Stone Mountain Park Campground

**Stone Mountain Park** is a reflection of the Atlanta, GA area. In other words you pay for everything you do , from entering the park to traveling to the top of the mountain. 

You pay upon entering for parking. If you are camping you still pay for parking when you arrive but get a voucher for the duration of your stay.

This campground has many rules so ensure you review them. Pets are allowed, alcohol is not. Guests are permitted but if they are not part of your original group you have to pay for them to stay overnight. You can not camp in your vehicle. You can not swim in the lake, there is a pool. And so on.

All that being said it is a nice, large campground. Depending on the loop your in you may have more privacy then in others. The sites are not necessarily level if you get in the “tiered” areas BUT you have more privacy. There are some excellent choices for picturesque views of the lake and Stone Mountain. Every camping combination you may need from no electric to full hookup.

Dogs are permitted on the trails around the mountain but not permitted on the trail to the top. I was not aware of this until we got there so we didn’t get to do a picture on top. We did enjoy the trails and lake.

The weather was perfect for camping, cool in the evening, great for campfire gatherings;) The Country Living Fair was on the event calendar so it was a little busy in the park.

Definitely a destination campground and so close to Atlanta you’ll probably want to visit there too.

Great family camping. Lots of cute and private camp sites. Easy in and out. Facilities were incredibly clean and comfortable to use. 

Stone Mountain State Park

This is a great, spacious campground and is very family friendly.  It is convenient to all that Stone Mountain has to offer with convenient tram bus service to many areas of Stone Mountain Park.

There are a variety of sites, from nice upgraded sites to others right on the water.  Many of the sites have plenty of shade.  The campground is excellently maintained and the staff is super friendly.

Convenient to Atlanta, great location

Very clean campground and close to lots of activities. Very close to water for kids to play in. 

Great family spot

Several options available. RV hook ups, camp grounds, and yurt rentals. I did not rent a yurt but have heard good things from friends who have. Very clean camp grounds, if you don't mind a familes close by. Can set up next to the lake. Pet friendly and several children and families around. Ton of activities around stone mountain park. 

Family orientated 

This was our first trip out of Florida with our family and camper. It was about a 6 hour drive from Tampa and we arrived just before dark. The campground was empty around us but the tracer trailer section was full of awesome rigs. Very quite and lots of trees. The mountain was a nice hike down and the snow slides were awesome as well. We will visit again. 

Nice mid winter stay

We signed up last minute at the night registration which was really convenient and easy, the maps were legible and easy to navigate so we found our spot very quickly. Campgrounds are different sizes and we got a smaller one with a spigot, outlet, picnic table and a grill. We did not have a fire pit. Bathrooms/showers are close and it’s a great park. Only thing is parking is a little expensive to get into the park and it can be quite crowded

Got all your basic amenities

We decided at the last minute to find a campsite for a challenge we're doing. The process is simple enough and cheap compared to some sites, though it would be great if online reservations were more streamlined, especially for late at night or after checkin hours. Though I do get why the process is so detailed. Overall a nice experience and simple enough for our needs.

Great on the spot! 

Awesome time! Our friends booked and they called us and told us there was a Lakefront cancellation so we immediately jumped on the opportunity! Great atmosphere. Warm neighbors. Gorgeous view. Couldn't ask for more!!!

Who Knew We Had A Hidden Treasure In Our Backyard!!!

This campground is convenient to the attractions offered at Stone Mountain. The campsites offer an incredible view of the mountain and the lake. There are campsites directly on the water as well. The campground offers a pool and a camp store on site. Staff are quick to remedy any issues they are made aware of. The only drawbacks are campsites are extremely close together, and the bath houses need some updating.

This is a great park with plenty for all ages. The sites easily handled our 38'fifth wheel. Bath houses were clean and everyone was super friendly. They have a golf course on site as well as restaurants, hiking, shows and more.

Nice campground for families

Stone Mountain park campground was wonderful! Pretty as well clean and the staff there are so helpful! They have activities such as bingo and ice cream socials. We will definitely be back!

