control, the area has now become a recreational oasis for millions of visitors to enjoy the beautiful green Kansas backdrop.   
  
Clinton Lake's beautiful setting of steep bluffs, wooded shoreline and clear water is unequaled among Kansas lakes. Shoreline development has been limited in an effort to preserve as much of the natural setting as possible.   
  
Clinton spans 8 miles up the Wakarusa Valley and covers 7,000 surface acres. If the lake ever approaches the top of its flood pool, an additional 5,800 acres will be covered, extending the area to 13 miles along the valley floor.
