Very nice campground

Rock Cut St. Park is in the middle of an urban area, but you would not know it. The park is very large(the largest in northern Illinois) and has multiple campgrounds. I stayed in the Prairie View campground. Trees all around, plenty of shade. There is a central bathhouse with flush toilets and 3…

Quiet, low-key camping. Frequent camp host checks

White Tail camping is quiet, low-key, family friendly and good for a break from urban life.

Site 80 is fairly open & shade is hard to come by.

Had a good time. Next visit will be in a shady spot.

We will return.

Camp hosts and local police come by to keep an eye on things.

Not for #vanlife

Full hook ups and electric sites plus some restricted Equestrian and walk in sites
Not for #vanlife. I tried to pay for a tent site and was told “you’re not supposed to sleep in your car” “this campground is for RV’s only”

Quiet spacious camp ground

We are here on Memorial Day weekend and it is full, but still very quiet. The sites are well maintained including the fire pit areas. Water hookup is back from pad so as others have said, bring the longer water hose. Nearby Siegler Lake and Big Rock Creek in the Big Rock Forest Preserve are…

Great views on every trail

Starved Rock State Park and the surrounding area has some of the most beautiful views in north central Illinois. We’ve spent many days exploring trails for river views, bluffs and overlooks, even waterfalls! There is so much to see here! Whether you stay in a tent, cabin, or the resort, you’re…

Big park with lots of options for camping and recreation

Rock Cut St. Park is in the middle of an urban area, but you would not know it.  The park is very large and has multiple campgrounds.  I stayed in the Plum Grove campground.  Trees were not really leafed out and some sites would have shade later in the year.  Site along the edge of the campground…

Options for a weekend away

Had a great time last weekend at Rock Cut. The camp grounds and roads were well maintained, and the larger park as a whole was very clean and spacious. Toilet facilities are about the average for a state park, but hopefully you will spend most of your time outside of them enjoying nature. We…

One of my all time local faves

This place is awesome! The whole winnebago county system is wonderful, but the trails and views here, along with the quiet is my fave. Clean vault toilets, clean garbage bins, water ect. Electric sites available with dump stations.

Great prairie camp ground

This is our favorite local camp ground. The park has electric and water hook ups at all RV sites. Additionally the spots are paved and have nice fire ring area. The prairies are very relaxing to watch and hike through. Most importantly the dump sites, especially in the back of the park, are well…

Great Shakedown Trip

This was our first time to Rock Cut State Park and it was amazing. The park itself is quite large with really nice hiking trails. We took our new tent out for the 1st time and had a great site. The only negative is that the sites are very close so not a lot of room between them. We took a walk on…

Only scout/youth camp

This is a beautiful park! However if should not be listed here, without the caveat that is only for youth group camping. Contact winnebago county forest preserves for info. Otherwise, this is a great place for nature day trips!

Park is Great but the Campsite, well...

I was there this past November and again blessed with great weather this past weekend (April 16-18, 2021). I live the park, some of the canyons has waterfalls. The campsites in Loop 2 are close together and small. I booked two campsites but I had friends bail at the last minute but I still kept the…

One night test run

We live less than five minutes from Rock Cut and wanted to test out our pop up camper. It's off season so the showers were not open yet but there were open toilets. Wasn't too many other campers so it was nice and quiet. Hiking trail is right next to the campground which was nice. You can hear the…

Quiet Campground with Scenic Views of the Rock River

Very nice campground for weekend getaways. Less than two hours from western suburbans of Chicago. Just about a mile from Oregon where you can find a number of bars and restaurants. There are also walking trails within the campgrounds.

Perfect State Park

I spent most of 2020 here. Close to everything you’ll ever need while camping. Only negative are the same everywhere you bag go. Other campers not respecting the earth or other people. Love this place.