Pretty and clean! 

beautiful campground, but if you tent camp, be aware that the tent pads are on a hill and vary greatly in size! so, if you have a bigger tent, scout out a bigger site. the bathroom and shower facilities were fine, functional and clean. the shower floor doesn’t drain super well, so if lots of folks are showering that day, the floor will be wet. the pool is very nice and so is the playground.

We have stayed at Stone Mountain Park campground three times now. We never run out of things to do. We bring our kayaks, and our kabota. You have the lake you can rent a kayak paddle board or a canoe, there is a golf course, stone mountain laser light show, trails to hike, an area for children to explore in adventure into, and much much more. The campground is great. We stay at lot 418\. You get a lot for your money here if you’re looking for a great place for your family, This is it.

More bang for your buck!

I cannot list all of the things to do at this park. We rode the ducks hiked to the top of Stone Mountain and enjoyed a laser display at the end of the evening just to name some of the highlights. There are mutiple stores shopping restaurants and just so much to do and see the kids will love it!

So much fun stuff to do

We had an amazing visit!! All the staff were extremely helpful and sweet. Shower house was clean, laser show fabulous and while hiking we saw a lot of beautiful wildlife!!!

Fun with the family

This is a nice spot for “glamping”. Very beautiful view of the lake and the spots are always kept up. Spots for tent, pop-up, and even RV camping.

Great beginners spot

This campground is inside Stone Mountain Park. Stone Mountain Park has many attractions you can do. Most attractions cost extra, but you get discounts when you are staying at the campground. The laser show is free and there is a convenient trolley that takes you to/from your campsite. The campground has a pool and activities like an Ice Cream social. There are spots right on the lake. We brought our kayaks and put in right from our site. The lake is very peaceful to kayak because motorized boats aren’t allowed. Our site was very shady which helps with the summer heat. The bathrooms were clean, but we used our RV mostly. The site was very spacious. We did the Ride the Ducks attraction which picked us up from the campground. The staff at the campground is very helpful and friendly.

Camping here isn’t private. The sites are very close together. The bathhouses were clean and the playground was nice. The lights during Christmas time and the tubing was worth our stay for our family. We also enjoyed the short hike to the top!

Great week.
The only downfall was that the trailer needed a lot of leveling. But it was totally worth it. Our site was on the lake. My husband and son enjoyed fishing and paddle boarding right behind our site. There was a lot to see and do at Stone Mountain.

Great!

This is one of my favorite places we’ve stayed! We were atStone Mountain over Memorial Day, they do an amazing fireworks show over the lake, which is great for kayaking (no motorboats allowed!!!) Great for bike riding too. Bathhouses are nice. We were in our pop-up, and had plenty of space. Highly recommend! 

So much to do!!!

With great views of Stone Mountain, close to hiking and activities, and right on the lake, this campground is very nice. It has plenty of amenities and a friendly staff. Where it falls short is at some of the sites. The fire ring and grill at our site (410, loop O) were not placed well; we never used them. Grill was right by the road, and the ring was too far forward. Both items would be better placed at the back of the site. It was quite a walk to get to the restroom. But, the shower and restroom were always clean. They have a laundry as well; very convenient overall. We enjoyed our stay and will certainly be back. 

Great place, very scenic..

Lived in Georgia my whole life and yet my first time to Stone Mountain was literally three years ago. Now we have an annual pass and go all the time. This place is world renowned for its fireworks and laser show but you have to go off the pavement to truly fall in love with Stone Mountain! This place is great for everyone. I mean everyone, from free runners to hikers and all you folk that like to “camp” in your RVs. Visit this place anytime of year and you will not be disappointed. Apparently it’s rated #1 as the best place to camp in Georgia. I’m more into the nature only kind of camping but that’s not everyone’s cup a tea. Stone Mountain has something for everyone.

So close to me and I love it.

There’s all kind of activities for the kids. They have free transportation within the park / campground area.  Helpful staff too.  The sites are close but they are not difficult to enter.  We were there last month and they were renovating and updating areas but this did not impede any traffic or fun.  Highly recommend especially for families.

