Located within walking distance of the Atlantic Ocean, Delaware Seashore State Park’s two campgrounds are popular with campers seeking a beach experience. The campgrounds are located on the north and south side of the Indian River Inlet and are connected by a bridge with a separate walking and biking path. Campsites can accommodate a variety of camping units, from tents to large recreational vehicles. Most campsites have 30- and 50-amp electric, and water and sewer hook-ups. Bathhouses and laundry facilities are located in both campgrounds. A camp store on the south side carries convenience items and souvenirs. Amenities and services close to the campgrounds include two restaurants; a full-service marina with a bait and tackle shop, fish and seafood sales, and head boat service; bike and walking trails; and the Indian River Life-Saving Station and gift shop, a must-see. Severe weather may limit availability of some amenities.

Delaware Seashore State Park Campground

The campground was VERY clean, peaceful, and had offerings for just about any type of camping. The dogs enjoyed walking the park, but there is not much room for them to play here. Campsites are well maintained and you can’t beat the 3 minute walk to the ocean.

On the Waterfront

Right off route 1 between Dewey Beach and Bethany, campgrounds line the inlet (connects the Atlantic Ocean to the bay in land of Bethany).  Its a popular place to fish off the jetties and for public beach access. Because of this the surrounding bathroom facilities are well-kept. Lots of trailers stay here, but so do tents. The bridge across the inlet is beautiful and has a pedestrian path! 

Campgrounds along the water

This state park is quite large and offers a wide variety of amenities for both overnight guests and day use visitors. The park is quite large and right along the Delaware Route 1 corridor connecting multiple beaches. There are facilities on both sides of Route 1 and most of the park is well signed. The Indian River Bay is great for crabbing as long as the current is moving!

There are hundreds of campsites here, literally. Most have hookups and there are a view designated tent sites (although tents can camp at most sites). The facilities/amenities are quite nice but the campground is a parking lot. There's a ton of concrete and little to no shade, not pleasant in mid-summer unless you're camping in an RV running the AC.

Keeping with Delaware State Park regulations, day use visitors are required to pack out all trash but their are dumpsters available for overnight guests. Be advised that there is a two night minimum on weekends and some holidays.

While the staff are friendly and the facilities are nice, I probably won't camp here again in the summer.

**Ranger Review: Grand Trunk Hangout Hammock Stand**

We decided to purchase this to use camping but also in our own background (we don't have any trees at home). So Delaware Seashore State Park was a great place to give it a whirl given the lack of trees at the campground.

First off, this thing is built VERY WELL! It breaks down into 6 pieces and comes with a beefy carrying case. Although the strap on the case is a bit silly as it's too heavy to actually carry over the shoulder with the strap. It goes together and break downs super easy, it literally takes less than 5 minutes to assemble and disassemble. Once it's put together, use the "trunk straps" (included) slap your hammock to the attachment points and relax!

The stand weighs 32 pounds and is finished with a nice black finish. I was a little skeptical of how sturdy it would be once I was swinging in the hammock, but fear not...the stand doesn't budge! Even though it breaks down, it is still quite large when in pieces and might be challenging to transport if you drive a small vehicle with limited space. But if you're headed to a campground with limited to no trees be sure to bring this along!

This is one of favorite local parks! The location (in between Dewey/Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach/Ocean City, Maryland) is PERFECT. You have close access to miles and miles of touristy beaches and uninhabited beaches. From the campground you can walk less than a 1/4 of a mile to get to the beach.

Even though this park is run by The State of Delaware or a subsidiary agency the park is well maintained, the sites are level. All of the RV sites are full hook up and level. If you have a larger vehicle make sure you bring your “A” game when it comes to parking and pulling out as the interior roads are a little bit tight.

Even though they don’t have the staffing levels of a KOA…there was always someone “official” around who could answer questions or help out if needed.

If you are able…try to book a site on the newer side (sites 400-480)…the sites are WIDE and DEEP

Location, Location, Location

There are two sides to this campground, North of the Indian River Inlet and South. The North side is newer, smaller, and generally less crowded. Sites are also larger on the North Side. The park is well maintained, with water and sewer hookups. Clean, well maintained bath houses. Loads of activities and programs for adults and children, from free to a reasonable fee. There's walkover beach access on both sides, with restroom facilities available. You're not going to get any closer to the beach without actually camping on it. There is a small camp store on the South side, and a bait and tackle shop in the marina on the North. Nice playground facilities for kids on both sides. We love it here, and camp there a lot since we're local. There are nice lighted bike / walking paths over the bridge to get from one side to the other that offer great views. There's a wonderful nature trail at the back side of the marina called Burton's Island Nature Trail. Pets are welcome.

