Nāmakanipaio Campground is located 31.5 miles south of Hilo on Highway-11 at 4,000' elevation. It is a large, open grassy area with tall eucalyptus and 'ōhi'a trees. This campground has restrooms, water, picnic tables and barbecue pits. Campfires are permitted in the barbeque pits only. If there are more than 2 people in your party, you can expand to 4 people per site with another tent. Maximum stay is 7 days.

Rest your soul at the Pukihae Stream. This lovely oasis is tucked in the heart of Hilo. Come rest with us, meditate and take a dip in the swimming hole. Cook outside and enjoy the outdoor shower. 10 minutes from Downtown Hilo

If you are looking for a place in the soft mossy grass to pitch your tent(or ours, if you need), the Camp at HDGH is just the place! We have 2 Grass Sites available for those with their own tents. Sites include all the Camp Base amenities including kitchen and hot shower sharing with guests staying at our other sites at Howling Dog Guest House. The Camp at Howling Dog Guest House, sits at 1400 feet elevation with views of Hilo airport and the coastline. Enjoy comfortable temps in the 60s-80s year round. Wake to sunrise over the ocean and fall asleep gazing at a billion stars. The camp is a large grassy area surrounded by bamboo for privacy. Once parked you will walk past the shared camp base containing the camp kitchen with filtered potable water at the sink prep table, camp charcoal grill and table. Camp base also has solar electricity and is a great place to hangout on rainy days, charge your devices and enjoy playing bored games. Next to the kitchen canopy is the bamboo dressing room where you can enjoy a hot nature shower. Nearby we have provided a camp fireplace(within local fire laws) perfect for chilly nights and smores. We have fire logs available for a fee. Your campsite platform is a short 50 foot walk across the soft mossy lawn where you can play volleyball, cornhole, baseball pitch or other yard games; or just relax sunbathing and stargazing.
