Sitting on the shores of lovely Lake Burton, Moccasin Creek prides itself on being “where spring spends the summer.” Despite its mountain location, the park is relatively flat, offering easy navigation for large RVs, children’s bicycles and wheelchairs. A fully accessible fishing pier sits above a trout-filled creek open only to seniors 65 and older and children 11 and younger, as well as all ages with a Georgia disability fishing license.

At 2,800 acres, Lake Burton is a prime spot for skiing, boating and fishing. Kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and canoes can be rented during warmer months. Park visitors can tour an adjacent trout rearing station, hike on several nearby trails in the Blue Ridge Mountains or simply relax in this peaceful setting. The park’s central location makes it a perfect jumping off spot for exploring area waterfalls, mountain bike trails, shops and restaurants.

Moccasin Creek State Park Campground

Very nice park. All rangers are friendly and so are the other campers. No noise or parties too late so we slept great. Massive lake, we rented a pontoon and had an amazing time. Had special fishing areas for kids, places to clean fish. We even went to wildcat creek to the rockslide and had a great time, even with the cold water. They even have a mini ‘beach’ on part of the lake. Would definitely camp there again.

Extremely peaceful and enjoyable 

love how they campground is set up and that it is very family friendly. We take our son camping in a pop up and he loves it. easy to bike around and the fishing piers are very nice for all ages.

Me and my Buddy went up here for some Fishing and relaxation. Its a small campground but still well kept and has great views and fishing. Its right next to the trout hatchery and Lake Burton so you have great access to recreation on the water. Across the street from the campground are the hiking trails which had some nice wildlife and good for beginning hikers. 

Small but nice

This state park campground is close to a waterfall, fishing, geocaching, and some local attractions. The sites were big enough but close together. The lady in the office was very pleasant. We enjoyed watching boaters, and ducks, and playing horseshoes and frisbee. It was good to see kids outside playing basketball. Kayaks were available for rent. There was a lot of activity going on and plenty of smiling faces and happy noise.

Weekend adventure.

Campground was small but very clean and kept up well.  It was against a main road with traffic.  The creek is beautiful and you are right on lake Burton.  Campsites were close together.

Great Campground

Nice and clean with big camping spots. Right in the mountains with a trout hatchery right next to thecampground. Fills up fast especially in the fall.

Fisherman's dream

The campground hosts are awesome. As soon as campers leave they swoop in and clean it like it’s a hotel room. There are two bath houses. One is newer and much nicer. Sites are fairly close (not as close as KOA), but does not feel cramped. Great spot for fishermen and water sport. Right on Lake Burton.  Cool breezes and cool nights.  Great options for day trips to either visit small towns or hike trails. 


Great location to hiking and waterfalls. Upon check in we noticed fresh gravel laid down and is done so after each camper. Clean park and nice benches near the lake.

Hiking to waterfalls!

This is a nice flat shaded campground on Lake Burton. RV and tent sites are all together next to a fish hatchery which allows kids and elderly to fish for free. Canoe and kayak rentals are available. Across the street is a nice trail. The park is usually full but due to the size it does not feel overcrowded when you are there.

this campground is very kid friendly. they have a stream they stock with trout for kids 12 and under and seniors 65 and older. this park is a great place to allow kids to get into fishing and feel like they have accomplished something. the wildlife here is also beautiful and very abundant.

With Lake Burton on one side and a beautiful mountain on the other. If you want a relaxing weekend with very nice staff I highly recommend Moccasin Creek State park. Definitely will be back 

Absolutely beautiful 

Great place to take our 3 year old great-grandson. Grounds are kept spotless. Camped here several times and never had a complaint.

Love this campground 

Situated on Lake Burton, beside the trout hatchery, this small, yet busy campground offers fishermen a good supply of trout, and they are delicious! Moccasin Creek's staff is superior. The setting is peaceful. Hiking to Hemlock Falls is a must. Even in the hottest days of summertime, the trail is cool. The majority of the trail is right by the bubbling stream. The hike is a mile in, mile out, but can be a little tricky in spots, especially in wet weather. The Falls are well worth the trek.

Fisherman's Paradise

I felt the need to get away, so myself and two friends decided to do some tent camping! This park has great amenities: water, electricity, fire ring (with grill grate), bathrooms, and showers. All worked perfectly and the grounds and bathroom/showers were well taken care of. I selected an outside campsite (reserved online) that faced the water - we had plenty of room and a great view! It is located next to some hiking trails - a Wilderness Trail and Hemlock Trail. It is a truly gorgeous hike with a beautiful waterfall at the end. This park is located on Lake Burton and is not far from other hiking trails, state parks, and attractions. I highly recommend this park, and will definitely be returning in the future. 

Great Park

Moccasin Creek SP is located on Lake Burton in north Georgia.  This is primarily a fishing &amp; boating campground.
Although it’s in the mountains, the park is relatively flat along the lake, so large RVs fit easily, along with kid’s  bicycles, boat trailers, and wheelchairs. It was very crowded when we were there. Not a relaxing way to camp.
The fishing pier sits above a trout-filled creek open only to seniors 65 and older and children 11 and younger, and any Georgia residents with a disability fishing license.
There is a trout hatchery station, and trails for hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains 
Lake Burton is a big water skiing location as well.
Kayaks, paddleboards and canoes are available to rent.
The campground is small, with only 53 Tent &amp; RV Sites. And most people have extra trailers for boats which makes getting around a challenge sometimes.
There is a Boat Dock &amp; Ramp.  an ADA Fishing Pier, a fish cleaning station, laundry, showers, a Playground and a small store for basics.

Crowded

I stayed here for 2 nights of winter camping in December 2020. All sites have electric and water but we were tent camping and didn’t use either. We stayed in site 5 which is close to bathrooms but not too close. We had a beautiful view of the lake and our site was right next to the river. There’s a few small docks across the pathway that overlook the water so it felt like we had our own private dock to enjoy while camping out. 

  

Site 5 is a back in slot but it was my favorite camp site out of the entire park. Big enough for 2 tents and 2 cars. No campsite at this campground is very secluded but Site 5 didn’t feel as open as some of the others might have been.

  

The bathhouse was very clean and there’s a laundry room there for you to do laundry. Bring your kayaks and explore the lake using the docks close by. There’s a huge pavilion and playground for kids to enjoy as well as a nice grassy area for dogs. The camp hosts on site are very nice and there’s a nature trail and short little hike to a beautiful waterfall less than a mile away. I got 1-2 bars of service with Verizon LTE which was nice to be able to still check weather, etc.

Friendly Staff and Quiet Camping 

From the parking lot you cross the creek 200 yards pass Hemlock and go 3.2 miles to the Upper Hemlock Falls and at the top of the waterfall there’s about 3 o 4 camping spots.

Upper Hemlock Falls/Clarksville 

We camped here over the weekend. The campground is not very big, so the sites are not super private. Each spot has a firepit, lantern pol, and a picnic table and bench. We camped at site #50. It was pretty close to the road but we were not bothered by the traffic. The tents needed to be set up on the gravel. There were also electricity and water hookups on each site available. The campground has a cute little store and firewood for sale. The bathhouse was extremely clean and well maintained. All the staff and volunteers were super friendly and helpful. You also have access to the lake for fishing, boating and swimming. There are multiple hiking trails nearby. The town of Helen is just 30 min away if you like good German food. We would camp here again but would probably prefer the cooler months.

Nice camping spot

We went for a quick weekend away. The camp sites are too close for our liking. It feels like everyone is in your business here. I guess the positive for the proximity is access to bath houses. We just didn’t like how everyone can walk through your camp site.