Camped 3 days over Memorial Day.  Crowded but expected.  We stayed in green section.  Very shaded. Small to medium sites.  Have a 23 ft Grey Wolf and had no trouble managing parking.  Some 5th wheel and Class C had a harder time in this section.   The purple is considered the prime but I did not see paying the extra.  Yes it is by the pool and playground. But many sites have no trees for shade.   There is lots to do in Stone Mtn.  Good shuttle service so you don’t have to drive, park and walk.  Check website first to see what things you are interested in to determine price as most have a cost.  The laser show is free and a must do.  I am disappointed though as over the years they have cut back on the historical components but still enjoyable.

Nice for quick getaway 

This is an amazing State Park with plenty to do and much to explore. The campground provides many beautiful views and offers a ton of sights. Upon arrival the front gate/check in area was a bit congested but staff was friendly. The bathrooms were sufficient and clean. My biggest complaint about our particular site was the fact I felt like we were right on top of our neighbors. This campground is a bit too condensed for my liking. When I go camping I don’t want to be able to hear my neighbors every word. It was also a bit difficult maneuvering in and out of the sites as every site  seems to be right on top of the next. Loved the park and the views, did not love the lack of privacy in the campground.

Lots of things to do, we took the shuttle over to Stone mountain from the campground. Campsites are pretty close together but not bad.

Cleanest bathrooms!

This is a beautiful park. The views are wonderful, hiking is great.  This is our second trip and it was VERY crowded both times, maybe all the time. That takes its toll on the environment. There is lots of trash on all the trails. The camp sites are not ideal. We stayed in the blue loop this trip and picked a site that we thought would have a water view. It did but from the back side of the camper. The way the one way roads go all the views are from the wrong side. The site was not level at all and the pavement was all cracked making it hard to park. The bath houses are very clean but the shower that I used had no hot water. Overall we enjoyed the stay, obviously enough to make a second trip, but it will likely be the last. I think we prefer the less traveled places.

There's so much to do at Stone mountain from hiking, boating, glass blowing, festivals and the hike up and the views are stunning, lots of animal life and an amazing and helpful staff from the bottom to the top.The police/fire men are not only family but some of the best guys I've met in this state, always willing to help. As well as being Ancient Indian Land it is also near the beggining of the trail of tears. A very very special place! 

A spiritual area

We stayed at Stone Mountain Park Campground over Labor Day weekend. We were surprised by all of the things to do and see. We visited Stone Mountain Park to play putt putt, ride the train, visit the Dinosaur Exhibit and ride the Skyride. Our son loved it all! The 4D theatre was closed due to Covid-19. We visited the Rock Quarry and Grist Mill. The REI boathouse was also closed due to Covid-19 so you couldn’t rent paddle boards or kayaks. We saw plenty of people on the lake who had brought their own. There were great bicycle trails, we wish we would’ve had some to enjoy that aspect. We will be back, probably in the Winter for the events and tubing. 

The campsite was nice and shaded. The lake views and Stone Mountain View was stunning! We didn’t visit the bathhouses. It is tight getting your camper backed in, you may have a line of trucks &amp; campers behind you waiting while you unhook and move your truck. It was a little tense since we are still newbies to camping but everyone was nice, patient and understanding.

We love Stone Mountain 

This has been the most difficult to level site we have ever stayed at. We could not find an even surface to put our sons pack and play outside. 
That aside, this place has so much to do, great for biking and hiking. With beautiful views all around. We would come back but def to another site. Try to avoid site #172.

Leveling for pros. But great location 

The title says it all. The grounds are excellent. Plenty of spots. Water, electric, sewer, primitive sites, cabins, drive thru, back ins, lake front, golf, stone mountain itself, washer/dryers, store, etc. Wow! Will definitely be back. We parked with a 41’ motorhome by the lake for 2 nights and absolutely loved it. 

Absolutely one of the best

We camped here for 3 nights and will definitely be back.  We were in the red section because I thought it had more views and ambiance.
We were in a lakeside site and the mountain and the lake was simply beautiful.
The site was tight and a little scary to back in as we got there after dark. The drop off was steep at the back of the site. But we managed and was glad we picked it.
We did not use the bath house so can’t review those. We were there to visit our daughter in Decatur so we didn’t spend nearly enough time at the park. But next time we will!
The WiFi was okay but not great.
I’m sure it fills up in the summer as it is a great place to take your bikes or simply walk.

