The Chickees found in the Everglades is a true experience. They offer a little "floating" oasis among a maze of mangroves. These small wooden structures provide a little solid ground in the sea of grass. Usually the chickees have protected-o-johns but the one at this particular chickee was removed for some time due to the challenges of reaching it to empty it. The tides were not in its favor.
If you are able to reserve one of these highly coveted spots I would certainly suggest it. There are two sides with roofs (chickee means thatched roof) that can accommodate several smaller tents or a large tent on each side. Just be considerate and share the space as you may not be the only folks there.