The drawbacks are these. There are no fire rings on campsites. Sites are not wooded, there is zero shade and it gets HOT in the high summer. Lots of fishing here. There will be fishermen on the beach, and also along the inlet wall at all hours. It gets windy here, especially during any sort of weather event. Sturdy tents can survive. We've seen people lose awnings and EZ-ups galore if they're not mindful of wind and weather. All in all, it's the most affordable way to vacation at the beach, and can be awesome if you're well prepared, but miserable if you're not.

Great State park campground with beach access, fishing, and great views.

This campground is situated tightly between route 1 and the bay but very low laying ground. This campground is perfect, but only with PERFECT weather. One medium rain/thunder storm will turn the tent camping area into a water covered mess! We were in 'spot 45' avoid this area if there's even the slightest chance of rain!

The amenities are great however, free hot showers, close to beach and bay and very friendly volunteer staff. 

Will not go tent camping here again and cannot recommend this camp ground for tenters!

Perfect?....not for tent camping!

Our first time here this summer and we fell in love with how close of a walk it is to the beach. Very clean site, and bathhouse facilities. Some sites may have a lot of rocks if your tent camping so come prepared for that under a tent. Luckily our site the first night did not have any rocks under it, it was grassy. It does get a little noisy at night because of the bridge, but it is beautiful when lit up at night. Kids loved the playground. There is no boardwalk, but Rehoboth is close as well as ocean city. Kind check in staff.

Beautiful park right across fron the beach. Took a group of 20 tent camping here and it went great! Have done it for multiple years now and every time it is a great experience. However, it does flood in the rain. Also this beach is not to packed and has great sunrises!

Groups

First, let me start by saying this campground is not what I usually like. I like trees, mountains, shade… this is a beach, plain and simple. That being said- we absolutely loved it and are already booked for next year! It was easy to find. Sites were very well marked. Friendly staff. Beautiful views. Ocean was a short 5 minute walk from our campsite- along with a playground and delicious restaurant (that even served vegan food!)! I didn't use the bathroom/bathhouse, but my husband said they were clean, well maintained and had excellent water pressure. Sites were a bit tight; I believe online it says they're 45x30 but I find that hard to believe. Our trailer is almost 38 feet and we only had a little room left over. Sites were level and paved along with some sand and grass. Also a picnic table- no fire rings at the sites, but there were a couple campfire areas scattered around the park. We spent most of our time at the beach anyway so the small site really didn't matter much. The campground is split into two sides of the river. The larger one that we stayed at had a life guarded beach. The beach on the other side had no lifeguard, but dogs were allowed on that beach and the water seemed a bit calmer and clearer over there. We stayed for 5 nights and every night was quiet except Friday- that's when our neighbors decided to get drunk and sing karaoke until 2am. People please, if alcohol tells you that you sound like Stevie Knicks, don't believe it. You don't. And no one wants to be woken up by your screeching. We complained the next morning (and from what I understand, several other people did too) and that night they came and spoke to them about quiet hours and we had no more problems after that. It's right next to a bridge- which is beautiful at night- but we didn't hear the traffic as much as I expected. Tent sites were closer to the bridge, though, so I'm not sure how noisy they were… Overall, it was a great location (only about 15 minutes from the Rehobeth Beach boardwalk) with excellent amenities. Highly recommended!

We're already booked for next year!

After reading the reviews about the water that can accumulate in the campground I was worried. Rain was scheduled for the morning so we were prepared to shift to sleeping in the car. I am so glad we came! Yes, it rained and yes, this campground gets wet, but it did drain as the afternoon wore on. The attendant also let us move to a recently vacated site that was less wet. The space was large enough for my car, our tent, a canopy and more. It was level. The bathrooms were clean and there were good showers with great water pressure. If you stay on the south side you have great views of the inlet and the bay and are a short walk to a really nice little beach that also has a shockingly good beach bar and restaurant. We drove about 15 minutes to another part of the state park on the bay to paddleboard and our campground pass was also a state park parking permit. Night time in August was bearable due to the lovely breezes. 

Worth it!