We go to camp here at least twice a year. Despite the crazy traffic in the capitol city, there are many restaurants with good food nearby.

We love it so much we got married there!

Great location, nicely laid out park, what an incredible focal point. The 30 amp breaker was broke luckily we got a 50 to 30 adapter, all good. We took just 20 steps from our camp to see the iconic rock. Campground was inside the city park, must pay an additional one time $20 for vehicle to enter park first the campground. One of the nicest city parks worth the $20! We

Awesome grounds in a family and pet friendly atmosphere.  Neighbors were kind and helpful.  Very quiet and peaceful time.  Walking the grounds was nice and hilly.  There’s also trails in between areas and around the campground.  If you like the water, bring your trunks, kayaks, and poles.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our was to Gatlinburg. We went up the mountain and then walked down. We did the rope challenge in the park and did the laser night show would highly recommend. I didn't not give it 5 stars because the pool and shuttle to mountain was closed during our stay. We had a great time with our oldest grandson.

We had a large site in a new loop (orange) with views of East Lake and the side of Stone Mountain. Roads are nice and wide, easy to get in and out of the back in sites. Full hook up with cable. Camp store has reasonable prices for fire wood and ice. 

Beautiful Park & Views

Well we stayed 5 days in the orange loop and that had better phone reception with less trees 🌳. That loop was more crowded and busier near the tents. The last 5 days we were in the lime green loop, which is near the laundry and it was much quieter, less traffic and more shaded. However less phone reception (TMobile) in this loop. Full hook up site with cable and has been re-done or refreshed like the new orange loop. I wish they would re-do all the camp sites like this.

Stayed in site #253. Ok campground. Sites are small and uneven. Premium price but not premium site. Our site was on loop with a lot of shade. Camp has mostly full hookups including cable. Pool at campground and store. Yurts, rental campers, premium tents are also available. Lots of activities in this park. Very touristy but that's what I expected. Stone Mountain can hike or take sky tram to top. Many other options to do especially for kids. The laser show is a must see!! Many trails in the park for hiking, biking, running, walking. We kayaked the lake. In July it's very hot. Within 45 minutes to Atlanta. Good campground to enjoy many activities. Will return in fall/winter to enjoy some hiking.

Stone mountain hiking & RV camping 

I went end of season so it was pretty quiet, and I got a lakeside spot. I was disappointed the shuttle wasn't running but hopefully they'll get that back up soon. The area is gorgeous. The campground was really clean, and I loved my extra big spot. Bathrooms were nearby and clean. The entire place also felt very secure.

Grew up coming here every weekend. So much to do. So many hidden gems. Lots of fun touristy stuff but also many things the tourist don't ever find. We rented a camper which is the way to go, has its own shower, bathroom, and is very nice. Campground is kinda crowded. Not much privacy, but honestly you don't spend much time at camp with all the things to do. 

Best Around

Picturesque site on hillside overlooking Stone Mountain Lake. Paved site is bumpy and challenging to level. Large park with many entertainment choices. 

Large, professional, active and busy

We had a wonderful spring break visit in March 2023.  We stayed in, according to the map, red#279.  Please go by camp site number when there though.  It was a little confusing when we arrived as the signs had changed.  It is a number range now.  The site needed the leaves removed but it didn't stop us.  We fit the site, it was a little snug but we loved it!!!  The view was fantastic and just what I was looking for!  I know they have been making some improvements and hope they get to the inner side of the circles soon. I would love to go back to this area again.  I would suggest an outside rug to keep from taking everything in.  It was amazing to have!!!  I would stay in this area again anytime!

We camped over the Labor Day weekend. The park was a little pricey but the lake is nice. There is a pool, 
a playground &amp;  a gathering area. There are a lot of sites as well as Yurts. On top of the $70 a night you must pay a $20 parking fee. The full use of the state park is $39.95 a day.

Beauty around the Rock

I love this campground. Sites are usually clean and staff are friendly. This is my second time camping here. I come for the Highland Games here. 
Sites are close so it would not benefit you if you want seclusion. Bathrooms are clean. And in October there are different activities for the kids. Fall fest and Halloween parade.
