Thousand Trails Peace River

Even though its a bit close to the highway, the park is well laid out and full level hookup sites. There is pleanty to do and see. From a stroll alone the Peace river to swimming or hot tubbing. There is an area towards the rear of the campground that host electric and water hookup with a dump station within 50 yards of the area, reason for this area not to have sewer is its prone to flooding during the rainy season. But if its in the winter, its level and far more quiet then the upper areas. All in all, a nice campground!

Loved the oak hammock camp grounds. Employees where supper nice and helpful. 

We came here as tent campers.  It was a last minute location switch.  It was almost exclusively RVs when we were there.  That’s usually not our thing but we were pleasantly surprised with our site, the friendly people and the river access.  We ended up enjoying a party at the pool and the bathrooms were nice.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The sites are beautiful, most are shaded. Laid back but close enough to many various activities (within 30 min drive). Love it. We will be back

Welcoming

The park is clean, it’s the midsized Thousand Trails Park in Florida. Peace River is really pretty, very green and has a wooded section, a tropical section, and a flood section. We have seen Class As sink, so if you have a heavy diesel pusher, make sure you find a spot safe for your RV. Make sure you have a Clam or some kind of outdoor shade with a big screen because there are a lot of mosquitos in the evenings. There are Alligators along the River banks and in the woods.

The park is really quiet and the town nearby is very small. They do have groceries and fuel. There are not many attractions within an hour to go to. There are some local museums and shops.

Cell reception: minimal, it is put in the country for Florida, And the neighboring town is small. So there is signal but bandwidth is low because of so many RVers not counting towards the population of the area.

This is a Thousand Trails property and there were some permanent spots, but this park does not have the typical built ins. There are several walking paths. The highlight of this park was collecting shark and sting ray teeth along the river. You can get wire mesh baskets in the office to aid in your search. 

Although we enjoyed our time here there were some serious concerns with flooding. Many large rigs were parked in the flood plane which encompasses a large section of the park.

There are some sewer available sites but there is a strange lottery system. Every day about 1pm you go sign up for the lottery system to shuffle your RV to a sewer site if you’re lucky enough to get it. They failed to tell us you have to show up daily. It was pretty frustrating. They offer (1) free pump out. Many will stay at this park for 3 weeks. If you have your own laundry machines - you won’t be able to use them. The laundry available on the property was pricey.

All in all we did enjoy our time here but we arrived prepared and it’s more camping than an RV Resort.


Decent RV Park

We had a spot by the river for a couple of weeks.  We got to know some of the regular gators, stumpy (three legs), one-eyed Jane, etc.  The birds are plentiful and fascinating. There is a wildlife refuge right around the corner for a quick and nearby day trip.  The Cracker Museum was closed, for awhile it looked like.  There are quite a few residential campers all clustered together close to the highway. They can have it. They have regular activities and a crazy mail system.  All the usual amenities.

Great wildlife viewing 

This park has beautiful views and nice large spaces.  First come, first serve on spots leaves little to be desired when you plan far enough out. Pickle ball and pool were very active.  Bathrooms were not placed in a very convenient spot, poorly maintained and they were small in comparison to the size of the park. Being a Thousand Trails facility it was very disappointing. 

Old park needs update 

Ok. I will try to sum this place up in as short of a review as I can. If I could give this place no stars I would. 

Pros: 

I don’t really have any Pros. 

Cons:

* Not all hookups are full. Must enter lottery to get full hookup site. Wasted 3 hours pulling into one spot. Have to sign up, enter lottery, look at spot, go back hope your name is called, if it is move again. 

* Laundry is broke! Numerous people who have been here for longer then a month have said they have been broke since November. 

* Swimming pool is like taking a warm bath with 60 other people. 

* They charge $5.00 per item to receive mail. Yes you read that right. If it’s an regular envelope it’s $5. Medication. Yep $5. Got three post cards from aunt Mable. $15. 

* Staff are the most ignorant I have come across on a 7 month road trip around the country. Ask a simple question about laundry room and the employee coped a huge attitude. The two maintenance men were awesome. But front office staff are HORRIBLE. 