There are two areas of camping at the Delaware Seashore State Park. The north and south side which is divided by the Indian River Inlet. The south side has the guarded beach, concessions and a new restaurant called "The Big Chill Beach Club". The north side camping area has a marina, restaurant called "Hammerheads Dockside". The beach is unguarded and also allow your pups with you on the beach. My camping experience is from the North side only, we have never camped on the south side. The sites are level, spacious. 30 and 50 amp. Bathhouses are always clean. camp hosts and staff that we have encountered have always been profession and kind. Highly recommend however, if you plan on a "in season" visit you will need to make reservations far in advance.

Love this place, book two visits a year.

Okay, so in the past we’ve driven by this place and wondered who would camp in that parking lot?! We since bought an RV and thought, let’s try it out. We LOVED it! So it is a parking lot of campers but we didn’t sit around the camp. We had a site at the end of the loop facing the water so we couldn’t really see anyone else. It’s a short walk to the dog beach and a little longer walk to the guarded beach. We walked to the marina, a little store there had the nicest staff member. There was a small deli/seafood counter in marina shop and a restaurant on site where we ate dinner. The beach has a water front restaurant The Big Chill that we had drinks at while watching the surf. It was mid May so we weren’t swimming. The view of the lights up bridge over the inlet was spectacular! We stayed on the north side but if you want to walk to guarded beach easily, stay south side of inlet. There was a small store on that side. There is fishing allowed on the inlet and north side beach with DE permits. We drove a short distance to Bethany Beach, and Rehoboth and Fenwick are close too. We’ve already booked the same site for next year! Plan 9-12 months ahead if you want to stay here. It fills up fast. I reserved our site a month out but it had to have been a recently cancelled site because it was the only one available and it was the best site on the north side in my opinion. Same site was already booked for next year same weekend in May but I set up a notification and when it became available next May, I snatched it up!

My girlfriend, now my wife convinced me I would never go back to the Jersey shore ever again, she was right!!

Great place to camp I have been going almost every year since the first time I went. Very short walk from the beach, clean bathrooms, beautiful landscape, and a good price!

Beautiful

This is a beautiful marina. I think it is maintained by Delaware State Parks. There is plenty to do there like fishing charters, crabbing, fishing and bird watching. There is also parking for the public beach. There is a camp ground next to the marina too.
A great place to spend the day

Last minute I booked this place for a friend and me to stay for 2 nights to go to the beach. The beach is in walking distance of the camp site as well as fishing, surfing and other activities in the area.

It’s between Bethany Beach and Dewey Beach. We like going to Rehoboth Beach and that was only a 10min drive. 

I picked site #087. Right across from the Bathhouse w/ a fence and some high grass between the site &amp; Guardhouse. 

The sites are butted up right next to each other, but are fairly big. Many people had reserved sites together &amp; created a “base camp” which looked like the right way to go!

Both buildings were well lit at night, but didn’t really bother us because of high grass and leaving the front &amp; back windows open 1/3 of the way.

This is a very family friendly place &amp; everyone seemed to be in the “Active” community &amp; there with kids &amp; dogs. There is also night fishing in the inlet. 

With that being said, I would make sure to bring EARPLUGS and SHOWER SHOES! 

The only “complaints” we had were as follows:
1. By the end of the day the bathrooms/showers were a little gross. 
2. No open fires at your site for safety reasons (totally understand) &amp; there are communal places provided for open fires. 
3. Need to bring propane cooking devices if you want to cook at your site (we ate out every meal lol).

All in all we enjoyed staying here and most of the people were supper nice. Check-in and Check-out were supper easy and you could come and go as you pleased. 




I would stay here again

This campground is unlike most—few if any trees, no fires at individual sites, and not particularly secluded. But what it does do, it does really well—level sites, clean bathhouses, beach access, and even a beachside restaurant.

So so close to the beach

This campground is split into 2 sides . The south side offers tent camping , and the north side offers RV camping . We pitched tents on the south side but also drove to the north side to park and check out the beach view . As long as you have your parking pass for the campground you can park on either sides and explore or fish . The plus side to this place is the beach is very close and in walking distance . We found tons of pretty sea shells . The downside is there are no trees around any of the camping sites , so you have no shade what so ever ! There are no fire pits at any of the campsites so you can’t have fires at your site . We were a bit disappointed about that . There is a community campsite as you enter the campground that anyone is free to use . The sites are close together and exposed . The bridge over the inlet lights up pretty colors at night and is very beautiful! It’s fairly close to stores . We had to drive about 15 minutes to the closest grocery store . I did forget to mention you are right next to the highway so it can be a bit noisy at night . It’s definitely worth it to check this place out !

Weather was beautiful, ocean access easy, quiet campground.  Tip:  much more space on end site.  The busy road noise quieted down at night.

Really awesome site with full hookups right near town and a beautiful bridge. Clean facilities,  we highly recommend it if you're in the area. No problem fitting our 18ft RV and my inlaws join with their 30ft RV as well.

I stay at this campground everytime I come to the beach. It is nice, clean and the staff is friendly.  It's just a short walk to the beach if you don't want to drive.  I will be back in August and I can't wait.

My stay at Seashore State Park

The really great aspect of Delaware Seashore State Park is your close proximity to the water. The park is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian River, and Indian River Bay. The park has two separate campgrounds divided by the Indian River Inlet. We stayed at the southern campground but both are similar with regards to the hook-ups, sites, and proximity to the water. Both campgrounds are wide open with no shade. Pads are paved but patios and area between sites is sandy with a little bit of grass. If you don’t like sand, this is not the place for you. 

  

We were there in April so it wasn’t very crowded and temperatures were cool so we didn’t mind the lack of shade. Some campsites are open year-round and can accommodate various camping units from tents to 45’ RVs offering back-ins and pull thrus. Roads are fairly narrow and paved campsites barely fit big rigs as we had just a few feet to spare but were able to park the car in the sand/grass so it was not a problem. Most campsites have 30- and 50-amp electric, and water and sewer hook-ups. There are also no hook-up and tent sites. There are bathhouses with free showers scattered throughout the park and laundry facilities. Since we were there in the off-season only one bathhouse was open. There are no fire pits at your site but two community fire pits are located on the outskirts of the campground. Our over the air antenna picked up a dozen or so television channels and we had no problem getting cell or internet service with our Verizon phone. 

  

Full hook-up sites range from $30-$55/night depending on if you are a resident and what day of the week you are there. No hook-up sites are available from $25-$50/night and tent sites range from $20-$35/night. We inquired about a senior discount and received it after a phone call to them. The south campground is about a half mile from the ocean access where there are two full-service restaurants(which were both closed when we were there). The beach is wide and great for walking on and dogs are permitted during certain times of the year. If you like to fish this is a great place for surf fishing in the Atlantic and bank fishing in the Inlet River. If you have personal watercraft, there is access to the marsh and bay directly from the park. 

  

Near the north campground is a full-service marina with a bait and tackle shop, fish and seafood sales, and a short hiking trail. Just up the road is the Indian River Life Saving Station with a visitor center, museum and gift shop. Continue on up to the road and you will pass through the small town of Dewey Beach. Keep going another mile or so and you enter Rehoboth Beach where you will find everything you need(and don’t need). Rehoboth Beach is a typical beach town with everything from t-shirts to taffy and a mile-long boardwalk. If you are a beer lover there are plenty of breweries to choose from ranging from the smaller craft breweries like the Dewey Beer Company to the larger producer Dogfish Head..

But I loved being in walking distance to the beach. I saw numerous dolphins at the inlet

We stayed in a full hook up site, and we found the campground to be clean, well maintained and so close to the beach.  You can walk to the beach from the campground, and the beach has a restaurant, bar, showers, and a nice seating area/hammock seats.  The campground itself has no trees, and the sites are a little close together, but it is bearable for access to the beach.  There is room to sit outside, large picnic tables and enough private space.  We did not use the bathhouses, and my brother in law went to the camp store and reported it was basic, but it is a state park.  There is a really nice playground.  There are no fires permitted at the sites, but there is a communal fire pit (may be more than one - not sure).  We were at the South Park location.  It is very close to Rehobeth the town and surrounding areas.  

Delaware Seashore State Park is a beach friendly, clean & well maintained state park campground

Seems to be very popular, but the sites are just too close together for our tastes. Can be very difficult to pull out when leaving. No shade. Bathrooms were not particularly clean. There were dozens of black birds and seagulls flying around, sitting on and crapping on everyone's rig. No private camp fires allowed, they have designated areas with a pit already set up. A rather unremarkable campground. The only real plus is that the beach is within walking distance.