*** IMO thousand trails maybe good for some people however they are the biggest waste of money I have seen. 

Words can’t describe 

This was our second camping trip as a couple and the first in our travel trailer. I don’t have much to compare it to so take this with a grain of salt. Upon check in you have first come first serve. Since we were not camping with others we were looking for a wooded area and ended up in C-56 which is the 4th to last spot before the water view spots. We were quite satisfied with our somewhat private site which was a quick walk to the walking trails and Peace River. We have a Thousand Trails 1 year pass with purchase of our trailer which saved us $50 per night. Many of the campers we spoke to were Thousand Trails members. We won’t be visiting campgrounds for the amenities as we use this time to get away and reduce typical socializing so I cannot comment on the condition of the pickle-ball courts or pool.

2nd camping trip ever, 1st in our travel trailer...

Camping next to the river with our adult kids and the grandkids, good bicycle paths walking trails, canoeing fishing and actually quite in the evenings on the eastern side of the grounds, everything is well maintained. Watch the electricity during high usage the voltage drop, ours droped to 108v for a couple hours, i choose to run the gen during that time other then that no problems at all great faculty. Clean bathroom and shower's. Wauchula's just a short run down the road for any of your needs. 

Great place with kids

This was our second Thousand Trails stay. Unlike The Oaks at Point South you have to find your own spot. It's a little unnerving. Fortunately, we had a few to choose from as soon as we arrived. There are a few paved roads but others are not. It had just rained a lot due to Hurricane Eta and there are huge potholes. So go slow!!!! We chose D14, back in. All of their sites are back in and they stress that over and over. FHU, no shade at our site, picnic table, fire ring with flip grill, grass pad. Fire rings are close to your neighbors camper b/c of mowing. Just move it. No cable or WiFi. Great Verizon. Pool was suppose to be open but they had to redo the pool deck. It was open the last day we were there and it's very nice. There is road noise, with air on not a problem. The back part of part is closed b/c of drainage issues. The site next to us the electricy didn't work which was great for us. Extra room! The sites are very spacious. In the winter when it's crowded they have a system of getting sites. Our water hookup didn't have a handle. Notified the office and it was fixed. You don't see staff out much at all. In a week, I saw 2 employees drive by.

The river hasn't crested. We still picked the highest site just on the off chance there might have been heavy rain up river None.

Great campground in the middle of nowhere.  This campground offers a lot for people that just want to get away and chill and enjoy what the park has to offer.   We where here for 2 weeks in January and the park is 80% full.   

We are here with our Thousand trails park membership.    When you arrive to the park you are told to go find a site you would like to be in and then go up to the office and let them know.  Because it is full on in season you are asked to find a site that is in the green section (map is in my photos) which are 30 amp non sewer sites.   If you would like a 50 amp sewer site, yellow section on the map, you will then go up to the office to get on the list for the lottery of the sites available and these will be called off at 2 pm.  The list for the sites that will be available on the board outside the office  The day we arrived I did get on the list and did get called but chose to stay where we are.  I really liked our site tucked under the trees on Ave A.    Then I scheduled the honey wagon to come twice during our 2 weeks here.   There's only two of us in our RV so this works out fine.  If you want to stay in a site that is non sewer and you need the honey wagon more then every 7 days there is a small cost for that.  psst  don't forget to tip the honey wagon guy   Many people have the black tank tote and use that while staying in the non sewer sites.

The park has a actives calendar and has stuff scheduled every day.  It was nice to see a lot of stuff scheduled for the kids.  

There is a great hiking trail that I ran many times while in the park and the peace river runs east of the park   There are many spots you can look for fossils in the river.  While I was here a kid really found a Megalodon tooth that was quite exciting   We did put our Kayaks in here at the boat launch  but due to the water being so low we didn't really get to go very far   We ended driving up to pains creek a few miles and did a float trip back to the park.  Then we just took our electric bikes back up to the drop off point to retrieve our jeep.  We really liked this park and are scheduled to be back for a couple weeks in Feb.