Too tight

Well actually accidentally made a reservation here instead of the camp site about 10 miles north of here near Lewes. But was happy I did, easy to get to and the bridge lights at night give it a fun ambiance. Bathrooms are nice with large showers, concrete slabs for parking. Walking distance to beach. It’s a little pricey ($51 per night after booking fees) but was great for one night.

Delaware Seashore SP

This was our 2nd trip to this campground. We were with 2 other couples. Two of us stayed north side in RVs and one couple stayed on south side in a tent. This trip had a lot of wind. It was almost hard to sit outside. The weather was sunny but cooler than we’d hoped. Our site faced the inlet and bridge which was beautiful but again with the wind  we couldn’t sit outside much. There are no trees, or very few, to block wind or sun. The other couple camped next to us and when we sat outside their RV, our RV blocked some of the wind. These two sites were spacious and gave us a lot of room to spread out and set up corn hole. No campfires are permitted at individual sites. The bathhouse was clean. We walked our dog to the dog beach area on the north side and down to the marina where there is a restaurant. The south side area has access to the beach for swimming and a restaurant with amazing views. Fishing is allowed with a license and you can fish right in the inlet across the campground road from the RV site. You can also fish at the north side dog beach. The campground was at full capacity and getting a reservation on the north side requires a year lead time if you want a site with a view and several months lead time for other sites. There is no last minute reserving at this campground.

Beach area camping

Our first time camping here was in 2019 and we loved it! The weather that time was perfect! Last year and this year, the weather was terrible. This year it rained and was cold. Fire pits are not allowed at your site and the wind is such that you can’t sit outside when it’s chilly. The campground itself is nice. Full hookups, walking distance or short drive to 2 restaurants, though neither is dog friendly, walk to beach and also a dog beach. If the weather cooperates and you love the beach, this might be for you! Otherwise, skip it and find something inland. Site 235 was and end site with views of the bridge, at least when the fog lifted there was a nice view. Close to Bethany Beach, Dewey Beach, Rehoboth Beach, Fenwick, Lewes, and Ocean City isn’t too far away. 



Fair weather friend

This is an absolutely excellent park at the Delaware Shore. We had beautiful walks down by the Indian River Inlet and through the park itself. 
Beach Access is so easy, my 80 year old grandmother who came camping with us made it over with no problem. 

The sites are a little close together, but it's not noticeable.  Everyone was so friendly including the staff that it was a pleasure to visit. When our dog got out of her harness on the beach, everyone jump
ed in to help out.

The park is extremely dog friendly, and I highly recommend bringing your furry friends along. 

Now we understand why this park is so hard to reserve. 

Amazing views and fantastic beach! A fisherman’s perfect campground right on the inlet. Full hook up sites, bathhouses and laundry on site as well. 

Dogs are allowed on the Northern inlet beach but not the Southern. Only drawback was high winds and a swampy smell. 

Beach!!!

Although this is not my favorite type of camping it may be yours. Easy level sights on asphalt parking lot.Nothing separates you from others and there is no room for privacy. The bathhouses in the front are slightly cleaner and the ones toward the back are used more frequently and all could use attention-cleaning. Bike paths are easy to access and well maintained outside of the park. Ocean City, Lewes etc are a short distance. 

Sand.Sun.Sea

We stayed here on our way down to South Carolina so we didn’t get to spend too much time exploring but we got a little taste of this beach-side campground.

It was located inland next to a bridge on the South side of the Indian River inlet. I understand there is a Northside of the campground too, on the other side of the inlet. We pulled in at night and didn’t have trouble finding our site, it’s very flat with no trees so you have good visibility. We had an electric hook up, picnic table, and there was a shared dump station on the grounds. The lot was sandy and level, easy to level. Unfortunately, there was a big rainstorm that night so some of the sites were flooded, tent campers were rained out.

The bath houses were okay, hard to keep clean especially after the rain we got, but they were also very smelly inside and out. The bridge was also stinky.  Pretty sure the smells were amplified by the hot, humid air, not sure if it’s like that all of the time.

The beach is super close! We went to take our dog for a walk and, though the tide was in, it was shallow enough for me to walk out a bit. It was dark so I can’t comment on cleanliness but we heard from locals it’s a nice beach.

We were very close to Dewey Beach and stopped at Nalu for a drink. I loved the tiki bar theme and everyone was so nice, we even made a few new friends.
